~ Chapter 1 ~
15 Years Ago “Five boys and five girls. That’s our goal. We will leave here with nothing less. Does everyone understand?” Alpha Davis explained to the raiding party in the clearing. He goes over the plan one last time. “You’ve all been divided into three teams, each tasked with a different roll. Team one will be with me. Our objective is offence and diversion. Cause as big of a commotion as possible to draw out their warriors and keep them busy. Team two is with Beta Black. Your objective is to infiltrate the pack house and get the children from the nursery and safely away to the escape vehicles. Team three is with Gamma Curtis. Your objective is to clear the path for Team two to get to the escape vehicles and make sure they all get into them and away. Do not under any circumstances wait for Team one before you leave. Get the children and get out. Team one will escape into the woods on foot once you are away to keep their warriors busy. Any questions?” Everyone nodded in agreement, knowing their rolls. They had done this once before already and have learned from their mistakes. This time, their plan was better. This time, they had more warriors with them. Everything had been planned and the gaps filled. Maps of the terrain and the pack house had been memorized. The plan had been drilled into every one of them until they knew it cold. Last time they only got six of the planned ten children from pack lands. That was three years ago. This time, they would get the planned ten. Their mistakes from three years ago had caused a shift in security to begin from other packs to keep all of their pups in one location rather than spread out with their families. The change made planning this raid easier for the Ice Moon pack. “Ok, Team one with me, Team two with Black and Team three with Curtis. Get into position and stay silent. We move at midnight. Wait for my signal.” Alpha Davis commanded. Silently, the raiding party split into their teams and made their way to their positions. This time, the raiding party was a lot larger than last time. Everything had to go right. The survival of their pack depended on it. They waited in the woods until midnight completely hidden in the shadows, watching as the Moon Stone packhouse and surrounding area became quiet as they all went to bed. Only their patrol guards were out. Their borders were mostly left unprotected as the guards stayed close to the house unaware of the waiting threat just beyond the tree line. Having their packhouse built so close to the edge of their territory was not smart on the Moon Stone pack’s part but it was going to work well in Ice Moon’s favour. When the moon hit its peak at midnight, Alpha Davis let out a growl and led the charge of team one warriors past the boundary line, alerting the guards. They were drawn into the woods and separated from each other as the fighting started immediately and created the anticipated noise to cover the team heading into the pack house. Beta Black and team two waited until all the guards were fighting before crossing the boundary line on the opposite side of the pack house. Their security point man stealthily crossed the lawn to the side of the house avoiding the cameras and made quick work of disabling the alarm system and cameras from the access panel before the rest of team two could gain access through the front door. Once inside, they were met by a startled Omega who was leaving the kitchen. She was dealt with quickly by a blow to the back of her head. She would survive but would be out cold for several hours. Beta Black’s team moved quickly to the nursery to get the children once the threat was taken care of. Once inside he selected the five boys and five girls they would be taking and handed them to the waiting warriors who would be carrying them. They were all equipped with chloroform in case any of the children started to wake up and make noise. One by one they were taken from the pack house and across the lawn and into the cover of the forest. Once they were moving, they had instructions to not stop for anything until they made it to the waiting vehicles and get away. Gamma Curtis and team three were ready and waiting as they could hear team two coming toward them. The doors to the SUV’s were open, engines running. They made quick work of securing the children in the vehicles before climbing in and driving away. Once safely out of the pack territory, Beta Black let out a loud howl to let Alpha Davis know they had made it out. As planned the driver’s split up, each taking a different route away from the Moon Stone pack to make it more difficult for them to be tracked. They would all meet at a designated location more than one hundred miles away. Alpha Davis’ head snapped up when he heard Beta Black howl. It was just enough time for the warrior he was fighting with to get his mouth around his neck and squeeze. He could hear the bones as they began to snap. Another wolf slammed into the side of the warrior causing him to release the Alpha’s neck. He hit a tree breaking his back before the wolf tore out his throat. The rest of the Ice moon pack warriors came to the Alpha’s side and flanked him as they all left the Moon Stone territory together. The next phase of their plan was to leave in the opposite direction as the SUV’s so that any remaining warriors would follow them. At least at first. Alpha Davis and team one ran through the woods with the Moon Stone warriors close behind. They ran in a weaving pattern always going around towns for over fifty miles before they reached their waiting get away vehicles at the edge of the mall parking lot near the closest city. They selected this spot because the mall was beside a forest which gave them the necessary cover to shift and change into their clothes. The warriors from the Moon Stone pack had stopped their pursuit