Mark Tunde's first step was clear to him: find out who the lady that Vera sent the phone message to is. He will also see how he can interview Vera's friends, hoping to uncover something. The two officers left the police Chief"s office, closed the door to the office and walked through the station to Jane's car, entered and drove off. Again, Ambrose was outside the commissioner's office. He brought out his cell phone and put a call through. As Jane was driving, Mark's phone buzzed. “Superintendent Mark? Mr Lebari will like to see you at 2 PM today in his office,” said a voice. Mark jotted down the details and said OK. Meanwhile at Julie's Mansion, Nwito stared at Julie. The woman was trembling . "Do you know who I am?” Nwito asked, his voice very sharp. ' No I don't.' Nwito: It does not matter if you know me or not . I kill people for fun. But I’m here for information. I want to know who killed your friend Vera and why. I want to find her killer. Julie shakes her head, tears streaming down her face. " I dont know who killed her! She was my best friend!" " I can’t stop thinking about her," she continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "Vera was my everything. We did almost everything together and now she’s gone." "She easily fall in love." Julie continued, her voice cracking. "Even when I try to stop her in some of her love moves, she wouldn't listen. I believe, that love thing must have had a hand in her death. Mingling with the wrong people in the name of love ." Nwito: Love? Apart from Charlie, who else was her lover? My friend, Vera, was the kind of woman everyone noticed," Julie continued " She has multiple men, name them, Tony, Zubi, Charlie , Bob Kalada... Nwito: Bob Kalada? Julie: Yes! Nwito: The politician? Julie: Yes. Bob Kalada, a politician, married, with 2 kids. Their affair was her greatest secret. They were in love. She believed in him, thought he will actually get married to her. But someone in his circle noticed everything ." Nwito turns slightly, his sharp gaze on her "And?" Julie's hands were trembling. "They have been sneaking around for months. I think she wanted him to leave his wife. His wife was informed of the affair and threatened to kill her . The night she died she sent me a message. She said she was being followed and asked me to send security. But i got the message late" Nwito leans back, letting out a low whistle. " Bob of all people. Interesting." His mind racing. He was instructed to find the killer and erase him and that's what he intends doing even if it involves a Bob Kalada. Nwito steps back, "Stay in town, I will be seeing you again. The police will come looking for you too. Tell them all you know and get better protection," he says after a moment. "The killer might also come looking for you " When Julie looked back, Nwito was gone, his footsteps silent as he leaves the mansion. The mansion stood silent as Juliet sat trembling in her room and a knock on the door interrupted her. Alfred, a gate man entered, his expression tense. "Madam," he said softly, "there are two police officers at the front door. They wish to speak with you." "Did they give their names?" "No, Ma. But they seemed quite serious." "Very well. Take them to the parlour. Tell them I’ll meet them soon ." Supretendent Mark and Jane, the two police officers followed Alfred , the gate man through the corridors of the mansion. He pushed open the door to the parlour, stepping aside. "Please, wait here. Madam will join you soon." They sat on a sofa in the dimly lit parlour. Heavy curtains block out the weak morning light. Julie dressed in flowing white linen, steps into the room trying to force a smile. “Good morning, officers. How may I help you?” Her voice now calm. Mark: You are ? Julie: Madam Juliet Itakariari. Mark: We traced a message sent to a number by Vera Tor the night she was murdered . The message was sent to you. Do you mind telling us what you know about Vera and the message she sent to you? Julie nodded. "Yes... she was my friend. My closest friend." Mark: OK. Why did she send you the message? Julie: She sent me the message calling for help but I received it late. I was already asleep. Mark scribbled notes. "Did she mention anyone who might’ve hurt her?" Julie shook her head. "No, nothing like that." "But two nights ago," she whispered, tears coming down her eyes . "We had dinner. We.played and laughed. I never thought it would be the last time. She mentioned to me that Bob Kalada's wife called her on phone and threatened to harm her if she does not stay away from her husband'' The officers exchanged a glance. You’re saying Vera had received threats?" Jane asked, voice steady. Julie nodded. "Yes. From the wife of her lover." Mark raised an eyebrow. "The wife’s name?" "Evelyn Kalada," Julie said. "She found out about the affair. She called Vera on phone." She told her, ‘You are messing with the wrong woman. You will regret going out with my husband. I’ll make sure you disappear. I begged Vera to stop seeing him, but she wouldn’t listen." The officers exchanged a glance as Julie turned toward the window, hiding her tears. The parlour is neat, white walls, matching furniture, and decorative succulents arranged on the coffee table. Julie: Someone also threatened to kill me this morning over this matter right in my room.He just appeared at the door. I have never seen him before. He was covering his face and came with a gun threatening to kill me. He says he was after Vera's Killers. The two police officers exchanged looks across the parlour as her words hang in the air. "He was in my room,” Julie insists. “He bypassed all the security and he was standing at the foot of my bed with a gun" Jane raised a hand to steady her. “Hold on, Juliet. You’re saying an armed intruder broke into this house, got past three security doors, and simply left without pulling the trigger?” “Yes!” Jane: If this is true, then he wanted to send a message. Julie's breath quickened as she clutched Mark's notepad. "Please, you have to do something. I don’t feel safe anymore." Her voice faltered for a moment. "I don’t know what he might have taken from my room . I was too scared to move or look at him. Julie: When he was done, he told me the police will come for me, the killer might come too, get better protection. And then he disappeared. She sighed, her soft demeanor cracking. " what do I do? What if he comes back?" Mark: Start by replacing your security men. Get new ones and replace the locks. Here's my card. Call me if you remember something else. I will be keeping in touch . One more thing, avoid night activities for now.
