Lilly continues to walk deeper into the forest. She walks with a sense of urgency, deciding not to run in case she trips over the uneven ground.
Each stride taking her deeper into the forest. The dappled light coming through the trees gets less the further she goes.
The temperature cools, and she inhales the cool forest air trying to ease the burn in her dry throat.
“What’s a girl got to do for a drink around here?!” she mutters.
What feels like several hours passes, and she starts to falter. The hunger and first are becoming unbearable, each swallow becoming increasingly more difficult. Yet she trudges on, fearing her captors could appear at any minute.
By now she is deep into the forest. The trees are so close together fighting for a spot that it is difficult to walk. Clambering over roots, and squeezing between the trunks the visibility is becoming poor. She is now walking in a dark forest, the dense trees letting very little light through. She walks slowly, negotiating her way through the hectic undergrowth. Suddenly the hairs on the back of her neck raise, and a shiver runs up her spine.
Peering around there is nobody there, but out of the corner of her eye she sees the shadows move.
Her heartbeat begins to quicken, yet she doesn’t falter.
She continues to fight her way through, her fast breathing and racing heart drumming in her ears.
Feeling a sense of being watched, yet nobody appeared.
“f**k, I must be losing my mind” she uttered.
The sound of a twig breaking to her left caused her to snap her head round. Squinting her eyes she peered into the dim light.
‘Was that movement, or my imagination?’ she pondered.
Oblivious to the ground in front of her suddenly ending. Her left foot catches in a tree root, and she falls forwards.
Expecting to hit the ground she squeaks when she continues to fall; down and down into the darkness for what felt like eternity.
With a sudden jolt everything abruptly stopped moving.
Squeezing her eyes shut for the impact, she is stunned when it doesn’t come.
Slowly opening her eyes, she draws in a sharp breath startled to find a pair of familiar golden eyes peering intently into hers.
