Chapter one : The Message in the dark
At exactly 2:17 a.m., Kai Carter woke up for no reason, not because of a sound, not because of a dream. Something felt wrong in the air, like the world had paused for half a second and restarted. He sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes. His room was dark except for the faint glow of streetlights slipping through the curtains. Everything looked normal. Until his phone turned on by itself. Kai frowned, he reached for it, the screen was already unlocked, which made no sense. He tapped it once, then twice no response. Then the TV in his room clicked on. Static filled the screen. Kai froze. “Okay… that’s not normal.” He swung his legs off the bed slowly, like sudden movement might make things worse. The TV stopped staticing. Then every device in the room lit up at the same time. Phone. Tablet. Old broken laptop. Even his smartwatch, the one that had stopped working months ago after falling into a river. All of them displayed the same message: WE FOUND YOU. Kai’s heartbeat slowed, not because he was calm, but because his brain was struggling to process it. “What… is that supposed to mean?” he whispered. For exactly three seconds, the message stayed. Then everything shut down. Silence returned. Kai stared at the dark screens,he waited for his brain to tell him it was a glitch, a hack, a prank. But then something outside changed, he walked to the window. The sky over the city was usually steady—stars scattered like distant dust. But tonight… the stars were moving not randomly, not like falling meteors. They were shifting slow, deliberate, like something enormous was adjusting them. Kai’s mouth went dry. “That’s impossible…” He pulled out his phone again, but it was dead. Completely dead, no battery, no power, nothing. Except his smartwatch. It vibrated. Kai blinked. The watch was cracked. It hadn’t worked in months, but now it glowed softly. A map appeared on its screen. A single blinking dot pulsed outside the city. Abandoned Observatory – 27 km Kai stepped back like the watch had bitten him. “No way", the map zoomed in by itself. A countdown appeared under it: 01:59:59 Then smaller text appeared: DON’T LET THEM REACH IT FIRST Kai swallowed, “who is ‘them’?” As if answering him, the stars outside shifted again. One of them detached from the sky. It was brighter than the rest, it wasn’t falling, it was descending. Slowly, purposefully. Like it knew exactly where Earth was, Kai backed away from the window, his phone suddenly turned on again, but this time ringing loudly,he almost dropped it. Caller ID: MAYA He answered immediately, “Maya? Are you seeing this?”Her voice came through fast, shaky. “Tell me you saw the message.” “I did. What the hell was that?” “It wasn’t just a message,” she said. “Kai… the stars are moving", Kai went silent. “So it’s not just me", “no,” Maya whispered. “It’s everyone, people are screaming outside. Every screen in the city showed it.” Kai looked out again. The bright descending object in the sky was closer now, bigger and clearer. It looked like a silver tear in the atmosphere. “Maya,” he said slowly, “something is coming down here.” There was a pause, then Maya said something that made his stomach drop, “My smartwatch turned on too.” Kai froze,“It’s broken,” he said, “Not anymore,” she replied. “And it’s showing a map.” Kai looked at his own watch again. Same map. Same blinking location. Same countdown. Both devices were synced. Across distance. Across networks. Across reality itself. Kai felt something shift inside him, fear turning into something heavier, understanding “This isn’t random,” he said, Maya’s voice was barely audible now. “Kai… I think we were chosen.” A loud crash echoed in the distance outside Kai’s house, sirens began to rise across the city. The sky brightened, the silver object broke through the clouds, and the countdown on Kai’s wrist dropped by one second. 01:59:58 Kai tightened his grip on the watch, "then we find out why,” he said, and for the first time in his life, he stepped into a mystery bigger than Earth itself.
