Megan finished talking with Janice and turned around to say something to Lucy. She was surprised to find that her friend had left so fast.
“I guess Charlotte’s better company than we are.”
“I don’t believe it’s just Charlotte. Haven’t you notice how taken Lucy is with Sammy and Toby?”
“Now that you mention it, she is. So is Paul, for that matter. I can’t say I’ve ever seen him volunteer to coach a boy Toby’s age on baseball. He rarely has the patience. Both Lucy and Paul seem to enjoy having a couple of kids in the house.”
“They don’t have any kids of their own?” asked Aiden.
“No. They tried, but it just wasn’t meant to be. That’s part of the reason they were so eager to jump in and help me raise Emma. It’s a shame, too, they would have made great parents.”
