Valerie I had my breakfast and went to my room for a quick nap. My felt someone's hands on me. My eyes snapped open immediately sleep vanishing the moment I saw Mr.Hayes sitting on my bed. I sprang up, glaring at him. “What are you doing here?” He leaned back slightly, completely at ease. “What else? To make you agree to my terms.” My jaw tightened. “Mr. Hayes, please leave my room” “This is my house,” he said with a smug smile. “I'm your boss. Remember that.” I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. If I stayed here any longer, I might do something I'll regret. Without another word, I walked past him and left the room. I needed space. I went to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water, and headed to the living room. I had barely taking a sip when I heard heavy footsteps behind me. Mr.Hayes walked in with fury in his eyes. “How dare you walk out on me?” he snapped. Before i could react, he shot forward and grabbed my neck his. My breath caught. His grip tightened, and I instinctively wrapped my hands around his wrist, trying to pry it from my neck. He threw me on the couch, and before I could recover, he was hovering above me, pinning my hands above my head. I struggled kicking, twisting, and trying to get free. “Let go of me,” I gasped The door opened. Maya stood at the entrance. Mr.Hayes quickly let got off me like I burned him. I scrambled up, my body shaking, heart racing uncontrollably. Maya’s eyes moved between us, mouth hung open in shock. “Babe, it's not what you think,” Mr Hayes said. quickly. “I promise.” Before I could even speak, she stormed towards me and slapped me hard across the face. “I know you seduced him!” she snapped, pointing at me. I stared at her, completely stunned. Was she serious? I shook my head trying to explain when a slap landed across my face again. “Liar! what do you have to say?” Mr.Hayes asked. “You seduced me” “No, no, no,” I said frantically. “That's not true. You forced me,” my voice broke as I tried to hold back my tears. He turned to Maya, cupping her face gently with both hands. “Babe, who do you believe?” Maya looked at me with pure disgust before turning back to Mr. Hayes. “I believe you babe.” A victorious smile flashed across his face. “You're fired,” he said. The words hit harder than the slap I felt the ground beneath my feet shake. Tears I had been trying to hold spilling out. No. This can't happen. I have too much to lose. How am I going to pay mom’s debt. How would I support Isabelle. Desperation took over, without thinking twice, I rushed forward, knelling down in front of Mr. Hayes. A look of Suprise crossed his face not expecting my reaction. Then it turned to satisfaction. “Mr.Hayes please don't do this,” I said sobbing. “Pack your things and leave my house within next hour,” he said coldly, turning away. I grabbed his legs, trying to stop him. “Please, I really need this job.” “Would you accept that you seduced me?” I paused for a moment and looked up at him. “If not,” he continued, “Then forget about the job.” Maya looked at him surprised. “You're giving her back the job?” “Yes,” he turned to her. “If she is willing to admit her mistakes.” Maya didn't look pleased, but she agreed. “Yes…I did it,” They both turned to me. The fury in Maya’s eyes came back, while Mr.Hayes had a smug smile. “You b***h, I'm going to tear you apart,” Maya said coming toward me. Mr Hayes held her back. “Babe we have a flight for our vacation, remember? Let's not waste our time on her” Maya paused, then smiled. “You're right Babe.” “Valerie, you can go. We will be back in three days” “Okay sir” I walked back to my room to get my things, my head hanging low. The pain of admitting to something I didn't do hurt more than anything they had ever done to me. I packed slowly tears running down my cheeks. I looked at myself in the mirror. My left cheek was swollen and had bruise mark from Maya's nails. I took a cab home and decided to make lunch to distract myself. A few hours later, Isabelle came home. “Sis, you’re back,” she said pulling me into a tight hug. I laughed hugging back. “I made pasta and meatballs, your favourite” “Really?” Her eyes widened. “That's why I love you.” “Oh? That's the only reason,” I asked with a small smile. “No. Part of the reasons” “Okay, I need to sleep,” I said heading towards my room. “wait… sis, what happened to your face?” I stopped in my tracks, not turning back to face her. “Nothing,” I said, walking forward. She rushed over and blocked my path. “That's not what your face is saying,” she said softly, moving closer and turning my face to the side. “Who did this to you?” “I'm fine Isa,” I opened my door and went in. The last thing I wanted right now was to be reminded of the scene with those heartless people. After a couple of hours, I woke up feeling refreshed. Isabelle was cooking, while humming to a song. She looked happy. This is how I wish it would always be. I smiled, looking at her, when a call came into my phone. I looked at the screen. Strange. The number was not saved. I walked back into my room, and answered the call. “Hello?” “Valerie Thompson,” a cold voice called. I removed my phone from ear and looked at it. “Yes…yes, that's me. Who are you?” “The boss you mother owed.” My heart skipped a beat. Why was he calling? The agreed date was still almost a week away. “It’s not yet the agreed date,” I said bravely, trying to hide my trembling in my voice. “I know. Make sure there will be no excuses be on that day,” he said, and hung up.
