As a college guidance counselor and s*x education teacher, Chloe Bianca Festerson is an expert at managing other people's intimate dilemmas—and even better at hiding the secret affairs she carries out with her own students. For years, the stunning forty-one-year-old blonde has used her pristine professional reputation as a shield to satisfy a dangerous, unspoken addiction to lust and the intoxicating thrill of forbidden validation. Married to Alfred, a powerful forty-five-year-old business tycoon whose life is governed by strict corporate demands, her domestic life appears seamless, but the walls of her carefully constructed world are beginning to close in.

The fragile stability of the Festerson household shifts dramatically when Chloe’s nineteen-year-old son, Mildred, enters his freshman year at Haliburton Collegiate Institute. Mildred is an ambivert and a star varsity football player hiding an intense secret of his own: he is bisexual. Though he guards his identity fiercely from his demanding father and the hyper-masculine culture of the locker room, Chloe glimpses his hidden nature on their first morning commute when she notices him staring longingly at another young man on the street. Rather than confront him, she chooses to let him keep his armor, unaware of how quickly their separate secrets will intertwine.

The inevitable collision of the Festerson family’s double lives occurs when the clandestine boundaries Chloe established completely fracture.

Chapter 1: The Morning Armour
The air in my office was thick with the scent of chlorine and floor wax. I could hear my own breath, shallow and uneven, catching in my throat as the heavy oak door clicked shut behind me. Suddenly, a shadow loomed. Before I could process the sheer scale of him, Daniel stepped out from the recess of the office entrance. His hands—broad, warm, and entirely uninvited—slid with a terrifyingly fluid passion down my front, catching the edge of my silk blouse and pressing flat against my bosom. I gasped, my spine hitting the wall, but my hands didn't push him away. They hovered, fingers twitching against the fabric of his jacket. He leaned down, his lips brushing against mine in an abrupt, bruising kiss that tasted of mint and raw, youthful adrenaline. When he finally pulled back just an inch, his dark eyes were wild, staring down at me with a mixture of reverence and sheer conquest. "The boss lady is at her knees," Daniel whispered, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that sent a thrill straight down my spine. "I can't believe my eyes. Look at you." My heart hammered against his palm. Every professional instinct I possessed screamed at me to slap him, to ruin him, to stop him. But beneath the terror was a dark, liquid heat. I liked being pampered. I liked the worship. And God help me, I liked the look in his eyes. (FEW WEEKS EARLIER) At the Festerson's House; The mirror did not lie, even if my life did. At forty-one, I was fully aware of what I possessed. I stood at five feet, four inches, a deliberate, thick silhouette that commanded attention without requiring a word. My hair, a heavy, pristine sheet of spun gold, fell in waves all the way down past the small of my back, nearly brushing the swell of my seat. It was a chore to maintain—requiring hours of brushing, masking, and meticulous care—but it was my crown, a visual anchor that ensured no one could ever look past me. This morning, I chose a dress that felt less like clothing and more like a provocation: a deep crimson ribbed knit that clung to every curve, the neckline dipping low enough to display the full, heavy slope of my chest. The material was soft but tight, mapping out the fullness of my hips and the narrow indentation of my waist with unapologetic precision. It was entirely inappropriate for a senior faculty member at Haliburton Collegiate Institute, which was exactly why I wore it. There was an intoxicating thrill in knowing exactly what kind of chaos lay beneath a veneer of absolute professionalism. To compensate for the blatant sensuality of the dress, I threw on my armour: a sweeping, structured charcoal wool trench overcoat that buttoned high at the throat, completely burying the spectacular display beneath a wall of respectability. I adjusted the heavy fabric, ensuring the double-breasted buttons were securely fastened right up to my chin. When I looked back at my reflection, the transformation was complete. I went from an explicit siren to the picture of academic authority. The heavy wool hung beautifully, masking the soft, dramatic lines of my body behind rigid, tailored lines. "Mom, are you serious with that?" I turned from the mirror to see Mildred standing in the doorway of the kitchen, his leather duffel bag slung over one broad shoulder. At nineteen, he was already taking after his father’s side in terms of build—six feet of lean, functional muscle cultivated on the varsity football field. He filled the doorway, his broad shoulders casting a long shadow across the hardwood floor. Yet, despite his imposing athletic stature, his eyes were entirely mine: analytical, quiet, and hiding a labyrinth of secrets. "Good morning to you too, sweetheart," I said, offering a smooth, practiced smile as I picked up my car keys from the granite island. "And what exactly is wrong with my outfit?" "Nothing," Mildred said, shaking his head as he reached for an apple from the ceramic bowl on the counter. He took a slow bite, his eyes scanning