I dressed up nicely. It had been a while since I had glammed up. Probably since my miscarriage. I shaved my legs, curled my hair, wore my sexy black jump suit that showed my cleavage, paired it up with my diamond teardrop necklace and earring matching set Seb had bought me last year on Christmas. I added two golden bangles on my right hand and my watch on my left hand. I worn kitten heels, and did a light face of make up but a bold red lip. I liked how I looked in the mirror. You couldn’t tell how far deep in the gutters my mental health was. Nor could you see the bags that rested heavily under my eyes, thanks to the good quality concealer I wore. Somehow my mood lifted. I felt better. Almost like my old self. I hopped into my Lexus that Seb had gifted me on my twenty fifth birthday, right after my first miscarriage and drove to the city. Three years ago, Seb had been promoted to head IT financial analyst. He had gotten his own office and with it his own secretary. When I reached his office I found a new Secretary. I missed the old elderly one. She had probably retired. This one was young and pretty with blonde locks. She looked very eager to please with her big innocent lively eyes. I felt insecure at the sight of her. “Good afternoon.” I greeted. “Good afternoon.” “I’m Sebastian Hayes’s wife. Please tell him I’m here.” I tried my best to appear aloof so she’d think I was secure and confident, but I only succeeded into scaring and making her panic. “Hello Mrs Hayes. Uh…um….mister Hayes has stepped out with his gir—colleague…his business colleague. If you could wait for a moment, he will be back in a minute.” “Oh okay.” I tried to speak more gently. “I will wait for him in his office.” “Okay sure.” “This way please.” She escorted me, opening the door. Like I said eager to please. As I walked through his office snooping, I realized there was nothing of sentimental significance that showed Sebastian was married. No photo of us, no feminine touch to show the presence of a woman. Nothing. Just plain old mahogany, file cabinets, conference chairs and his work awards. I didn’t mind it. I opened the top draw of his desk. His wedding ring sat right on top of his files. I picked it up and looked at it, my heart skipping a beat. He had it on this morning. Even as he f****d Mrs Shire it was visible. A knock. A woman entered. “You must be Mrs Hayes.” I quickly hid the ring in my palm “Yes please.” She looked around my age. “Linda says you’re looking for Mr Hayes?” “Yes I am.” “Oh, he just left for the Moxie Restaurant on the next street, I’ve informed him that you’re here. He says you find him there. He is waiting for you.” “Oh thank you. And you’re?” “Please call me Molly. I was his fill in secretary before she arrived.” She gestured at the new secretary with her head. “I am the head secretary around here.” She held out her hand. I shook it. “Nice to meet you Molly, and thank you.” She smiled. “Oh, and Moxie is a bit hidden away so if you need directions, feel free to call me” “Can’t I just put it into the maps. You can but it’s a building within a building. So you will get led to the main building instead.” I handed her my phone to input her number. “Oh thank you. I’ll give you a call when I reach.” It was probably nothing. I’m pretty sure there was a perfectly good reason why Seb removed his ring. I put it back where I had found it and left.
