Being a detective sucks. If I was going to get a second chance, I would rather come back as a cat or a rat. But instead, I was given the life of a lady whose life was being monitored. I had annoying colleagues, who were as stiff as scissors not being used in ages.
Today was not any different, cameras were clicking and I clutched mine and took a reluctant snap. I handed it back to my assistant, behind me.
But I was angry, not at my life this time but at the scene. Everyone seemed confused but I was not, I very much knew what I was dealing with and it made me angrier. Itâs been years, and they hadnât changedâspawns of the Devil, demons, evil beings; call them what you want but I called them werewolves.
âCome on Selena what do you think did this?â Micheal called out. Everyone seemed to think I was a one-stop solution-finder or nutcracker. The truth was just that I was experiencedâI was a werewolf, but not just anymore.
I walked to the scene, my hand on my gun, and stared at the dead man with his chest literallyânarrow gashes ran from his chest to his torso. This didnât look like it wanted a meal, it just wanted to kill him. I shook my head and turned to Micheal.
âItâs not clear what did this yet but we sure do have a case on our hands,â I said and Micheal stared at me.
Micheal and I had dated but called it quits, now we were just back to being best buddies and colleagues.
Micheal was hot. Tall, brown-haired, good-looking but our relationship didnât have chemistry except for the s*x of course. Other than that, we were just cut out to be friends.
I stared at the body once more and my hands clenched into fists. A werewolf did this, werewolves werenât supposed to let their presence be known. It was supposed to be kept a secret that one was a werewolf.
âLetâs get out of here. Make sure Perez got everything, including the pieces of evidence.â I said and my assistant nodded. Micheal sighed and walked with me, Micheal was a sergeant by the way, and a very nice one at that. However, you donât want to mess with him.
We got to Micheal's car and we slid in. I was in a terrible mood. I have been looking to catch themâwerewolves but for some reason, after my rebirth, I couldnât remember the location.
Only about werewolves, those who killed me, and my chance at revenge. But nothing had prepared me for a werewolf showing himself and killing a human outrightly.
The air was tense and for some reason, I could smell the ozone in the air, the evening sky darkened and thunder rumbled. Micheal cursed as the rain started to pour down heavily. He pulled up slowly.
âf*****g climate, this is why I loved Spain,â he said and I smiled. Spain was Michealâs birth country, he was half American, half Hispanic.
The air got charged and I felt a sense of foreboding, I could feel something was going to happen, my hair stood and I grabbed the wheels and swerved to the left.
A sonic boom, then the sound of lightning hitting the asphalt jerked the car forward. Micheal took control of the wheel and shot the car forward, but the car refused to move.
I turned back to see that the rear side of the car was smoking and probably burning.
Micheal followed my gaze, we looked at each other and scrambled out of the car, and ran as far as we could before the noise of an explosion shook the ground and I stumbled. Micheal steadied me and we kept running, we stopped at a local cafe and walked in, drenched.
âHot coffee please,â I said to the man behind the counter. Micheal nodded along.
We shuffled to the table and sat. Micheal stared at me strangely. I shrugged and shot him an annoyed glare.
âWhat?â I asked and he sighed.
âSomething isnât right, how could you tell that a lightning bolt was hurtling down our wayâ he said and I sighed. Honestly, I didnât know, my instincts had just screamed.
Get the hell out of that space.
I had swerved the car but it still hit us anyway, now Micheal's car was gone and we might have to call for backup.
âI donât know,â I said finally. âInstincts maybe?â
Micheal shrugged and nodded as the man brought two cups of steaming hot coffee. I took mine and drank it immediately. I could tell it was very hot but it didnât burn my tongue, maybe mildly but still tolerable.
Micheal stared at me as if I had sprouted two heads. I noticed he hadnât touched his drink yet and I realized I had drunk half of my coffee that was supposed to burn my tongue.
âYouâre alright?â He asked in concern and I nodded. The truth was that I wasnât alright, I was riled up and pissed. Werewolves... they were all the same, especiallymy packâBloodmoon.
The thing was they were based here in California but I couldnât find them. No matter how hard I combed the map I couldnât locate them. Maybe it was one price of the information the moon goddess had removed from my brain when she gave me another life.
Moon goddess? Did I still believe in that?
The door opened and a tall dark-haired dude walked in. I couldnât quite figure out why but my body reacted immediately. I suddenly was intrigued, by the way he walked, the way he looked around with this confident aura. His green eyes combed the place, then they settled on me. He kinda sniffed the air then he turned to me again and headed our way.
Micheal frowned making sure his ID was in view, he shook his head as the guy approached.
âUh-huh, cops,â Micheal said but the guy ignored Micheal like he didnât exist, he stared at me.
âMind if I sit, Detective,â he said and I was about to nod when I saw his eyes flash yellow.
Werewolf.
In a flash, my gun was in my hand, and pointed at him. Micheal did the same.
âRelax,â the guy said, âI might know who murdered that kid today,â he said.
