Chapter 3: Breakfast Shenanigans

714 Words
The smell of food poured out from the kitchen. In it was applewood smoked bacon, scrambled egg with cheese, french toast. The head of the kitchen, Mr. Iselow was a master at his craft. The man made the simplest recipes taste like they were from a Michelin 5 star restaurant. His wife, Irene, was his partner in everything. She was amazing as well, though she preferred experimenting with baking goodies and organizing the kitchen and omegas. She was our head of Omegas. She smiled widely as I trotted down the stairs. "Guess what lovey?"  "Mrs. Iselow, please tell me it's cinnamon rolls. I would fight someone over those right about now." "Those who wake up early get them fresh, and unfortunately the pans were practically licked clean this morning." "WHY DO YOU WOUND ME SO MRS.ISELOW?" I said dramatically while placing my wrist against my forehead and leaned onto the counter.  "Because I'm not old enough to be called Mrs. Iselow. But no need to fight someone for theirs. Don't let your parents see you with that." She passed me a plate with a wink.  Mr. Iselow glanced over with a smirk and just shook his head. They had been together for 15 years, around the same age as my parents. They were good people, and you couldn't help but smile watching those two and how enamored they were of each other.  I plopped down at a table in the dining hall, mentality preparing for the rest of the day. Before I could sink my teeth into the first roll, I could hear the tap of my mother's heels. I slid myself under the table, thank goddess my mother prefers long table cloths and decided to wait it out. Tap, tap, tap, tap…."Celeste?" "Are you shooting for a new record for hiding under things today?" Shit. "No Thomas, but please. Can't I have one thing this morning for myself. Just one?" I hissed as he schooched closer. "Sure, but you know she'll find you before you can finish those. Or I could help if you wanted to share. Or I could go ask mom…" "I'm sorry" I whispered, more towards the golden swirl of heaven than my brother, and stuffed my mouth with one before grabbing the second on my plate and shoving it into Thomas's mouth. He tried not to choke while I tried to stifle my laughter.  "Tried to kill your next alpha with a pastry huh?", Thomas said after he caught his breath.  "You have to admit it wouldn't be a bad way to go out, long as Irene made it.", as I split the last cinnamon roll and handed him the other half. Where would I be without my partner in crime? Thomas POV I enjoyed what time I had with my sister like this. She was trying to lick the icing from the side of her mouth with a goofy grin. She helps bring me back with these little escapes, and reminds me to enjoy the little things. I had been going nonstop lately with training after training, as well as accompanying my parents on treaty signings. Cel was the one person I could feel like myself with besides some of the other ranked member kids. Without the alpha title looming over me. I did want it, don't get me wrong. I saw how my parents ran things but I wanted to do it better. But the challenge also came with the distance people put up. Soon I would need to announce my Beta and Gamma. I hated the idea of not having my mate here before this. I gathered up myself and Cel from under the table soon as the clicking of high heels receded upstairs. "I have to go help Dad with some work in his office, you should find Mom and get whatever she wants done and over with." Celeste's face dropped before c*****g a brow. I knew that look. It usually didn't end well with our parents but Máni already began to stir. Damn it. But I knew she probably needed it more now than ever, hell I needed it too.  I let out a long sigh before my lips curled into a smirk.  "Yeah we can go for a run"