several miles back and made a quick turn back toward their territory. No doubt, the alarms had been raised, drawing them back. The Ice Moon warriors all phased and got into the vehicles as quickly as possible. Once inside, Alpha Davis did a roll call through the pack link. Luckily, this time, everyone had made it out alive from their pack. He confirmed with Beta Black through their private link that they had taken the planned ten children and that all the warriors from teams two and three were accounted for. They were all on route to the rendezvous location. It was hours before Alpha Davis and his team made it to the small backwoods campground they were meeting at. It was owned and operated by humans which meant they were less likely to be found by the Moon Stone pack there. Six of their warriors were put on guard duty around the group site they were staying on. Another warrior was posted as a sentry near the main entrance. It remained quiet all night. The next morning, the children were loaded back into the SUV’s again and taken to the small airport nearby where a private chartered plane was waiting for them. Alpha Davis and Gamma Curtis boarded the plane with the children and five warriors for the flight back to their pack lands. The rest of the warriors would make the trip back taking different routes and dropping off the vehicles at different rental locations along the way. Their own vehicles were parked in nearby lots with false plates. They were to arrive home at staggered times over the next nine days. Luna Cassia was waiting at the airport with the Beta and Gamma females, Alannah and Mia. They helped to get the children off the plane and into pack vehicles for the short drive back to the pack hospital. Dr. Ruben had rooms ready for the children in a secured wing at the hospital where they would spend the first few days being observed and checked for any health problems. During this time, they would run some tests to figure out the approximate age of each child and assign them a birthday. Once this was completed, the children would be placed with the pack families who had been selected to adopt from this raid. Alpha Davis spent most of his time over the next couple weeks in his office as their warriors returned home. The last vehicle carrying Beta Black and their three top warriors was now five days past their scheduled return date and no one had heard from them. They were not answering their phones and were absent from all social media. The GPS tracker in their SUV was not sending a signal. The signal stopped transmitting a few hours after they dropped off their rental and picked up their own vehicle. Alannah could tell that her mate was still alive as their bond was still intact. However, she could not communicate with him through it. It was the same for the other mates of the missing warriors. They were all worried and the longer time went on, the more agitated they were becoming. Alpha Davis was trying to keep them as busy as possible and would not allow them off pack lands for their own safety. The werewolf community was on high alert. Searching everywhere for the ten missing children. All they could do was hope that their warriors were not caught up in it somewhere on their way home. Their pack was very well hidden in the woods, away from human eyes after what happened at their last territory. No outsiders were allowed on their territory, human or werewolf. Alpha Davis knew that his warriors would not return if they knew they were being followed or had a member of the werewolf council with them. Not even they knew the new location for the pack, which went against werewolf laws. As far as the council knew, their pack had died out after they were almost wiped out by the humans in the town near their old territory. All they could do right now was wait. Another ten days passed before Beta Black was able to contact Alannah through their bond. All he could say was that he and the other three warriors were alive and would be home as soon as they could, but could not give a timeline for their return, before their bond became silent once more. It was another two weeks before Beta Black and the remaining warriors returned on foot. They were very battered and covered in bruises from whatever had happened to them on their way home. Their werewolf healing was not working as quickly due to how drained they were physically. Their clothing was all dirty and ripped to shreds. What was still hanging from their bodies was covered in blood. Alpha Davis called a meeting for the raiding party once they had all returned. During the meeting he learned that Beta Black and the warriors with him were caught up with by the Moon Stone warriors, so they had to turn in the opposite direction. They ended up on a dead-end road that ended at a cliff above a river. Not wanting to be caught and interrogated, Beta Black drove the SUV over the edge of the cliff, and they crashed into the raging river below. That is how they were injured. They all managed to make it to shore after a lot of struggling. They set their broken bones as best as they could and allowed them to heal for one full day before beginning the long journey home on foot. They were lucky that the Moon Stone pack warriors did not pursue them further after they drove over the cliff. Most likely assuming they were dead from the impact and swallowed up by the rapids below. After the meeting was over, Alpha Davis ordered Beta Black and his warriors to go to the pack hospital to have their injuries tended to. All of them had to have at least one bone re-broken and set. Dr. Ruben kept them all at the hospital for a week while their bodies healed and would not allow them to resume training for another three weeks. Every single one of them all said they would do it again to have their new children safely at home. It was worth it.
