Is then now?
Marley, that was her name and that was what she was. A girl of 16 enjoying the most simple things in life.
She was fair skinned as pale as warm snow with cheeks that tint like a lilac rose, her hair fell past her shoulders and traveled down her spine, falling fair and bright like a tangerine sunset on a summers morning as orange as the perfect crisp leaf on an autumns day. Her eyes as green as if brightest light reflecting of the smoothest, greenest emerald that faded gently into a deep diamond cyan.
The day was June 21st 1960, yes the middle of summer and Marley was sitting on the little wooden swing in her front garden.
Now when I say front garden I mean the entire world, well at least that’s what it looked like through Marley’s eyes. This was a girl who enjoyed the most simple but delightful things in life like the birds flying high above her, the wind blowing across the wheat field or the rain falling on to the big oak tree in the distance. Unlike the other children down the road Marley couldn’t give a care in world about the new hot wheels car or the brand new sparkling pink and purple easy bake oven even if it did cook real cookies!
No Marley was easier to please then that, give her a rope swing over a field of wheat in the mid summer and she’ll be speechless with joy.
Marley was not an only child, though between her and her thoughts she sometimes wished she was.
She had two brothers and one sister. Her brothers ,aged 10, were twins you see, the tweedle Dumb tweedle Dee kind, one called Oliver and the other Levi, though they seemed completely different and weren’t identical they were both equally annoying, her sister however seemed a little more mature and independent for her age, her age being twelve though I suppose at that time twelve was the new twenty her name Catherine and she was a stubborn as a moody cow but as creative as an artistic french chameleon.
They all lived with their parents Rosalie and Stanley with their two dogs sully and Marco and they all lived in a big old farm house with what can only be described as the best view in all of the world right out side their window, and our front the little road in their little village on their own little corner of the world.
They were happy here, Marley was happy it was an easy life in a simple time, there was no reason to be miserable or sad, this was a time where a square of chocolate after dinner was like getting the new and improved Mac book pro now.
Marley was what people would call now, an overthinker. She liked to think of it as a way to escape and explore from the tallest clouds to the deepest oceans of blue.
She called it dreaming. Not dreaming like falling asleep and imagining life as another but dreaming as in day dreaming, where she could live to the fullest but for now she would rather keep her thoughts safe, small and contained because she knew that if you go to far dreaming can be dangerous.
“Marley, Marley!”
She turned around from the stunning sun set view to see her best friend running towards her from behind the old wooden red barn yelling her name with the biggest smile across his face.
This was Sebastian, her neighbor and her friend not only for when she needed a shoulder to cry on or a partner in crime but like a brother from day one. The village always thought of this a some kind of Witchery because not only did they think alike but they were both born in the same clinic room but also born exactly 66 seconds apart at 6pm on the sixth of June so to be exact they were born on the sixth at six with sixty six seconds apart.
“Hello Sebastian, are you okay?” She asked looking confused yet smiling.
“Whatcha thinking?” Sebastian replied with a slow nagging tone but almost like he’s bragging somethings.
This was almost a game they played, they were both dreamers you we and they often liked to share their dreams with one another.
“Is then now?” She responded
“Excuse me” he called back with a laughable tone and a smirk alone his face
“You heard me, I was thing is then now? If we went back in time and then traveled back to now would then be now or would the future be now?
Or course they were both a little confused by this but some how they also knew what she meant and before either of them could come to speak anymore of this the weather broke free. Heavy downfall fell soon their dozy heads.
They raced inside as the earl grey clouds concealed the soft summer sky. This was very unusual considering it was the middle of Summer and less then a minute ago it was hot and fair weather but they took no notice of this and they race each other through the dancing wheat field giggling a screaming with joy like two toddlers laughing at a bumble bee. They looked at each other while running as if their life’s depended on it with the rain chasing them not far behind. The lightning started and the first boom of thunder sounded, they screamed and looked back with their feet still racing as if they had their own mind still laughing they had almost reached the house as Marley reached out at touched to grab the door handle it lit up as the biggest bolt of lightning in history reached down from the skies above and pointed down hitting the old hand throwing Marley and Sebastian back into the wheat field right over the back porch.
