Chapter 7

1977 Words
Alice wondered who could be texting her in such a period, so she raised up her phone to read the name of the sender, and as it wasunexpected, it caught her aback! “Holy s**t! Oh God, oh my God! Not again…” she exclamated in utter surprise. “What’s is about again? What’s wrong? Don’t just scare me out of nowhere please calm down.” Sheila pleaded. “It’s him… the stalker. He just sent me a text message.” Alice said. She could barely contain the shock and panic as she read the message. “I know it’s unusual but I really don’t see any reason why you should freak out this much. He’s just a human like you so just keep your calm… you don’t need any of these.” Sheila told her, quickly, to enable her calm down. “I don’t think it’s okay to calm down. Yes… he’s a human like me, but he isn’t an ordinary one at all, his threats are never empty. He is powerful and influential. I am totally encaged in his box already.” Replied Alice, in absolute fear and trepidation. Sheiler covered her face with her palm and heaved out a heavy sigh. She did not know what else she could do to make her quit her exaggerated reaction. “How about you just kill yourself? Here, I mean, like… how about you commit suicide?” Sheila asked sarcastically. “What do you mean by that? Don’t be ridiculous. There is absolutely no way I would do that!” She cried out. “Exactly, you can not commit suicide nor kill yourself, but having a high blood pressure and over anxious soul can indirectly kill you, a lot faster than you could ever expect it to. So no matter what happens, you just have to keep your calm, or indirectly, you’ll be killing yourself.” Sheila gently responded. She knew her response would surely hit her good enough. “You’re right. I should keep my cool as much as possible, but hear me out Sheila… I think the best decision here is to make you stay away from me, as much as possible. It’s sad that I can’t explain with my mere words, I just wish you would understand. It’s looking like you are the stalker’s target in dealing with me.” She said. “Urgghh… here we come again… you’re just being anxious that’s all. I just feel like hitting you really hard.” Said Sheila in a comic manner as she laughed lightly after putting through that statement, even though deep down in her she was just forcing it. “Don’t laugh, uh! Don’t laugh at me!” Alice replied. “Unless you won’t trust me if I say this… I will deal with all of these, and that’s for sure. You just wait and watch carefully.” She said, as she hastily picked up her phone and started to place a call at someone. Alice just silently watched sheila to see what she was pulling off. The phone of the other person she was calling rang and they both heard the sound from her own phone, patiently, and twice as she tried, but the person was not picking up. “Who is it that you’re calling? Maybe I can help trying with my own phone.” Alice asked. “Nope, no need for that. I’m sure he’s not with his phone and that’s why he’s not picking up. Besides you do not have his number. It’s my new boyfriend.” She quickly answered. “Oh, oh. Sorry for looking nosy or something. I just wanted to know if I could assist in any way.” Alice replied with a rather dull face. “Come on! You don’t need that, absolutely not. It’s just right for you to know who it is.” Sheila replied, trying to keep keep Alice’s emotion good. “Lest I forget. I think… no I’m sure you’ve told me about this boyfriend some while back. That’s good actually. Even though I haven’t met him yet.” She said quietly in her mind. “Oh, hey is it the same cutie you told me about?” Asked Alice. “Yeah yeah. It’s him. Do you by any chance know him?” Sheila replied, as she indirectly just answered a question with another question. “Nope, I don’t. And I don’t even think we have ever met. Would you not consider introducing me to him some day? I would love to see him.” Alice said, wearing in her face a smile that revealed most of her teeth already. “Yeah, that’s not a problem. I would surely do, one day. And that’s a promise.” Sheila vowed. “And about the stalker! What makes you extraordinarily frightened when it comes to his subject? How sure are you that’s it’s not just empty threats he’s making?” Sheila asked, wondering by herself. “He was my boss for Gods sake. My former boss, and I know him quite very well. He is a man of his words, neither does he make empty promises nor empty threats. And I’m even scared to let you know just how dangerous he can be. And also, I’m even suspecting that he might be from the underworld.” Alice said in fear. “What makes you think like that? That’s scary!” She quickly replied. “He sure is scary. He has done a lot of other crazy things that makes it look like he is from the underworld.” Alice told. “Oh Lord, that makes him despicable and formidable. I don’t think the police can handle people of his kind. Maybe they can, but it would be one hell of a job… damn it!” Sheila exclamated, unconsciously showing out her fear, to Alice. Alice