A person with long reddish blonde hair sitting on the sofa the sound of Irish men saying some kind of prayer greets him. The red Head jumps up the moment the door closes. For a moment when he looks into the red head's blue eyes, he is reminded of his late wife. The red head's face is filled with terror as the man enters the room. "What the hell are you doing Danielle ?" The tall man asked. "Watching TV," Danford said. "Why are the guns out? Why aren't they cleaned?" Danford's father. " I was going to I swear," Danford said. "What the hell do you do all day? No wonder Dekan stays out at that office for hours. What kind of man wants to come home to un-oiled guns, late dinner, and unkept wife? Why haven't you done something to your hair, Danielle? " "Dad I..." His father grabs his long hair and yanks it. "It's daddy, not dad. Only boys call their father dad. It's not an abnormal one, well not for him anyway. Sometimes Dekan blames it on himself he was old enough why did he do it? Why didn't he leave well enough alone? Danny could have been happy if he had. Dekan couldn't help it, his mind thought back on what happened 16 years ago. When they were in the strongmen hunter's hospital because his mother's baby wasn't what the family expected. His parents drove fast to the hospital. Tim made Dekan the spokesperson for the family's concern. When Dekan didn't speak fast enough, his father looked at him and said: "well Dekan speak to the doctor." His mother spoke to him like only a mother can at times like this one. " What are you thinking honey?" Dekan looked straight at the doctor and said: "I thought you said I had a brother, but it looks more like I have a sister." The doctor examined the infant, bewildered at the family's anger and confusion. " But he has the whole package." the doctor said in a confused tone that made Dekan look at him roll his eyes and speak in a sarcastic tone wait you mean he has a... No way. Dekan looked in the baby's diaper and said well he's a boy." " Still I say we leave him behind." his father said looking at Dekan. "No way." his mother said. "Why not?" his father said folding his arms staring intently at the baby before looking back to his wife. " Because he's my baby and I love him. Besides, the neighbors know I'm pregnant. It will be too many questions if I come home without the baby no." his mother said. "The neighbors who gives a f**k about the neighbors?" his father said, "It's how you look." His mother said. "Well aren't you getting comfortable. You remember we will be moving on from there soon." His father said, we can't travel too much with the baby." His mother said. " We are leaving it behind. "His father said " I said no." " I have spoken," his father had said, and his mother had shut up. Dekan knew that would be the end of it. He'd never see him again and somehow that seemed well, it seemed... "Unacceptable. He's my brother, and he's coming back home with us." "Dekan listen...." His father started. " No you listen, you claim to love me, but you'd throw me away at the slightest imperfection," Dekan said interrupting his father. "No not you never you Dekan," his mother said hugging him. " Well then prove it let me have him," Dekan said to her looking at the baby. " Alright, Dekan he stays honey just for you right Tim?" she said. His father grunted, but Dekan knew that meant ok with me. When Dekan smiled at the baby, he knew the baby knew he was safe. "I do anything for you, Danny. "I will protect you always" he promised. Six months later Dekan had come home from school to hear the fighting and the baby crying. The fighting, if you can call it that, was one-sided. When his father heard him come in he stopped and said "shut your f*****g crying Dekan's home. Go get him a snack." Dekan watched the blood drip from his mother's mouth as she went to the kitchen. "Hey, baby how was school?" "Mom why are you bleeding?" "Your father needed a sparring partner." she said grabbing him a pack of his favorite cookies and crumbling a few into a homemade pie before she sat it in front of him with a glass of milk. "Dekan, eat your snack. The assassins and some hunters are coming over today and bringing their kids, I want you over there practicing with them." Dekan's father said, "yes, sir, but why are the hunters coming here? Are you are hosting the opening hunter games, dad?" Dekan said. " That's right, son, so you keep those boys practicing and keep Danielle with you as a favor to me." His father said. " Can I take him now?" His mother looked up and said, "where?" " I told Cody I had a baby brother he doesn't believe me, I want the fucker to eat his words. I'll take good care of him." "Be back by five they will be here and remember don't get too attached to Cody we leave here as soon as we can." His father said. "Yes, sir." " Dekan, the baby bag is by the door as usual." His mother said. "Mom I know." " That's right you do, after all you put it there. Be careful and don't let Cody touch all over him especially if he doesn't wash his hands." " I won't let anything happen to Danny mom I promise." " I know you're a good brother he owes you a lot we both do." "Danny doesn't owe me anything I'm his big brother it's what we do." "Yes mam" Dekan had grabbed the baby and went to Cody's house and was stopped by Cody's mother "whose baby is that Dekan?" Cody's mother asked him. " My baby brother mam. I wanted to show Cody." " How old?" "He's six months." "What's his name?" "Danford Danielle wolf mam, but I call him Danny." " Danny. I see is your mother waiting close by?" "No mam. My mother is not here she's at home getting ready to host a party." "Your mother is hosting a party, and you are with a baby?" " Yes, mam." " Mind if I call your mother to check that story?" Dekan looked around and sighed, it's always messy in here, he thought. The clothes on the floor. A half-eaten pizza on the bed. Cody what the hell you wouldn't survive in my house.
