The Diamond family ( volume 1)

Chapiter 5 : The manor.

It had been a month since the girls and I had found the treehouse in the forest.

In the beginning, we had to hide the swords in the cave that we had found much earlier, a year ago now. The cave was not far from the hut, and it was also a few steps from the river.

Every day, Anna went into the forest to check if the hut was occupied by someone or not.

As for me, I seemed to be interested in my father's work in order to have information on recent murders or thefts to know if the swords were wanted.

Then, since he didn't seem to have any problem in town and we had been certain that the cabin was really uninhabited. Rhine and Rina had then decided to trade the two swords against small furniture for the small cabin.

This hut had become our secret place. We went there every day as much as we could to: chat, play, study and even to hide from our parents after a long argument with them sometimes.

We had all together lived memorable moments in this place. Our lives scrolled through it, even when each of us had become teenagers. We always go there often...

No one knew about the existence of this place except the four of us... At least that's what we thought...

On Sunday, January 6, 1994...

That day, I was in the cabin with the girls. We were discussing the things we had done for the Christmas party, as well as the New Year's party.

I was sitting not far from the ladder that led up to the cabin; since I was much too close to the door which was open. Something funny was about to happen.

- My group and I put on an unforgettable show at the church!, Anna told us.

- Yes, I saw... But there was nothing that interested me, said Rina teasingly.

- You know what I liked the most about the show?, I asked them.

- The free all-you-can-eat buffet?, asked me laughing.

- Yes! I said laughing.

We were all then laughing even more out loud.

Then Anna who was on my left saw that we were sitting in a circle in the cabin. She had hit me suddenly in a moment of giggles and this gesture made me step back, which made me fall backwards.

I had fallen...

Strangely, I thought I saw something in the distance.

The cabin was perched in a large tree which was quite tall. From up there, you could see everything: the river, the road leading to town and even a few small houses.

But what surprised me was this thing that I saw in the distance.

- Cassandra!, cried the girls coming down from the cabin at full speed.

Rina was freaking out that I was dying.

- Cheer ! Are you proud of yourself now? Rina said angrily to Anna.

- But I just gave him a little innocent pat, Anna justified herself.

- You were told more than a good number of times not to do that anymore, Rina was saying.

- Shut up!, shouted Rhine.

When I had come to my senses. I quickly went back up to the hut to check what I had seen.

The girls were worried about me seeing that I had hurt my knees. But the pain and the blood didn't worry me more than what I had seen.

The girls without understanding me followed me giving me help to climb the steps of the ladder.

- Look!, I said to them.

- What is it?, Rina asked me.

- Look, I said, pointing to something dark in the distance that was hidden by some trees.

- What?, she had asked me without seeing anything.

- Open your eyes! You are not blind are you? You're able to see what's in the distance just like me, I said to Rina.

And on my words... She fires something...

- It's... Is it really what I think?, Rina asked her twin sister.

"It's, it's my... The Diamonds' mansion," Rhine stuttered.

Following Rhine's words, Anna and Rina had to look for their telescope to see this famous mansion.

Anna, after seeing that it was indeed the Diamond family mansion. She accidentally dropped her telescope, which had slipped out of her hands.

- "How is it that we can see it? I'm sure something is wrong", thought Rhine.

- "Why are the girls all in this state?", I thought while looking at them. "Who could be the owner of this cabin? How come no one noticed this mansion, when it will soon be two years since we occupied this cabin? Could this cabin be at the Diamond? But who are they in the end?”, these were the questions that had been in my mind since that day.

But in reality, just seeing this mansion would change the course of my life.