mad a long loud sigh after she heard Sheila’s reply. She was supposed to be consoling her but now she’s only adding fuel to the fire. “Now there ain’t no way I won’t be going back. You can see yourself how unsafe it is now not to follow his instructions right?” She cried. “No no… don’t get me wrong. There will surely be something we can do about it. After all he is not a god, he is just a fellow human.” Sheila said, with another attempt to console her again and cool her head to some extent, but it wasn’t giving too much help. The fear was already getting the better of her. “you should see it! There is almost nothing you or anyone else can do to stop him from me. Till you find what to do, I’ll surely go back to his place. See that? Even the police are most likely not to get hold of someone like that. I’d better go back before it’s too late.” Alice cried continuously. She did not want anything to happen to people that were so dear to her. “You should not be thinking like this, to be honest. This is absolutely not the ‘you’ that I’ve always known. You used to be the strong and genuine type but look at you now… just a man has instilled so much fear in you. Well… you can say whatever you want to, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s only natural for you to fear and so it’s my responsibility to keep you in the right path. You shall not return to him.” Sheila said to Alice, with a stern and sober face and a really mean voice. While they were at this, Sheila’s phone began to ring, and so she quickly had to excuse herself. “Sorry… I think I got a call. So give me just a couple of secs.” Sheila pleaded. “Come in, do you really need an excuse for that?! It’s okay to just pick it up.” The latter replied. As sheiler and the caller continued to speak, Alice could not help but wonder how all of these came to become so bad for her. “Now I know I should never have hit him back then, regardless. It’s all my fault that I took the law into my own hands and so he has decided to hunt me so much as vengeance. That’s sad!” She thought to herself. “I shouldn’t even have gone to his office that day. I could have just stayed on my own lane… but… yes. He was the one that called for me and so there’s sure to be trouble if I had not gone to answer. And for this, the blame remains his own. He should not have called me into his office just for his dirty intentions.” She thought again. She shook her head and just heaved a sigh. The thoughts of the happening kept on rushing into her memory, making her remember every single moment of it so vividly like it just happened some few moments back. She started to wonder that if she had declined to go and meet him in his office that faithful day, then she might have been safe and free from all of these bother she was being subjected to at that point. Even though she later freed her mind from guilt, she still was as scared as ever. She thought she was forced to defend herself from a r****t’s action and that’s all. “I should probably just call the state’s police department. They should be capable enough to handle something like this. But hell, no! What if they end up not being able to? The craziest part is that he might even have got some crazy connections with them. You can never tell. There ain’t no way I’m telling anyone else. I can’t leave my little Sheila and mum in danger.” She sighed. She was already so confused and thoughtless. She did not know which way to go further or the next thing that was proper for her to do. She was also unsure about the job she just got. She did not know if she should just stay away from the environment totally, or she should just try to seek protection from the new employer. Sheila on the other hand, was still on the line, talking to her boyfriend, explaining to him how everything happened and how it went. “And now she’s lost, getting too scared. She doesn’t even want to take her new job. We’d better do something to at least get her assured.” Sheila said, speaking to the person at the other end of the line. “You can rest easy. I have started my investigations already and every single detail shall be paid attention to.” The man replied. “Aww… thank you so much. I know you were always capable of most things most men are incapable of. Thanks a lot.” Sheila said to him, with an extravagant smile. “Oh nah… no need for ‘thanks’. You’re welcome. Though you should not you’re going to pay me back.” He flirted playfully. As Sheila heard this, she just suddenly laughed out loud for a few seconds. She already understood. “Well… I might not be able to meet up for dinner as we have fixed, alright? We will do it another day. For now I have to remain with my friend. Are you okay with that?” Asked Sheila. “I sure am. I understand fully well that that’s what a true friend would do. We will have it another time… so bye for now.” He responded. “Byyeeee… I’ll miss you…” she wined, at Steve, waving at her phone as though they were on a video call. It was then that they hung up.
