Naomi “Are you sure you don’t mind?” I asked Derek as we sat in the car. I was seated in the passenger seat next to him instead of in the back. “No, not at all,” he replied. I could tell he was uncomfortable, but I wasn’t about to sit in the back with my parents. I also wasn’t sure if they would actually come out. As the minutes ticked by, my anxiety grew. “Let’s give them an additional five minutes,” I said as I glanced at the time on the dashboard. Derek hummed but didn’t comment. Three minutes later, I heard a door open, and I looked over to see my parents coming out of the apartment building.
