Chapter one:Red
"Honey, what do you want for breakfast?" Red's mom asked from the kitchen, but she got no response. So, she rushed to Red's room and saw her still sleeping.
"Red!!! You'll be late for school," she shouted as Red jumped from bed.
"Mom, please stop treating me like a child," she complained, wrapping herself in her duvet and heading to her restroom. Soon, she joined her mom in the kitchen, grabbed an apple, and put it in her bag.
"I prepared your favorite scramble, baby," her mom said.
"Mom, I'm not interested in your meals. I'll be late for school," Red said as she rushed to the car. Her mom joined her shortly and caught her wiping her eyes quickly.
"Red, what's the matter?" she asked in a serious tone.
"Mom, just leave me alone," Red barked.
Jennie was a housekeeper who worked for an agency that transferred her from one house to another to clean. Ever since Red's dad died, their wealth crashed along with him because he was everything in the house—he did everything while Jennie just made meals and did the dishes. She couldn't find any decent job because she dropped out of school when she got pregnant with Red, and Red's dad, Marco, took care of everything. But now that he's gone and they've exhausted all the money he left for them, all Jennie has is her housekeeping job. She does her best to take care of Red, but all Red has given her is resentment and hatred.
"You know, Red, all I've done was my best for you to have a comfortable life, and all I get is your attitude," Jennie said, driving with her eyes steady on the road.
"Mom, you haven't done anything for me. Ever since dad left, things have never been the same," Red blurted.
"Red, with all the efforts I put in, is this how ungrateful you are??"
"Mom, don't you ever call me that," Red shot back.
Jennie's eyes began to water. "Baby, I dropped out of school because I had you. My parents disowned me, and it was only Marco who took me in. All I did was care for you ever since I was a teen. I never even got to enjoy my youth because I had a family to take care of," she paused, crying.
"Mom, that was just you being irresponsible at college," Red shot back.
"What the hell did you just say?" Jennie's voice rose.
"Mom!!!" Red called, pointing at the car fast approaching them, but it was too late. The two cars collided.
Red woke up in the hospital.
"Where's my mom???" she asked the nurse beside her.
"It was a serious accident, dear. She obtained severe injuries and is in the ER. The doctors are still checking on her."
Immediately, the doctors came out.
"Are you her daughter?"
"Yes, she's my mum."
The doctor explained everything to her and told her that she'll have to spend more time in the hospital because she's in a coma.
"But she'll be fine, right?" Red asked, red-eyed.
"I can't tell," the doctor said and walked out.
Red was so shocked she couldn't even cry. She just stared at her mom through the glass.
"Red…we are sorry about your mom," Cammy rushed to console her.
"Sorry, girl. She'll be fine. Let's be hopeful," Hazel said as they hugged her.
Red couldn't help but wonder why she felt so strange about the hospital.
"Do you guys notice the weird energy from this hospital?" Red asked them.
"No, girl," Cammy said, laughing.
Red turned and noticed a man dressed in black who had been staring at her, but she immediately turned away.
"Guys, this hospital's giving me creeps, but I want to stay close to mom."
"It's fine. We can come and check on her early tomorrow. At least it'll help her recovery," Hazel said as they drove back home.
Red was thinking about losing her mom because of her ungrateful character. She couldn't bear the fact that her mom might not wake up ever. She felt so guilty and absentminded from what the girls were discussing.
They all went to stay at Red's house overnight.
Red kept having nightmares about her parents and strange creatures, and a woman dressed in black with a veil. She woke up sweating and panting heavily; her friends were still asleep. She sneaked out of bed so she wouldn't wake them up and went to the kitchen for water. After drinking, she turned and saw the woman in black from her dreams. She gasped for air in fear; she couldn't even scream.
"When the black rain falls from a dark night sky, the curse will be awakened. Its devastation would reign for a thousand years. Are you ready, sister?" she whispered in her ear and disappeared.
