It was on a sunny day, marked in by the radiant sun of the early summer. There were no atmospheric breeze as it was all static, even though the temperature was not as high as it could be predicted for such a sunny day.
Even at this, the two figures who were in the office standing at each other did not find it cool at all, and the fact that they were under the frost like effect on low temperature in the room, brought upon by the high quality air conditioners made it a silly paradox.
It was looking like the two figures in the office were so lost arguing about something rather toxic, or probably they were quarreling or something else, whatever it was, the girl was already raising her voice too loud and it was starting to look rude on presentation to the other figure, who was a calm looking gentleman.
“You don’t even know what others feel, and you don’t seem to want to know. As a man, have you not even learnt that these are important things you should have learnt in the early stages of your life?” She said out loudly, blowing hot on the man.
Her name was Alice, a moderately tall girl with dark hair and ocean blue eyes.
She stood at akimbo, very eager to hear what he was going to say in response. His own name was Evans.
“Would you not live to watch what you say, girl? That’s all I might have for all the jargons you’ve just said. Watch what you say.” The gentleman said, with a stern look on his face. That expression was especially to tell that he could not tolerate getting such ridiculous remarks from girls, especially those that were below him, like her.
“Well, sorry vid I’m not sounding like one of your servants or other lowly ones you intend to play around. You simply just act pompously around because you are privileged, and you just want to boss everyone around whether it is liked by them or not! Ain’t it?” Alice replied, not putting into consideration what he just warned her about.
It had happened that Alice was already feeling too annoyed about the stalker who kept on bothering her, which made her absolutely unable to endure Evans’ taunts.
“Whaaat, tha… oh geez. What the hell does this mean?” Evans thought in him. He did not understand why she suddenl started to talk like she’s out of her mind.
He did not also know how to react to her outburst as he could never have expected her to react that way, since it was a job she had come to apply for.
Evans finally realized that she had a bad temper, a really bad one, and he did not like that at all, especially when it came to women, but he did not want to deny her the job opportunity just because of that.
“I can’t imagine what kind of ticking time bomb I have brought into my life! For real…” he wondered quietly, especially since he already told the secretary to inform her that she got the job already.
After reimagining the show she just put off, he could not just let it go so easily, as for he himself was not a calm person either.
So he immediately retaliated.
“I never knew you were not indifferent from the other fools we got out there, just look at your unreasonable self! I am actually displeased to see that you are taking out your anger on the innocent ones. You should deal with your anger yourself and stop expecting everyone to feel sorry for you.” Evans told her in an angered mood and in a disrespectful voice.
“Wha… wha… don’t you…” Alice stammered in an attempt to defend herself, but her brain failed her.
Before she could even complete her sentence or make any sense out of it, Evans had cut in rudely.
“Just shush you mouth. I can’t afford to waste any of my precious time exchanging words with the likes of you anymore.” He cut in curtly, leaving her in the dust. And immediately he was fine with his words, he turned around and walked out on her.
She was so pained and devastated, and she felt a huge pinch of humiliation in her tiny guts after he left her there standing, she had no other choice and so she got angrier.
“Holy s**t! I can’t believe he just said all of that and walked out without any ounce of remorse. Or maybe I was I was really sounding like a fool? Absolutely no! He started it in the first place. Ahh…” Alice complained bitterly in her head.
She at least felt a little bit of relief when he left since she would have no cause to stress herself any longer, but just then did she remember the one that was stalking her.
“Can it really get worse? Cause already I’m tired of these all. I don’t even know what to do next or where to go. It’s just… uh!” She sighed in agony as she just got more concerned about the stalker that kept on bothering her.
“There is absolutely no way I’m giving up, eww! What the hell am I thinking? I can’t go back to being miserable, so let the son of anyone do what might please him.” She said very silently.
She put herself together, and with a slow and gentle pace, walked through her way to the waiting room. She thought she could just try her best not to speak to anyone, not even the secretary who was nice to her from the start, till she left the office. But then when she got to the waiting room, she heard someone call out on her.
Maybe it wasn’t her name that was being called, but her instincts automatically told that it was her the person was calling on.
“Hey… hey!!! Lady… hello miss…” the voice called out, trying its best to reach at her but it simply could not remember the name of the person it was calling out on. Or maybe did not know the name at all.
Alice wanted to ignore and just leave, but she thought it was the bad idea for what the person had for her might be actually nice!
