He was already feeling this sudden emptiness in his heart but couldn't understand why he felt that way.
“Is it because I'm leaving Aurora? No, it can't be possible,” he pondered.
He was quite optimistic within him that it wasn't his inner wolf holding him down. He equally doesn't want to leave Aurora behind either.
Narrowing his gaze behind him, he was so shocked not to find Aurora anymore but when he looked downwards, he discovered that she was the one holding his feet and restricting his movement. He wondered how she looked so fragile, yet very energetic.
He giggled and pulled her up.
While he was pulling her up, they had this partial eye contact again, and he knew that she had him under control.
Aurora knew that he was her mate the moment she met him for the first time.
She can't just get her eyes off him for a second. With the way he looked, she knew that their wolves had already sensed each other.
She wondered, “Don't he find me quite attractive and charming? Why was he resisting the urge to take me in?”.
These questions flooded her mind like an erosion as she watched Maverick's nonchalant reaction toward her. He wasn't even poised to take her home.
She could have sworn that they weren't mates not until he pulled her closer to stop her from crying.
She felt a type of way she hadn't felt before, her heart was racing so fast like the Formula One car racing sport.
Whenever she looked at him, she usually felt a twitch in her heart but did her best to maintain and coordinate herself to avoid being taken for granted.
“I'm going back to the Pack.
I hope to see you soon.
Do take care of yourself,”
Maverick told her. It wasn't the best of goodbyes. She expected more! She expected him to take her along, but it never happened. She knew that she needed to do something real quick.
Aurora finally got her chance when Shadow told Maverick that he was going to the spot where he had hunted to retrieve his bow.
She started following him while she was about to reveal to him that she was his mate, she heard him speak and with what he said she knew that he felt the same way about her.
“ I need to speak with you urgently.
So I'll be quick with it. I'm your…" She wasn't done talking when Shadow showed up from nowhere.
“You are my what?” Maverick asked hoping to get a response, but she stayed like someone with glued lips.
She thought of another strategy and then thought that it would be wiser to do something weird which was holding.
Their eyes met again. This time, she would rather not let go, but there was nothing she could do when he didn't seem interested in her.
“I want to be your Luna,” She hurriedly said.
This was a shock to both Maverick and Shadow as they both looked at her in surprise.
“What did I just do? I never wanted to tell him that I was his mate, what have I done? Okay, it's fine I only said that I wanted to be his Luna, I can change it by telling them something different”. She mumbled.
She immediately put her thoughts into action by telling them she only meant that she wanted Maverick to take her into his pack but if it was going to be weird she was ready to pretend to be his Luna.
Maverick breathed a sigh of relief. He had the intention of turning her down disgracefully. He felt she wasn't fit enough to become his Luna.
Although she tried to clear things off by what she said, it got worse because Maverick thought of how he was going to see her every time and how he was sure that his wolf might make him overreact someday.
While he was drowned in his thoughts, he was disturbed by Shadow who told him that he needed to make up his mind quickly.
The whole pack would soon get worried and would set out searching for them if they spent more time in the woods.
Maverick practiced in his mind how he was going to inform her that he couldn't take her but was interrupted when Shadow reminded him that he was the Alpha of the pack and his decision was final.
Immediately Shadow finished talking, Aurora knew that she had hope of joining the pack and Maverick also noticed that her eyes became wide open as she awaited his answer.
After a while, Maverick told her that he couldn't, bringing a stranger into the pack as a threat to the pack, and he had already been told by the Gamma that his mate was in the pack.
Aurora felt sorrowful by his response and left their presence immediately, while Maverick and Shadow continued their journey to the pack.
On their way, Shadow broke the silence that was between them immediately Aurora left by asking him why he made a decision.
“Look, I'm not just an ordinary Alpha. I'm forceful and my decision is final.
I can't be cajoled by your mere show of pity,” he responded.
Shadow observed that Maverick wasn't happy even with his outburst and then told him that he shouldn't deny himself of his happiness just to please the pack.
He also informed him that his responsibility as an Alpha was to protect the pack and nothing else, but he was caught and shot by Maverick who responded to him by notifying him that his responsibility as an Alpha also included not putting his pack in danger.
Shadow, who was also known to be very argumentative, retorted by sharing with him that his happiness as an Alpha is also the happiness of the whole pack.
Shadow had said this to Maverick just so that he wouldn't be left speechless, but it wasn’t the same for Maverick as those words sank deep inside him.
He didn't reply or say Anything to Shadow until they got back to their pack.
When they arrived, they noticed that the pack soldiers had already gathered and were ready to go searching for them, but when they heard that they were back, they halted.
“We were so worried about you two. What happened?” One of them questioned Alpha Maverick.
“Does it matter? We are here now,” Maverick gave a cold response. He would rather not speak to anyone but chose to be alone.
They had no option but to ask Shadow who bluntly told them that Maverick had found his mate in the woods and had to abandon her there because of his responsibility as an Alpha.
The pack was thrown into a state of confusion as they tried to uncover the truth from Maverick because they never believed Shadow, but Maverick wasn't ready to talk to anyone or defend himself from the allegations.
That night while the whole pack was asleep, Someone left the pack unnoticed.
