Time flies by when you're having fun.. Surprisingly faster when in decades.. Even to now.. Year 2025
Louise's POV
These years have seemed to come and go very easily for me, since this is all fun and games, with happiness surrounding me each day as I experience something new with every single place we travel to just to bring people together. I have been around the world, traveling from one place to the next, while learning so much from each culture which is exhilerating. Anna, of course, is now my best friend, and goes with me everywhere as we stick together as if this is a team effort.
When we actually know that this can be done by ourselves, but we just choose not to do things that way. We have discussed many times how we prefer it this way, we still get the job done and make it fun, not just for them, but ourselves as well. This way has made the pain of not having our own match much easier. We lean on each other for support as we pick each other up with any positivity that we can. We mostly make our job into games and deals, adding a flare to what could be considered mundane after all these years.
So I won't object one bit to the way we are living our everyday lives, while helping so many others as we had wanted. Sadly though, because of the dry heat in this new city, my body hasn't been as happy here as in other places. At least for right now, because of the time of the year that it is. We spend about a year at each place to really experience it before going onto the next, so being here for a couple of months now hasn't been bad, but I can't wait until it gets cooler with the winter months. I need it.
It's been far too hot here in the city. The large buildings make it feel as if they are holding the heat around us and not letting even a little bit of it out, like an engulfingly hot hug that you can't escape from. To me, the summer here is almost not worth it, but everyone deserves love, so I will deal with it for now for the people and their happiness' sake.
Letting out a deep breath while walking down the streets of this new city, I am enjoying the bright sights of flashing neon lights and smiling faces of the passersby. The vibrant red sun is showing how the fires, that have been happening in this dry but hot time, are absolutely stunning when closer by. Probably not so beautiful for the cities next to us where the fires are at but I am trying to stay positive. Mostly seeing some beauty among the devistating chaos.
"Where to next?" I ask as we share a large smile and continue to prance in unison down the sidewalk and past the stores that are closing down for the night. "Oooh look." Anna declares before pointing across the street at a movie theater and bar sitting side by side. They share the same wall, but the lines to enter the place are filled with completely different people. The line for the bar is filled with mostly singles along with couples sporatically inbetween, and the movie line is filled with couples that look nervous as if they are on first dates.
"Awe, I call the theater! That sounds fun and entertaining. You take the bar, and we will meet up out front after. If I get more pairs than you, then you will buy me some dinner.. Sounds good?" She declares and only gives me a chance to nod before she is prancing away across the street, past the line of people and into the theater. I took her lead and crossed the street before drifting past the security guard at the front door to the bar just as she did to get into the theater.
Luckily, now that I am used to being a cupid, I know how to stay invisible to whoever I want to be, then appear without anyone even noticing as if I have been there the whole time. It's funny how oblivious people are to stuff around them, especially when under any type of influence and having their attention always on their electrical devices. It makes going in and out of places so much easier, and I will take any extra help that I can get.
Letting out a deep breath as my eyes bounce around the room, I try to figure out where to start as I shake my hands out at my side as if to wake them up just to prepare to work. Now that I have learned how to properly cupid over these many years, I don't need the bow and arrow unless I see a connection from far away. It's amazing I can connect two people just by the touch of my hands now, as if they are the bow and arrow connected to me permenantly. Which makes things a bit easier.
So, I walk into the bar with my hands ready to go to pair some people up. My eyes bounce around just to see a lot of people drinking at tables and the bar railing. With more people dancing in the back. Plan of attack: I will start off walking towards the bar railing, helping out where I can over there as I pass them. Then I will make myself around the room, going to the dance floor next and onto the tables later, if I have some time. Can't wait to see how many I can make from this crowd.
The first two people I see match in their souls and look like they have only talked for about a minute, but at least they are trying with the right one. I will just give them a boost in the right direction. Casually, I grabbed his hand and put it around the back of her seat, touching his arm, then her shoulder as I watched them both light up and, of course, not even noticing me as they scooted closer and continued talking.
I smirk to myself satisfied with another successful pairing, then without hesitation my eyes move onto the next target. Curious though, I am seeing that the next guy has something strange about him, it's interesting because he has a color I haven't seen in any auras yet, which I would assume would make a nice challenge. His soul match is teal with a bright white around him, but the girl beside him is a blue with a light color in the middle.
It's hard for me to tell what color it is exactly because of my angle, but I think it might be white or a very light yellow. It has got to be close enough for it to be a match, right? So, doing the same as before, with a mischievous smirk on my face, I gently take his forearm into my hand and drape it over her shoulders, letting my fingertips glide across his arm and to the top of her shoulders to help them connect. She smiles big, looking over at him and not me.. but, surprisingly enough, he doesn't match her enthusiasm.
Oddly though, between them there is no connecting eyes or smiles nor even a connection at all to speak of. It's strange, the look on his features are filled with curiosity, as if he is wondering how his arm moved before he glances over at me. My large smirk gets smaller with my shock building. This is strange since no one ever notices me or my actions, so his attention completely on me catches me off guard as I continue to walk by.
I just hope that his attention is taken away from me since I am leaving them and then, hopefully, his attention will be back onto the match I have tried to set up for them. Maybe his mind is slower, maybe he needs just a minute to figure out this is what he wants and gets distracted with her so I can help the next couple. Turning away, I keep walking, but I could not shake the feeling of eyes on me. Curiosity gets the best of me as I look back at him, seeing his eyes still attached to me.
Quickly I turned back around in shock since I was really hoping this feeling was deceiving me and that he wouldn't notice me now. I glanced back at him, seeing his eyes were still on me, when I knew that they should be on the woman beside him, but right away, he takes his arm away from her back and scoots away from her as if that is nothing he could have wanted. I haven't had anything like that happen before. They always accept the match that is made with them, but he looks like he doesn't want anything to do with her.
Which is strange, but I just assumed that since the color combinations were close enough that they would still work out, especially since I have never seen teal in the center of an aura before, which says to me that there are not many for someone like him, so he could hopefully match with anyone similar, but apparently not. I get nervous seeing this, probably just being caught off guard as I never expected.
Maybe my hands didn't work their usual magic, touching them as I should to properly connect them. So, with determination in my steps, I turned around and headed back to them. With my head shaking in disbelief of what had happened, and our eyes still connected, with his smile growing the closer I got to him again. Without hesitation, I reached out, picking up his arm and putting it around her as I made sure to touch both of them this time around because maybe I didn't do it enough the last time.
To my disappointment, once again, they didn't ignore me and become enthralled with one another, as they should have. I'm beside myself as I noticed the man looking just as confused as I am and taking his hand back again while looking at the other woman, sending a polite apology before looking back to me as our orbs connected instantly. But before I have a chance to react, he is smiling at me, then winks.
His handsome features light up when looking at me, making me nervous but a different kind of nervous. Like when I went out on my first date, kind of nervous. My heart beats against my chest plate when seeing this, all I could do was back away before turning, then walking away from them. Confusion takes over, maybe the teal and blue weren't close enough. I have now learned that, so maybe green would be better off for him.
With my head continuing to shake, I make my way across the room to help others, having a couple of successes, but I can't seem to fully concentrate on pairing up since I can't shake the intoxicating feeling of his eyes on me. Swallowing the nervous knot in my throat, I look back to see that he is still smiling at me as I had suspected. Noticeably his eyes trail up and down my frame. I haven't really been checked out like this before, or at least I have never felt like this about it before.
