While walking back to my car, I saw a guy wearing a bunny costume who stabbed a woman. I ran immediately toward them, and the man or woman wearing a bunny costume ran away. When I reached the woman, she was yelling in pain.
There were no locals around s**t! No witness, I cursed in my mind, “My name is Detective Casanova. I'm going to take you to the hospital," I said.
I guided her while she was still yelling in pain. The stab in her stomach is deep. I'm shocked she can still stand up. We reached the hospital after 5 minutes of driving. We rushed her to the emergency room.I went outside to call Warren.
“I found something. I need the whole team available," said with my voice full of panic and stress. It took a few seconds before Warren spoke, “We’re on our way.”
He said and ended the call.
A few minutes later, Warren, Davan, Vincent, and two police officers are now in front of me while I explain what happened earlier.
“A killer in a bunny costume,” Warren confirmed. "Yes. The victim is alive. But critical. The suspect stabbed her deep in her stomach.” I answered, “All our victims are stabbed to death,” Warren added.
I turned around facing the wall and started thinking, “Except for one.”
“What do you mean? ”Warren asked as the others looked at me. “Marice was shot, not stabbed,” I blurted. They looked at each other and nodded.
“So what if the Marice’s murder case and the latest victim—”
“Marice’s murder case is another suspect.” Warren continued what I was about to say, “How can you be so sure? Maybe the killer ran out of bullets,” Vincent added.
"Well, it's our job to investigate, right? We have nothing to lose if my theory is right or wrong,” I explained, and they all nodded.
The next day, I reported to Chief Arnold, who said that we have to focus on the mysterious bunny suspect.
“What about Marice’s family? ”I asked, “It's just one murder. Clara can handle that case.”
Cleira is a newbie. She never worked on a murder case before. I should protest, my mind suggested, “Cleira has never worked on a murder case before. She can't do it.”
"Yeah. It's her first time. She needs to learn,” Chief said and left. What the heck?
“My dad’s right. Leave it to Clear. We have to focus on more important cases,” said Warren. I glared at him, and he just raised an eyebrow. “f**k you," I said and walked out.
I headed straight to the apartment where Marice’s family is staying and knocked on their door to report what happened.
I explained what happened yesterday and what the Chief said earlier. They all looked disappointed, and I felt sorry for them. Losing someone without getting proper justice
“Don't worry. I'll privately held the new detective working on your case," said. Before leaving, the mom hugged me and thanked me.
“I haven't done anything yet," I said as I hugged her back. “You're willing to help, and that's what matters,” she answered.
I left the building feeling relieved that the family trusted me and sad at the same time because they lost their beloved Marice.
