The meet
Martha awoke with a start. Slowly she climbed out of bed and tiptoed downstairs. It was raining heavily and she was alone. Again. She had started to feel the pain of not having anyone to hold but she'd had her heart broken so many times in the past. In the end, Matha was sure she didn't need anyone.
She drank water and settled down in the dining room. Her phone beeped. She picked it up and cleaned her face with the back of her palm. There was a single message from a man she didn't know. She'd recently joined a dating app and wasn't expecting a message.
She sighed and read the message again.
"Hi, am Harry. I like your profile. I'd like to know you."
Martha smiled, knowing he'd probably sent the message to dozens of other ladies. She clicked on his profile and was taken aback by his green eyes. He was handsome by all means. His curly hair was golden. It reminded Martha of coffee and summer. A warm feeling came over her and she touched her face.
She replied, "That sounds lovely, Harry. I'm Martha."
She didn't know if it was the right thing to do or if he would reply her. It was 2:00 am. Who was she kidding? This was new to her. She didn't want anyone. She reached over to delete the message but something stopped her. A new message.
"I didn't think you'd reply. I'm new to this but I feel like going in. What about you?"
Martha closed her eyes for a moment and thought about his green eyes and his slow smile. If she could have him, she'd be happy. She laughed and typed the next words with ease.
"I am a little bit nervous, you know."
She relaxed and waited.
