Chapter2

“Did you do it with him?” Jake asked with a croaked voice. His heart thudded as his gaze was fixed on Bella's lips. She had never granted him what he wanted. Bella will either give him a peck on the cheek and pat him on the back whenever he made her smile, but here was a message of her being intimate with another guy. “Answer the goddamn question, Bella! Did you sleep with him?” “You are a damn fool! I can't believe you are playing the boyfriend role over the chewing gum money you have been spending all this while. Do you think your money actually means anything to me? And who gave you the right to snoop through my phone? Bella shouted at him and snatched her phone from Jake. She ran out of the house with Jake trying to catch up with Bella, but what he saw made his leg feel numb. His eyes locked with the latest Lamborghini right in front of his little house. The car was of the latest model, and only a few rich people could afford it. Who was this man, and how far had he and Bella gone? The question echoed in his mind, but to his surprise it was Maxwell. The sun caught his glowing skin as his outfit speaks volumes. His guards, immediately stepping out, formed a straight line with their heads bowed in unison. Jake's mind can't process it all; if Bella was with Maxwell, then it was game over. Everyone knows how rich and influential his family was. Jake was nobody compared to Maxwell, who could get anything and anyone he wanted. Everywhere he goes, there are paparazzi left and right. Jake immediately started to see some of the students all trooping into his compound with their flashy cars and fancy clothes. Apparently, they had followed Maxwell to his house, but why? Bella rushed towards him, and he caught her in the midair. “Why didn't you tell me you were coming?” Bella said after kissing him on the lips. She wiped the lip gloss off his lips as she kept her gaze locked on him. “I wanted to make it a grand entrance. You know how I do my things.” Max said, flaunting his new golden wristwatch he had just gotten from Paris. “Wow! She is damn lucky. I wish I could have a man like that as my boyfriend.” One of the female students said, biting her lips. “He is not only rich but handsome, and god, I love the way he is dressing.” Another said. They all looked at Jake, who was wearing shorts and a singlet on him. “I wondered what he is thinking anyway, dragging his girlfriend with Maxwell Philips.” A boy who was seated on his car said with a wide grin, “Jake is a sore loser, and I bet Bella was just having a nice time with him. Now she is done having her fun.” Another student added. Jake stood still, engrossed with everything he was seeing. “I got you something.” Maxwell said slowly walking back to his car. Bella gave Jake a death look, which speaks volumes. [STUDENTS GASPED] “Do you see that?” A student adjusting her golden spectacles said in awe. “That must have cost a fortune.” Another replied. Maxwell brought out a bouquet from behind and looked at Bella's face. “Will you, Bella Smith, accept to be my girlfriend?” Everyone looked at Bella's face; some were praying she would turn him down while others said she would be a fool to turn an important figure like Maxwell down. Jake's heart thudded like he was dying. He dragged his heavy foot like they were refusing to listen to him. “You can't do this, Bella. I love you.” Those were the words he wanted to utter, but they were stuck in his throat as he kept walking towards them like a zombie. “Yes! I will be your girlfriend, Maxwell Philips.” Bella shouted and jumped in his arms. Everyone clapped as they watched both of them in awe. “Let's get out of here. We need to celebrate this.” Maxwell caught Bella by the gaze, even making Jake feel angered. He grabbed his hands and yanked it away. “What are you doing?” Jake asked, finally getting his voice back. “What? Who is he?” Maxwell asked, looking at Bella. He knew who Jake was, but he wanted to humiliate him right in the presence of the students. “He is nobody. Just some fool who doesn't know his place.” Bella said without any emotions. The words hit Jake to his curbs. “Me? No one?” He stared at Bella, trying to search for his next words. “You told me you loved me. Was that all nothing too?” Jake asked “Love? Who will love a broke-ass guy like you? Hell no!. You can't even afford me this.” Bella showed off her bouquet, which was made with dollar notes. “And what was that thing you bought for me then?” “That was the latest in the store, babe. Why are you doing this to me? We can make this work. I promise to give you all you ever wanted when I graduate in flying colors and start working.” Jake said pitifully. Maxwell gave out a laugh that made his face flush with anger. “And when will that be? You are just too pathetic. Can't you deal with the fact that she is above your league? A girl like Bella is not meant for someone like you. The earlier you understand this, the better. And what did you say again? Future?” Maxwell laughed again and immediately started to stroll towards his car. “Are you coming?” He turned and looked at Bella, who blew him a kiss. “I will be with you right after I discard this hungry-looking fellow off my back.” Jake was dazed; he couldn't believe the girl who he had spent almost all his life savings on could discard him like he was no one. “Don't call me anymore, Jake. This is goodbye.” Bella said with anger. She was about to walk away, but then Jake drew her back. Before he could utter a word, a deafening slap landed on his face loud enough for everyone to hear. “I told you already. You mean nothing to me!”