In an attempt to give a response, she turned her head to her right hand side since that was where the voice seemed to be coming from, and she saw that it was the secretary who she had met earlier.
“Oh, no wonder the voice was sounding so familiar.” She thought o herself.
“It’s just you, oh what’s up? Anything?” She asked with a fake smile.
“Nothing much, just want to tell you that according to Mr Evans, you have been given the job. And you shall be started your full duty tomorrow. Do you get that quite alright or is there any part of it you would want me to repeat?” The secretary asked, with a smile on her face, to confirm if she actually got the information very well.
“Oh, oh, wow! That’s great… I very much understand and I am so glad. Thank you so so much for your efforts.” Replied Alice, with a wide smile on her face to show that she was happy to hear it, even though it was all fake and pretense.
She was happy she got the job, but at the same time was not happy that she got it. The harsh duality of her emotions at that moment could not be comprehended by anyone because even her did not know exactly how she was feeling.
“Do you need any help, or you’re leaving already?” The secretary asked Alice.
“Nah, I’m good. I’m taking my leave.” She replied her, as she continued to move her way out of the office.
“To believe he still gave me the job… he must have been really impressed with my qualifications, or he probably has an ulterior motive who knows.” She wondered.
“Nah it should not be. He certainly does not seem like the rest of them, at the least he is relatively disciplined, and obviously is not a pervert.
Whatever it might be, I’m greatful though, but it seems like it would be a waste.” She muttered, after which she sighed.
She was already on her way home. She could not help herself to stop thinking about the stalker and all that he is likely to cause, and she also could not help herself to think properly enough to know what to do next.
“There isn’t anyone I could tell about this. Actually there are couple of persons I could tell but about this… no one would want to help.
I’m … ugh! I don’t know what’s next.” She complained
“Sheila is sure to know about it sooner than later, but I would not like to bother her with any of these. She’s also got burdens, so God help me.” She said to herself. She picked out her phone from her handbag and turned it on.
“Such a drag!… it’s a pity that she would have to help me out on this as well.” She uttered, running her fingers of her left hand through her dazzling black hair, and using her right hand to operate on the phone.
She opened the messaging app and started to text Sheila;
“Hey… fav. I’m already on my way home. Good news is, I got the job, but I’m really disturbed right now, and I can’t think of any other thing than that I should send a mail to the company… telling them that I would not be coming any longer.
The stalker is not joking even in the slightest, and so we must just follow the orders. Or what ya think?” She typed, and sent it immediately she was done cross checking.
Not long after, Sheila also texted back, and that was when they began to chat.
“What’s wrong with you huh? Do you even know what you’re saying at all, or what does this mean? I can’t believe you could have actually thought of that, and I’m sad that you can ever get to suggest that. Come on!” Sheila snapped angrily.
Alice also knew that Sheila would not like that suggestion due to her efforts and contributions, so she just tried to calm her down, even though she did not expect her to react that much.
“Little girl don’t make me sadder than I already am. You’re the only one I’ve got so don’t pull this off.” She said in a pitiful tone.
“It’s okay. It’s surely going to be okay, but you should not get pessimistic for any reason.
You should always try to move further on to new things and new risks no matter who tries to threaten you to give you a setback.
Just imagine how much effort you put into getting this job and imagine letting it slip by so easily… got it?” Sheila said calmly, with an intention to motivate Alice.
“I can’t describe the pressure I’m subjected to right now. But I’m really sorry for making you mad earlier. I just don’t know what to do.” Alice said somberly.
Sheila notices the level of depression Alice’s voice so she just decided to urge her to come home before they get to continue their discussion.
“Just calm down alright? We’ll continue with the rest when we meet. Also, so not send that mail you initially thought of sending. This job is a rare one and is utterly uneasy to find. So just calm down and come straight home as soon as possible.” She urged.
“Okay… already on my way… bye!” She said, after which she hung up.
Not long after, she got home just to find out that Sheila was already waiting for her.
“Hey, yo! Now… why are you not at work? What are you doing at home?” Alice asked in surprise and concern. It was obvious that she was supposed to be at work and not at home.
“It’s nothing of a big problem. Initially, I’m to go for dinner today, so I just came home to dress and make up for it, as since you told me about what happened, I decided to wait for you. I just could not help it.” She replied.
“Oh well… thank you for the care, so much. I can’t appreciate you enough.” She said with a graceful smile. Just when Sheila was about to reply, Alice heard the notification bell of her phone as it rang.
She knew she had gotten a text message, but from who?
