CHAPTER 45 “God’s bollocks!” The bark of pistol fire brought Bowie’s group to a halt. They had grown accustomed to the distant cannon blasts, but this new sound was closer, presenting a more imminent threat. More shots followed, and Bowie recognized the bellow of muskets adding to the din. “What do you make of it?” He asked Andre. “Someone’s in one hell of a battle.
