CHAPTER 2
I don't know him
The ambience of the hall was so magnetic that Thaila knew she couldn't but be on her toes tonight and be attentive to the end, any mistake on her path would make her husband look stupid. She knew this party was to meet the elite so as to make his selection as the Alpha a successful one.
Although he hasn't been chosen yet, he's the only heir of the late Alpha so automatically every member of the park knows he would walk in his father's stead or so everyone thought.
While his strength and dominance with the security he brought to the kingdom were evident and required of a powerful Alpha but his brutality was a silent poem that lays heavily on their lips which no one dares to recite aloud.
The driver came down and opened the door for him while Kael walked to his wife's side of the door to help her out, already selling his reputation. Thaila’s eyes watered immediately but she was quick to hide it away. She was deeply moved by his softness but sadness clouded her heart when she remembered that it's all fake. But she still longed for the day he would claim her as his like every other mate in the park.
She smiled softly at the onlookers as she placed her hand on his to get out of the car before heading towards the entrance. As usual her silver dress which beacons to the moon and a beauty that stands out easily from the pack pricks Kael’s heart unknowingly. This is the only thing that Kael was grateful she had.
Undeniable beauty.
Kael sneaked his hand around her waist, staking his claim from the intent eyes of the men, boring their eyes through his wife's flesh. He couldn't afford to lose her to any of the men in the room because it would haunt him.
He wants to secure leverage over her as much as he wants and still get to enjoy what other ladies throw his way.
It breaks his heart any time he thinks that some men would be interested in his mate and also kills him each time he remembers that his royalty blood is mixed with a commoner.
"Are you okay, you seem tense?" Thaila spoke softly to his ear as her eyes trailed to his hand around her waist, his grip was tight and firm, wondering what could be wrong.
Her bruised hand was neatly plastered making it look like an accident.
This is the end of the year anniversary and also a power hunt ground for the men of the pack.
"Did I complain about anything to you hun? You can do me a favor by closing that mouth of yours till the end of the ceremony" Keal responded, kissing the side of her mouth.
Thaila frown deepened, trying to understand the situation but came up with nothing, she shook her head as she followed him around, greeting and introducing her to some men.
Doing the same thing over and over again until she couldn't go around in her heels, deciding to summon her courage she begged to sit for a while and surprisingly he agreed.
She quickly sat down at the nearest table, taking a sip from the glass water before proceeding to have a bite of the cake on it. Using her eyes to watch Kael closely so she wouldn't lose him in the crowd which was impossible.
The quiet moment she was enjoying was abruptly cut shut when a tall man came to her table smiling sheepishly at her and blocking her vision from seeing Kael.
"Hey, my name is Robert, are you new here?" He asked, with his hands stretched out for a handshake.
Thaila shook her head, wondering why he approached her out of nowhere. He pulled out a seat and sat down across her chair while trying to engage her in a conversation but before the man could open his mouth to say whatever he had in it.
A loud gasp spread across the room as a fuming lady splashed the red wine on the table at Thaila's face. Nothing prepares her for what happened next, the lady took the cake and covered her face with it before screaming at the top of her lungs.
"why would you flirt with my man like that, knowing that we are already engaged, don't you see the ring on his finger? Is that why you put on something so revealing so you could seduce the men here hun? Too bad your plans won't work this time around" the lady was saying, attracting attention to their table.
Thaila was too shocked to react, her mouth was slightly opened as she tried to comprehend what just happened to her. Her ashes that cling to her body were already soaked revealing her delicate skin and her make up ruined. She couldn't find her voice to demand for an explanation as to what warrants this madness.
Can't trouble just leave her out of it's business in a day?
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you are talking about, I was sitting here before your supposed fiance walk up to me to start a conversation, you should have known how to tame your fiancé instead of passing aggression on others" Thaila responded at last, after the injustice of what happened to her sunk in.
"what's going on here?" Kael asked in a cold voice that made everyone held their breath.
The lady spoke first "I'm so sorry, it was all my fault, I mistook him for my fiancé and acted rashly without thinking" she apologized looking pitiful and sad.
"Oh my god, that was a pure mistake, it wasn't entirely her fault"
"that would teach others a lesson not to talk to random men at a party because who knows, they might be someone's husband"
"I saw her flirting with him first, she deserves it, I would have done more if I was in her shoes"
Thaila heard the snide comment flying through the big room which has suddenly become small because everyone has now turned their attention to them.
The veins on Kael's head were strained, his jaw tightened as his eyes moved from his wife to the mess she created.
The man who was the cause of the misunderstanding has excused himself after the lady apologized sincerely.
Kael took his wife by the hand, with a fixed smile on his face, Thaila knew this was the end for her, the hair on her back stood still anticipating her punishment as he dragged her away from the scene after covering her exposed skin with his suit.
"Kael, I swear I can explain, it wasn't what you think, I was on my own before the man walked up to my table. I swear in my life that I didn't say a word to him nor did I acknowledge his presence" Thaila rushed to explain before Kael would think of what to do with her.
"just shut the f**k up and follow me" Kael instructed, tightening his grip on her wrist, almost crushing it.
