9. Crossroads

9 CROSSROADS Michael watched Small zooming about in the sky from the carriage window. It was the third time that the little dragon had tried flying that day, and each time, he had managed to keep it up for longer. At first, he could only stay in the air for about ten minutes, but this time he'd been flying for almost half an hour. He did one last loop the loop before speeding through the open carriage window and onto Michael's lap. 'You're getting much better,' Michael told him, stroking his scaly neck. 'I bet that soon you'll be able to fly for most of the day without getting tired at all.' 'He used to do that all the time,' Hokum said, reaching out her small, delicate hand and scratching behind the dragon's ears. Small purred at her, and left Michael's lap to sit on her's instead.
