Chapter1: The Night the Sky Answered
Chapter One: The Night the Sky Answered The storm didn't roll in. It arrived. One moment, the world was still, quiet in that eerie, breath-held way, and the next, the sky split open like something ancient had been waiting to be unleashed. Thunder didn't crack; it roared, low and guttural, like a warning meant for more than just the earth beneath it. Sienna Vale tightened her grip on her coat as she stepped out of the hospital doors, the fluorescent lights behind her flickering as if even they were unsettled by what was coming. The air smelled wrong, sharp, electric, charged with something she couldn't name. She paused. Something deep in her chest pulled taut. Not fear. Recognition. And that alone made her uneasy. "You're just tired," she whispered to herself, brushing damp strands of dark hair from her face. Twelve-hour shifts had a way of making everything feel heavier, stranger... unreal. But this wasn't exhaustion. The wind picked up suddenly, violent enough to send leaves spiraling across the empty parking lot. The overhead lights flickered again—once, twice—before one burst with a sharp pop. Sienna flinched. Then froze. There it was again. That feeling. Like she wasn't alone. Her eyes slowly scanned the lot. Empty cars. Shadows stretching too long beneath dim lights. Rain beginning to fall in thick, deliberate drops. And then—lightning split the sky. For a fraction of a second, the world turned stark white. And in that instant, she saw him. Standing at the far end of the lot. Still. Watching. The darkness swallowed him again just as quickly as he appeared. Sienna's breath caught in her throat. "No..." she whispered, her pulse quickening. "No, that's not, there's no one there." But her feet didn't move. Another flash. This time, closer. He hadn't moved. But she could see him clearer now. Tall. Broad-shouldered. Unnaturally still. Rain fell around him, but somehow... it didn't seem to touch him. Her heart slammed against her ribs. Run. Every instinct screamed it. But her body betrayed her. Because something deeper, something buried, was pulling her toward him instead. The wind howled louder, whipping her coat around her legs. Another crack of thunder shook the ground beneath her feet. And then, he stepped forward. Just one step. But it felt like the entire world shifted with it. Sienna staggered back. "Stay where you are!" she called out, her voice sharper than she felt. He didn't answer. Didn't slow. Another step. The distance between them shrank. And with every inch he closed, the air grew heavier—thicker—like breathing through something unseen. Lightning struck again. And this time, she saw his eyes. Glowing. Not reflecting light. Emitting it. A cold, piercing gold that locked onto her like he'd been searching for her, for years. Her breath hitched. "No..." she whispered again, but the word trembled this time. Because something inside her responded. Not with fear. With certainty. You know him. The thought didn't feel like her own. Her pulse pounded in her ears as memories she didn't understand flickered at the edge of her mind, dreams, shadows, a presence she'd felt her entire life but never seen. Until now. He stopped a few feet away. Close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from him despite the cold rain. Close enough that she realized, he wasn't just watching her. He was studying her. Like she was something he'd finally found. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice barely steady. Silence stretched between them. The storm raged louder, as if urging something forward. And then— He spoke. Her name. "Sienna." Her entire body went rigid. She never told him. There was no badge visible. No introduction. Nothing. Yet he said it like he knew her. Like he'd always known her. "How do you know my name?" she asked, her voice dropping, fear creeping in now, real, undeniable fear. He tilted his head slightly, as if considering how to answer. But when he spoke, it wasn't what she expected. "It's time." Her stomach dropped. Time for what? Before she could ask, the ground trembled beneath her feet. Not from thunder. From something deeper. Something... beneath them. Sienna stumbled as the pavement cracked—a thin fracture spreading between them like a line being drawn. The man didn't move. Didn't even look down. His gaze never left hers. "Come with me," he said, his voice low, commanding, unchallenged. Every rational thought screamed at her to refuse. To run. To get as far away from him as possible. But her feet—moved. One step forward. Then another. "No..." she breathed, shaking her head, trying to stop herself. "No, I'm not, I'm not doing this." But her body wasn't listening. Her heart pounded wildly as something inside her awakened, something ancient, something powerful, something that had been waiting for this exact moment. For him. "I've waited long enough," he said, his voice softer now, but no less dangerous. Lightning struck again. Closer. Louder. And this time—the ground beneath Sienna gave way. She gasped as the pavement cracked open beneath her feet, her body dropping as the world tilted violently. Strong hands caught her before she could fall. Pulled her against something solid. Unmoving. Him. Her breath caught as her hands pressed against his chest, warm, impossibly firm, steady despite the chaos around them. For a moment, everything stilled. The storm. The noise. Even her thoughts. And then, his hand lifted. Fingers brushing just beneath her chin, tilting her face up toward his. Her heart stopped. Up close, his eyes were even more impossible. Gold. Glowing. Alive. "You feel it," he said quietly. It wasn't a question. It was a claim. And that terrified her more than anything else. "Let go of me," she whispered, though there was no strength behind it. He didn't. Instead, his expression darkened—something primal surfacing beneath the surface. "You don't understand what's coming," he said. Another tremor shook the ground. This time stronger. Closer. Something was rising. Sienna felt it. Deep beneath her feet. A force. A presence. And it was coming for her. Her eyes snapped back to his. "What is that?" she demanded, panic breaking through now. For the first time— he looked away from her. Toward the darkness behind them. And when he spoke again, his voice carried something new. Urgency. "They found you." Sienna's blood ran cold. "Who found me?" But she already knew. Because the ground split open behind her, and something moved within it. Fast. Hungry. Not human. She screamed as a shadow surged upward— But before it could reach her. The man pulled her against him. And everything went black. The last thing she heard before the darkness took her. Was his voice. Low. Possessive. Unyielding. "You're mine." And somewhere in the void, Something inside her answered back. To be continued...
