One Hyde Park, Knightsbridge — London
Morning entered the apartment without noise.
Knightsbridge moved below in grey rhythm—cars, coats, glass, distance. Above it, One Hyde Park remained sealed away from everything unnecessary.
She was already awake, sitting at the edge of the bed, still and quiet.
On the other side of the room, he stood by the window.
No rush. No distraction.
A cufflink adjusted once.
“You’re awake,” he said without turning.
“Yes.”
Nothing followed.
Silence stayed exactly where it was.
He turned slightly, just enough to acknowledge her presence, then looked away again.
No expression changed. Nothing in him suggested effort or emotion.
She watched him anyway.
He no longer felt unfamiliar. Just fixed in place.
Husband. A legal truth, not an emotional one.
He had never blurred that line.
Not once.
His phone lit up.
He ignored it at first. Checked his watch. Then the time. Only then did he pick it up.
Order mattered to him more than urgency.
“Are you leaving early again?” she asked.
“Yes.”
No explanation.
She nodded anyway.
At the door, he paused.
“Don’t wait up.”
Then left.
The door closed cleanly.
And the apartment returned to silence that felt practiced, not empty
