I found the building were Moxie was alright. True to Molly’s word, It was a multi unit story property.
I called her. She picked on the first ring like she’d been waiting for my call.
“Hello Molly. This is Mrs Hayes.”
“Oh. Hello.”
“So I’ve reached the property.”
“Okay. Take an elevator to the seventh floor.”
“Okay?”
“When you reach, from your right, walk three buildings over. You’ll see the name Moxie. It’s a small print so it’s kinda hard to miss.”
“Thanks Molly.”
“Oh anytime.”
I did as I was told. When I reached the seventh floor, I counted the buildings from the right.
Wow. Most of these looked like extremely private spaces, but made of glass. Like club rooms.
The first was an art space that looked more like a private studio. The second was a space that looked more like a*****e for fabric, or a place to store fashion pieces…I could not tell. The third was Moxie.
As I was about to look for its door, I saw Seb at one of the tables next to a glass wall. A two sitter that looked romantic and private.
Sitting to his opposite was a pretty red head.
I knew her.
Katie.
A family friend from back then. Well more like my younger sister Shirley’s best friend.
He caressed her face. She removed his hand from her cheek and gave it a series of kisses.
Seeing this scene, I felt a vital tether in my chest snap.
It was as if a jagged fault line had instantly torn my heart into two uneven tectonic plates, drifting apart in opposite directions.
He looked happy. Like when we were younger. Like before we were married…or when we first got married. I didn’t remember.
I had never made him look like that. At least during our marriage.
I backed away slowly and went to get the elevator. It was taking its time to load. So I took the stairs instead.
Seb was in love with Katie.
It was clear as day. But for how long? How long had he been seeing her?
I had this random memory from our wedding.
Seb stealing glances at Katie.
It had made me very uncomfortable considering as the bride, my groom’s attention was supposed to be on me.
I brought it up to Shirley.
“I dunno Shirley my groom’s attention was supposed to be on me but instead it was on Katie.”
Shirley had giggled like it was the most hilarious thing in the world.
“Em, every single man and woman’s attention was on Shirley. Red head with gorgeous hair, big knockers, tight green cleavage showing dress, what did you expect? Secondly Seb is so Obsessed with you. I think he’d give his heart for you if it meant saving your life. He’d literally die for you.”
I’d let it go thinking maybe I was just being insecure.
But see the thing is—and I am pretty observant—no one was giving Shirley any attention except Seb.
All eyes were on me—except his.
I too was very pretty that much I knew. At least then. Thick jet black hair, a petite curvaceous frame and even bigger breasts than Katie. I also had plump lips and gorgeous striking blue eyes that complimented my fair skin so well.
Back at high school and college, every single man wanted a piece of me and every woman wanted to either be me or kill me.
Molly.
I dialed her number. She picked on the first ring. Again. Like she had been anticipating it.
“Did you know?”
Silence.
“Molly?” I whispered, out of energy.
“Did. You. Know?”
“Yes.”
“Did you want me to catch my husband being unfaithful?”
“Yes.” A pause. “Both to you and me.”
“I’m sorry?”
“You may have been his wife but I was his lover.”
This f*****g b***h.
“Why?” I asked leaning against the wall. I was feeling extremely faint.
“I don’t know. I think I’m hurting too. I loved him.”
I scoffed.
“Loved him. You didn’t know he was married?”
“I did.”
I wanted to yell at her. Call her names. Tell her what a cheating home wrecking slut she was. But my mind was blank. My heart was bleeding.
She wasn’t the only one Seb was cheating on me with anyways.
“How long has he been seeing her?”
“For a while now. Like a year.”
I sighed.
“Listen Mrs Hayes. I didn’t mean to hurt you. But I figured you might be in the dark. You deserved to know. How you decide to take it is up to you.”
I scoffed again, raging building up in me. Then hang up.
By this time I was on the fifth floor. I decided to go back and confront Seb and his mistress.
I was going to cause a scene.
