Chapter 23
Kris jerked awake. Her heart was pounding in her chest, her mouth was dry. For an instant, she forgot where she was – but then it all came flooding back to her. She was in the royal tent, at the center of the Shifter camp.
Still, knowing where she was didn’t make her feel any better. The sense of unease was still there.
“Tawni?” she called out. She hated that she had a servant assigned to her, but they’d spent most of the day getting to know one another while Korrin and Ruslo attended to royal matters. Kris had found out that despite their very different upbringings, they had a lot in common. Kris remembered Maria, her friend from school. She hadn’t thought about her at all since this all started.
But now wasn’t the time: there was no answer from Tawni.
