I squeezed my fists, pushed thoughts of being cursed out of my mind, and refused to admit I was weak. It's been so long since I buried all of my feelings deep inside resulting in Kai Parker, a renowned vulture in the corporate world and heartless in any girl’s world.
I engulfed myself in my work and while I was in the middle of speaking with one of my clients in Argentina I began hearing shouting. I knew who it was, so I made excuses and hung up the phone. The door to my office swung open wide and my eyes met Rita's golden eyes as she struggled to come out, but Rita had strong control over her wolf. I could have ripped her wolf limb by limb and thrown her out of my office easily; however, then there would be no coming back, but then there would be an investigation and other hassles to deal with. One thing I've learned from Earth's supernaturals is to hide as much from humans as possible. I pressed the hidden button under my table which I had specifically installed to call Alex. I stood up and tried to stall Rita until Alex arrived, “Come on, you are better than this.”
Rita snorted. “You have no right to discard me like that.”
I am not discarding you, silly wolf girl, I am saving your life.
I raised my hands like I had no intention to do any harm. “Rita, you need to understand that we were f**k partners and that's it, I have been crystal clear since the day we met.”
Once again she was trying to circle her arms around my neck and it boiled my blood. I held them and let her talk, “But I thought you started liking me?”
I nodded, “That’s exactly the reason we should be apart. I don't like you, I only like to f**k you.”
Rita's advances were making me freak out, and I was about to lose my s**t. Alex barged into my office after what felt like a lifetime. He charged over to Rita; Alex was a powerful former deadly MMA fighter, though human, who understands how to dominate a strong opponent. Alex grabbed her and took her out of my office. I walked over to my bar and poured myself another whiskey. My gaze fell on the clock in my office, and I almost spilled whiskey all over the place. I slammed my glass on the table and stormed out of the office. I overheard Rachel as I stormed past, "Mr. Parker, you’re supposed to interview a girl for the job..."
I didn't turn around and yelled, "Reschedule it."
Damn, Rita! Because of you, I forgot to tell Rachel to reschedule the interview, and now you've made me late. I rushed into the elevator and dashed out as soon as it reached the ground floor, bumping into a girl. Her hazel eyes and pine scent took me to another realm, and I hated it. I can’t afford any distractions right now. I pushed her away, but she didn't budge. I looked her up and down; she was petite and curvy, and her hair was sun-kissed, long, and wavy hair. Why couldn't I stop looking at her? And why the hell is the foyer so bright today?
She noticed me staring at her, so I began shouting at her to cover up my drooling. "How dare you stand in front of my elevator! Don't you know it's specifically for Kai Parker? It's not for anybody else."
She opened her mouth, but I pointed my finger at her, "Don't answer me. Keep your damn mouth shut."
She looked perplexed. Damn, I couldn't read her mind; it felt like she was blocking the doorway. Her presence genuinely gave me the chills. I am not sure what was causing my frustration. Rita? Being late getting to my mansion's basement? Or this girl?
My phone began ringing. I cut off eye contact and looked at my screen. I turned around and picked up, but Eli spoke up first, "Where the hell are you?"
"Yeah, I am on my way."
Eli yelled, "Don't you know there’s a full moon tonight?"
I opened my car door and shouted, "How could I forget Eli? I am the one that is cursed, not you." I threw my phone inside and climbed in; I didn't have time to wait for Alex. I started the engine and drove toward my mansion.
As soon as I arrived, I rushed to my basement as fast as possible where Eli was already sitting waiting for me. My basement is twice the size of a grand ballroom and its height is extraordinary. I immediately started to restrain myself in hefty shackles as Eli helped me. There were only a few minutes left before the full moon. My curse started to take over but Eli was standing next to me. I roared, “Get your ass outta here before I eat you!”
Eli smirked, “Your wolf won’t harm me, brother.”
Pain coursed through my body and Eli tied my last shackle. “Shut the f**k up…”
Eli ran and I bent to my knees, my bones cracked, and my muscles stretched under my skin. My fingers became claws, and my teeth transformed into fangs. My basement echoed with a guttural howl part human and part wolf.
My body continued to grow, getting taller and taller until I reached a staggering height. I had transformed into a fierce wolf as tall as a coconut tree.
My wolf raised his head and howled, assuring Eli that he was capable of eating him. All night, my monstrous wolf struggled to break from the restraints until he bled. It is my curse to transform into a demonic wolf every full moon. There is only one way to break this curse: to fall in love. However, Zamorra tricked me twice by telling me that every girl even if I started liking her would die.
I woke up lying naked on the floor. I tried to sit up, but every movement made my wounds bleed and I cried out. Eli arrived and began to unfasten the shackles, giving me a long tunic to wear. "I heard your wolf loud and clear last night."
I was in pain, but nothing could keep me from taunting my brother, "Now you understand his capability?"
Eli nodded. "Loud and clear." He continued, "But how could you be so careless, Kai?"
I looked at him, "You think I'm careless? I am the one who runs this massive chain of businesses, I am the one who built this empire, I am the one who is still looking for a way to return to our home, and I am the one who still refers to Eldaria as home, despite this bizarre Earth."
Eli folded his arms across his chest, "And you think I don't miss our home?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "It doesn't look like you miss Eldaria, you miss Mom and Dad, you miss our forest, you miss our little sister, Aria."
