Chapter 2: Wake Up Call

9 months earlier. You need to hide. Quickly. He’s coming.  Oh come on, 5 more minutes.  That is what I'm trying to give you, you i***t. Move your lazy ass!  As soon as Thea said that, I heard feet stomping up the stairs and down the halls. What time is it? I scrambled over the bed searching for my phone. I really didn't want to be in trouble this morning. I slid smoothly under the black bedframe, and tried to pull the comforter down slightly to help cover the gap. I heard some fumbling behind the door's lock before it creaked open. I could see the black boots march to my side of the bed.  Hold your breath, Thea whimpered.  The boots then turned towards my closet.  Well found your phone.  There, between the edge of my bed and nightstand laid my plugged in phone. s**t I probably knocked it off in my sleep. The boots turned towards the door, so I slowly reached for it, not before a message sounded and lit up my screen.  I know you're in here.  In a flash the boots were at the bottom of my bed and two hands clamped down on my ankles and dragged me out into the open. The scream ripped from my throat before I could stop it.  "THOMAS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" My brother folded over laughing. "Awe come on Cel you know I couldn't help it. Besides, it's payback for jumping out of the pantry last weekend after the scary movie marathon." That's fair, Thea chuckled. No wonder you weren't as helpful, I thought back. Thomas is my older brother. He's not much older than me at nineteen, while I've turned eighteen two weeks ago. He still hasn't found his mate, though there's never an end to the girls trying to fling themselves on him to slow down his search for his mate. He's good looking. Clear sun kissed complexion, hazel eyes, and curly brunette hair like our mother. I'd like to think we have the same complexion, though mine is riddled with some scarring. My hair is a bit darker, almost black, and my eyes are dark grey. I have more of an athletic build, while I may be wolfless, I refuse to be weak. Thomas and I antagonize each other, but he’s my best friend besides Raven. Raven is off on studies. Her and I got along quickly as she also isn’t a wolf. She’s a witch, adopted into the pack. If anyone gets me, she does. And of course I love my parents as well, but as Alpha and Luna, they have to focus more on their duties and alliances with other packs than the family at times. Thomas is more understanding than I am, as he is the next in line for the pack.  "Mom sent you up didn't she?" I asked, already knowing the probable answer. Any time a pack came to visit, Mom liked to make sure I looked appropriate. Granted it was the quality time with her that I craved, I just wasn't fond of the reasoning being for finding a potential mate. While normal werewolves had a destined mate, that's only if they could shift when they hit puberty, so that when you turned eighteen, you were on track to find your destined love. While I talked to Thea, I never shifted. The pack doctors aren't even sure Thea is real, as they say they can't sense that part of my spirit without the shift. Those who don't shift, don't find their destined...I've come to terms with it. My mother on the other hand worries about me.   "Actually, it was Dad this time." Thomas said, followed by a deep sigh.  "Dad?" I whispered. "Since when does he jump into this?" "He's worried about you. I am too. You have been throwing yourself even more into training. You know we just want you to be happy." "But I'm happy here." I retorted. "I love sleeping in, I love climbing late at night. Sneak up to the roof and watch the moon and stars, fighting and training..." "Cel, you know you have to be careful doing that. Someone could try to hurt you, or you could hurt yourself." "I haven't hurt myself in a good 3 months, and you know it means the world to me Thomas. I have to be able to defend myself without shifting, plus you promised you'd keep helping." "Since when?" "Since you're my brother and I'm your favorite sister." "You're my only sister genius, I don't have much of a choice. But, tell you what. I'll help you spar tonight if you promise to be civil when the visiting packs come this month, and hurry up with getting ready. I'm really tired of Mom and Dad breathing down my back to get you to realize they care and are only trying to do what's best." "Fine." As he got up to leave the room, he turned and smiled. It calmed my nerves a bit knowing he'll be there to distract me from the chaos that was already in progress.
