Leona POV
I woke up to my alarm buzzing in my bed alone. It was early so no sunlight peering in at me in all the loneliness in here. I got up and stretched and got ready for work. I grabbed Brock's diaper bag for the day care and went in and woke him up. "Good morning sunshine!" I told him as he smiled up at me. He mouthed "mom ma" up at me. He is the most precious thing in the world. I got him changed and ready for the day and packed my lunch while he ate some toast in his high chair.
After also eating my own toast i used some baby wipes to clean his hands and face and we headed out to the car. I dropped him at day care and I went on to work. I was thirty minutes early and I sat in my car alone. I check my phone again for this morning nothing. I hadn't heard a word from AJ. I wasn't sure that I wanted to but I thought I would hear something from him. That he would ask to talk to Brock or anything. I couldn't believe he wouldn't even check on his own son. I could fill the tears brimming up. I took a deep breath. I tried to clear my head. I couldn't cry at work.
About that time I heard a tap on my window. I jumped startled from having my eyes close and look at the passenger window where it came from. It was Ethan. At least I had pushed the tears back. I rolled the window down. "Good morning beautiful." he told me smiling, " I went through the hardy's drive thru and they gave me an extra chicken biscuit, would you want it? I couldn't eat both?" he told me. His compliment making me grin and my stomach growling on queue with the mention of food giving away that my toast hadn't filled me up. "Sure, I love a good chicken biscuit.Wanna get in and eat?" I asked unlocking the door so he could open it. "Yeah." Ethan smiled at me the sun reflecting off his baby blue eyes before getting in quickly. He opened the bag and handed me the extra chicken biscuit. I had a water to wash it down with in the car with me.
"They wouldn't have put any barbeque sauce in there did they?" I asked hopefully. Ethan looked around in the bag. "Actually, You might just have gotten lucky! There is one pack in here!"He told me smiling and handed it over to me. "Do you put it on your biscuit?" He asked. I nodded and I poured it on quickly and began eating. I checked the time we had about ten minutes left to eat before we should head in.
"How was your weekend?" Ethan asked. I immediately took a deep shaky breath. I just shook my head and swallowed my food. "It was the roughest one I've had in a long time." I answered honestly without giving any details. Him knowing would just embarrass me further. "That sucks." he says, not prying thankfully. We ate in silence both of us finishing our biscuits in just a few moments, leaving us sitting in the car in silence for a few minutes. "Want to walk in?" Ethan asks. I groaned rolling my eyes. "Is it time already? I need more sleep." I say rubbing my eyes, my stomach being full making me want to return to a bed even if it was alone. "Me too. I did a lot of running and did;t sleep much." he told me.
We got out of the car but didn't even make it to the fence when I saw AJ out of the corner of my eye walking towards us. How long had he been there?
"Didn't even wait two days before moving on, huh?" He spat out me loudly enough to draw the attention of my co-worker trying to go in to work. "Excuse me?" I asked. "He already knows your breakfast order and had it waiting here on you! Don't bother lying to me, I saw him come over and bring it to the car and get in and eat with you." He volume stayed the same and caused me to fill up with rage. "How dare you?! Come to my work and make a scene? After what I discovered this weekend, you have the nerve to show your face to me at all. You need to leave." I told him my voice started out loudly and calming as I spoke I wouldn't let him take my job. He charged me like he did every time we argued, he never laid a hand on me but used it to intimidate me. That's when Ethan stepped in front of me and before I could tell him not to bother, he punched him. He punched him dead in the jaw! AJ fell back on his butt, grabbing his jaw. He stood up quickly and started towards Ethan to fight him when the security guards from work made it over just in time and made him leave. I stood there in shock looking between AJ being escorted off the property and Ethan standing in front of me.
"I'm sorry, I know you probably didn't want me involved, but I couldn't stand there and listen to him talk to you like that. Then he ran at you and I just lost control for a moment." Ethan stood in front of me explaining what I had just witnessed. I stood blinking him for a moment. "He wasn't going to hurt me." I said. "But I understand. I'm not mad. . . .I am just shocked, I guess." I told him. "What can I do?" Ethan asked, I thought, wanting to comfort me. "Go to work." I said "That's what I am going to do." I told him and turned and heading into the building to clock in. I was going to be late now and I had to hope that I wouldn't get fired for AJ showing up here and causing a scene and I had to pray that Ethan would not get in trouble for assaulting someone on company property, even if it was for trying to protect me. After a second, Ethan caught up with me and walked in behind me but didn't bother trying to carry a conversation any further. I needed this job. I just needed to get through today first. I clocked in and went to my area to work.
