CHAPTER 1 - LANA ARC
Lana Arc, a nineteen-year-old caramel skin beauty and young daughter of the House of Assassin belonging to a group referred to as the Dark Arcana group. A that stood as a balance between the realm of humans and mystics. A popular con artist and assassin, she served the cult diligently no questions asked. She knew her role as a member of the dark arcana and stood by it but something had gone wrong along way. An easy mission had deemed her a traitor. The cold embraced her as soon as she stepped out of the taxi, her blue eyes laid on the magnificent building just across the street, her long white hair had been dyed black and beautifully packed in a ponytail. She had on a gold sleeveless gown that complemented her caramel skin, it was a long gown that stopped at her ankle, the slit up to her thighs to aid her movement. Her exposed back made her curse the fact that she’d left her jacket behind, she strode across the street towards the building, a group of people were already gathered in front, all in a straight line as they waited for the hefty man in front of the building to check their ticket. ‘Easy peasy’ she pulled her ticket out of her black purse and took a place on the line. A Mr. Alfonse had discovered a special artifact and was displaying it at his museum today. She was to retrieve it before it fell into the wrong hands. A rather easy task considering her skills. “Need a jacket” a husky voice called out behind her followed by the warmth that came over her. Turning swiftly, she examined the young man that had come to her aid. He was quite taller than her with a perfect build, black hair and brown eyes, his features were quite charming, pointed nose, a perfect jaw line and well-structured cheek bones. His lip was pale pink and he was dressed in an ash suit – the suit jacket now rested over her shoulders – the top three buttons of his shirt undone, he flashed a smile at her as their eyes met. She wasn’t here for some get together but she had to appreciate his kind gesture. “Thank you” she wasn’t going to build any form of relationship with the guest, that would only complicate things, she pulled off the jacket and the biting cold granted her instant regret. “Here” His brown eyes fell to the jacket and then back to her. “I wasn’t trying to make a move on you if that’s what you think, I just thought you might be needing it” “Well, I am fine” she responded sharply “The goosebumps say otherwise” she looked over her shoulder and cursed inwardly. He could come in handy she thought, he looked like someone with influence. He would do. “You can hand it back to me once you are inside” he didn’t wait for her to object, moving pass the long line he made his way to the hefty guard who granted him entry. “I was right, definitely a big shot” she stared at his ID she had swiped – Andrew Leon Wayne – you could never be too careful, she needed to be sure he wasn’t a threat after all, she looked at the jacket for a while and threw it over her shoulder. Once she was in, she’d hand him the jacket and continue with her mission. Within the mansion, she embraced the warmth in contrast to the cold that had assaulted her, her eyes searching. “There you are?” the man approached her, two glasses in his hand. “Thank you for the jacket” she pulled it off handing it over to him. He gestured at her, showing his full hand and she frowned. “Have a drink with me?” “I thought you weren’t making a pass” she stated hanging the jacket on top his shoulder. He looked to it for a while before slowly taking his eyes to her. “I wasn’t then” ‘I have no time for this’ rolling her eyes, she brushed past him – the unveiling was starting soon, she had to be quick. She could hear him calling out to her but she ignored, taking a left turn she proceeded down the hall to the main room. A lot of people were already gathered and she blended smoothly with the crowd. A man probably in his fifties stood on the podium, plump in size, he held a drink in his hand, she assumed he was Mr. Alfonse. The screen behind displayed what she was here for, a gold necklace with a glass prism at the center. “There you are my beautiful baby” she grinned, watching the men that walked out with a mental box in their hand, she was going to get the necklace once they placed it in the display case, she had everything planned. Her thumb rested on the ring she had on her index finger. It’d be lights out the moment she tapped on it, for only five minutes. Her eyes were fixed on the men; no slip up was allowed. Mr. Alfonse moved to the box placing his thumbs against the panel to unlock it. the people clapped and cheered as he did. The look on the Alfonse face was all she needed to understand her current situation. Someone had beat her to it but how? Alfonse had spared no expense, he had made sure there was no breach in his transportation, with 24hours high tech security and a top-notch compartment that could not be broken into, so how? If someone beat her to it, he wouldn’t be far off. She looked around trying to note anything strange. Alfonse fell to ground; anyone would be as confuse as he was now. The box fell from his hand and the crowd gasped. His head of security had taken charge. “Place the building on lock down” he roared. The people were beginning to panic. Lana didn’t move, her ears were much sharper than human’s, she had heard the sound of a jewelry the moment the box landed on the ground. She watched the box carefully, noticing the guards around, one had gone into a squat to pick up the box. She noticed him cautiously as he picked up something seemingly inexistent and placed it in his pocket. “An illusion spell” she hadn’t thought of that. “FIRE!!” someone screamed and the people went into disarray He wasn’t working alone; she rushed towards him pushing through the crowd– she wouldn’t lose him in the crowd. The man was down the podium, taking the opposite direction towards the boiler room and she followed swiftly behind. He was fast, definitely not human. She pushed open the door “Stop right there” she had her revolver pointed at him; she had managed to sneak it in thank to Mr. jacket. She smirked as she made her way towards the young man. He wasn’t alone so she was cautious. The man had his hands up and slowly turned toward her, a gas mask on his face. “I knew you’d follow me Lana” he grinned Her eyes became heavy and legs weak. Everything was a daze to her. “Screw you” she cursed as she collapsed to the floor.
