Elara was the wife they destroyed until she came back with everything they said she'd never have. Power, love and a family of her own. Now, the man who once called her barren kneels before the woman who rose from ruin. Because revenge isn't always loud. Sometimes, it looks like peace and the life they swore they'd never live.

Chapter 1
Welcome to Our House The morning light poured through the lace curtains, soft and golden, the kind that made everything look gentle even when it wasn't. I sat in front of the mirror, my hands resting on my lap, and my heart racing under the heavy silk of my wedding dress. I looked at my reflection, the smooth bun pinned perfectly, the pearls around my neck, and the faint pink on my lips. I looked like a bride, or so I thought I looked perfect. But inside, I wasn't sure I felt like one. "Breathe," my maid whispered behind me, smiling softly. "It's your big day."I nodded, forcing a smile. "Yes... my big day." The sound of laughter drifted from downstairs. The mansion was already full of guests, politicians, businessmen, women in glittering dresses. Everyone had come to see the perfect wedding of the wealthy heir, Damien Moreau, to a simple girl from an ordinary family. It was supposed to be a dream come true or at least that's what everyone said. But I stood up slowly as the wedding planner called my gown. The hallway smelled like roses and champagne. My heels clicked softly on the marble floor as I walked toward the grand staircase and then, I saw him. Damien, my husband to be. He stood by the altar at the far end of the room, looking handsome, tall and his smile was as calm as ever. His eyes met mine across the crowd, not warm, not cold but it was just... distant and a bit surprised. The music began, and I walked toward him step by step, my heart thudding against my ribs. When I reached him, he leaned close, his voice was quiet. "You're beautiful," he said. "Thank you," I whispered. "You do too." He smiled politely, then looked away. The ceremony was perfect, the vows, the photos, the endless congratulations. Everyone smiled for the cameras but I could feel something beneath it all, a chill that lingered even in the warmth of the lights. After the final toasts, his mother approached me. Mrs. Moreau was tall, elegant, and sharp-eyed. Her smile never reached her eyes. She kissed me on both cheeks, and the scent of her perfume was strong enough to sting. "Welcome to the family, dear," she said sweetly. "You're married well. "I smiled faintly. "Thank you, ma'am. I'll do my best to make you proud." The older woman's eyes flickered with amusement. "I hope so. This family has a legacy to protect. You'll learn your place soon enough. "Before I could answer, Damien's sister, Celeste, appeared, with her hair styled perfect, her lips were red, the kind of confidence that came with privilege. "Mother," she said, looping her arm through mine. "Don't scare her off just yet. Let her survive at least one night. "Everyone laughed, I tried to, too. But I could feel it, the shift I'm in, the unspoken challenge. Hours later, when the guests were gone and the lights had dimmed, I walked through the hallway of the mansion for the first time as its new mistress. The portraits on the walls stared down at me, there were generations of wards, all looking proud and untouchable. On turning back, I jumped onto Damien who took my hand. "Hey," he said softly, "don't look so nervous. This is our home now, ours." I smiled faintly. "It doesn't feel real yet. He leaned in, brushing his thumb along my jaw. "It will. I promise to you, Elara. I'll make sure of it." His voice carried something that made my chest ache and I thought for once that it might definitely be warmth, sincerity and love. Before I could answer, his phone buzzed. His face shifted as he looked at the screen. It's my mother," he said quietly. I looked away. "You should answer." He sighed, and pressed the phone to his ear. "Yes, mother." Even from a few steps away, I could hear her sharp voice. Asking if the wedding was really necessary. If I was really the kind of woman he wanted representing their family. Damien's jaw tightened. "Please don't start tonight. I love her, and that's final." There was a pause. Then, her voice rose again, bitter and cold this time. Damien's eyes flickered with frustration before he hung up. He ran a hand through his hair and came to me. "She'll come around," he said, trying to smile. I looked at him quietly. "Will she?" "I don't care if she doesn't," he whispered. "You're my wife, Elara and I choose you not them." The way he said it made my heart tremble and I wanted to believe him. That night, he held me close as if nothing outside that room existed. His warmth pressed against my back, and his breath against my neck. For a while, it felt safe, like love could drown out every cruel word ever said about me. The next morning, while Damien was at work, I received a call. Her voice came through the line and it was calm but cutting. "This is Mrs. Moreau," she said. "I hope you're comfortable in that house my son paid for. Enjoy it while it lasts. "I froze. "Mrs. Moreau, please–" "I don't know what you did to make him blind, but he'll wake up soon," she continued coldly. "And when he does, you'll be gone. I won't have a woman like you ruining our name." She hung up after her final words and my fingers shook as I lowered the phone. For a moment, the room spun and then, I sat down staring at the sunlight filtering through the curtains. When Damien came home that evening, he noticed instantly. "Elara, what happened?" I forced a smile. "Nothing, just tired." He took my hands, his eyes were soft but steady. "Don't lie to me, please." I hesitated, then whispered, "Your mother called." His whole body stilled. "What did she say?""That I don't belong." He exhaled sharply, then pulled me into his arms. "You do," he said fiercely. "You belong with me, don't ever let anyone make you doubt that." And in that moment, his heartbeat steady against my ear and I wanted to believe that love was enough to silence the world and even if the world was his own family.