the monolithic expanse of my charcoal coat. "You look like a movie villain. Why do you always wear those massive coats when it's beautiful outside? It's literally Twenty-nine degrees and sunny." "I am forty-one, Mildred. I am still in my prime, and I want to look the best I can while I still have the canvas for it," I replied, adjusting the collar of the coat so not a hint of the crimson dress showed through. I walked over to him, patting his cheek affectionately, though my fingers lingered just long enough to note the tension in his jaw. "I'm not getting any younger. A woman needs her mysteries." Mildred just shook his head, a wry smile touching his lips. "Whatever you say, Mom. Just don't embarrass me on my first day. The guys on the team are already weird enough about having the head guidance counselor as a mom." "They'll survive," I murmured, leading the way out to the sedan. As we walked down the concrete driveway, the morning sun caught the edges of my hair, turning the blonde strands into a brilliant halo against the dark wool of my coat. I kept my stride deliberate and even, but my eyes remained sharply attuned to my son. I noticed the subtle, almost mechanical way Mildred checked his phone. His thumbs flew across the screen with a frantic, practiced speed before he quickly locked the device and slid it deep into his pocket the moment he realized I was looking back. A quiet amusement settled in my chest. We both had our curtains drawn tight. It was a family trait. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of cut grass and distant asphalt. I unlocked the sedan with a sharp beep of the key fob, the sound echoing through our quiet, affluent neighborhood. This was our routine, the fragile peace we manufactured before stepping out into the world. Alfred, my husband, was away on yet another of his endless, high-stakes corporate business trips, leaving the massive house quiet and hollow. In his absence, the air between Mildred and me always felt thicker, charged with the unsaid things we both worked so hard to conceal. I opened the driver's side door and slid inside, the leather seats cool against the back of my legs even through the heavy trench coat. Mildred settled heavily into the passenger side, his large frame making the interior of the sedan feel suddenly cramped. He placed his duffel bag between his feet, staring intently out the windshield as if the dashboard held the answers to whatever thoughts were plaguing him. "Did you double-check your schedule for the faculty introductions?" Mildred asked, his voice dropping into that lower, gravelly register he used when he was trying to sound completely unbothered. "Of course I did," I said, twisting the key in the ignition. The engine hummed to life, a smooth, expensive purr. "I am the head of your entire set's student guidance division, Mildred. Not to mention my responsibilities with the s*x education curriculum and coaching the varsity swim team. I practically built the orientation schedule." Mildred shifted in his seat, turning his head to look out the side window as I backed the car out of the driveway. "Right. I forgot. The multi-talented Mrs. Festerson." There was a faint edge to his words, a subtle resistance that most parents would have misread as typical teenage rebellion. But I wasn't most parents. I was a student of human nature, a woman whose entire career—and private obsession—revolved around the hidden impulses of the human mind and body. I knew the signs of a man suffocating under the weight of his own secrets. As I shifted the car into drive and steered us toward the main road leading to the Haliburton campus, I let my gaze linger on his profile. His strong, chiseled jawline was set tight, a muscle jumping in his cheek. He was a premier athlete, an American football star who commanded the field with brutal physical dominance, yet inside this car, he looked entirely defensive. "Are you nervous about the first day of college classes, or is it the football team's expectations?" I asked softly, keeping my tone strictly maternal, carefully hiding the analytical edge that defined my professional life. "Neither," he muttered, still refusing to look at me. "Just want to get the orientation speeches over with. Sitting in the auditorium for three hours listening to the Vice Chancellor drone on isn't exactly my idea of a good time." "It's a rite of passage, sweetheart," I said, turning the steering wheel smoothly as we merged onto the boulevard. "And you might find that campus life offers far more interesting distractions than you anticipated." I watched him out of the corner of my eye. At the mention of 'distractions,' his fingers twitched against his knee, a micro-expression of pure vulnerability. He didn't answer, choosing instead to stare out at the passing trees, his secret kept safely behind a wall of silence. I smiled to myself, pressing my foot lightly onto the accelerator. The drive was short, but the distance between our hidden worlds was vast. Beneath my heavy charcoal coat, the crimson knit dress pressed firmly against my skin, a constant, warm reminder of my own buried appetites. I was a woman addicted to the quiet power of lust, to the exquisite tension of secrets, and as I looked at my son, I realized the apple hadn't fallen far from the tree. We were both walking into Haliburton Collegiate Institute wearing our finest suits of armour, completely unprepared for the ways our secrets were about to collide.
