Chapter 33: Surpassing a demi-god

1082 Words
Everything Arion had contrived within his head spiraled like wildfire and was replaced by the idea of death itself. For someone who had tasted the bitter end of demise, he would never like to experience it again. "This is nothing... so first of all... Adriel!" Arion called the alchemist in their party. He undertakes the frontline so he would protect both of his companions no matter what happens. "What now? Shall I begin attacking this Field Boar?" Adriel questions. She tries moving forward but he threw a glass vial he had hidden in his pocket and shouted. "No matter what happens from now, don't attack nor move there! I want you to promise me that you shall protect Lilith no matter what." "What gives? You're scaring me off–" She was about to step forward but she halted upon seeing the most serious peer he could dispense. The blue eyes that convey the urgency of the circumstances, it was the eyes of a man who find resolution at the end of nothingness. Adriel believed him and stepped back, she also made sure Lilith would never be exposed in jeopardy. "Arion... we must escape now!" Lilith pleaded, of course, he would never listen. Nothing was happening yet and the stake was placed at a higher threshold. Arion began to assail the Field Boar with everything he had, with every knowledge he could offer, and with every martial arts technique he learned; he applied them altogether not to buy them time and escape, and rather he would face the adversary head-on without fleeing. Thrusting forward while his hand is straight as his eyesight, Arion sweeps his arm downward in an attempt to perform a stunning head-chop; a technique that overwhelms the opponent turning the duel into a battle of attrition. Though Arion doubt he had enough endurance but it was the best move right at that moment since it costs less energy. "Got you!" A strike meant to end the hunt, the Field Boar quickly evaded faster than a horned rabbit. All the speculations and calculations Arion had were proved to be correct that the monster they were currently facing isn't an ordinary beast. Monster: Field Boar Type: C-Class HP: 188 MP: 55 Wisdom: 1% Strength: 4% Dexterity: 2% Luck: 0% No matter how many times he looked at the navigation panel above the head of the Field Boar, he could tell the moves it shows don't match its status. He also remembered that his girlfriend can hide her name on the party panel, so he figured out maybe monsters could also hide their identity in the same process. But it was unlikely since they don't possess the knowledge and rational thinking. "This is tough... still, can you dodge this?" Arion leaped from where he was standing capitalizing the fact his Mechanical Exoskeleton could be used that way. He simply sprung the carapace of the soles and jumped straight to the monster. Accumulating enough force on his right fists, he performed a demolition punch meant to knock down the target. Arion perceived the boar would dodge so he switched from his fist to his legs and as soon as his hands meet the ground, he swerved his right foot doing a side kick mid-air. The boar received the impact of the kick and was sent flying on a nearby grass field. Arion chased it down all the way so Lilith and Adriel followed his way. "What amazing reflexes! Are you a monk?" Adriel praised him based on his abilities. "Nah, this level of martial arts is for defense only. I can barely even scratch up from my Japanese master." Arion slipped his mouth. "Japanese? Is that your race called?" Adriel got curious. "No, no. Ah..." He couldn't find the best excuse to hide away the fact he got reincarnated. "Forget it, just don't move there!" Setting aside their frivolous chatter, Arion took the stance of an unyielding fighter. This time he focused his defenses on his guts by doing a bicep curl protecting his anterior, resembles the strike stance of a boxer. However, the prodigy found himself in the endless white landscape of nothingness. As soon as the Field Boar gazed upon his eyes, his entire cognitive abilities were replaced within a vivid enclosed space where no one will be able to hear them. "Arion..." He thought he was dreaming, but he actually heard the Field Boar's gruff masculine voice speak to him. "W-Who are you...?!" For the first time, he stuttered because of the extreme pressure. His muscles even his Mechanical Exoskeleton instinctively strained itself without prior stimulation, which means he discerned the danger ahead of time. "Ahaha..." The boar gave a mocking laugh. "An intelligent entity such as yourself should know better, or you are that dumb?" "So, I could've guessed you are also reincarnated in this world? Who are you? The Arsmagus or the Knight Arcana?" Arion gritted his teeth. It's been a long time since he felt the sin of anger dwelling within his heart. He didn't care why the hell the time itself stopped and pretty much went with the flow. Because all he needed is the answer he must seek, while also preserving his survivability rate. "Oh, those two? They will be the next in line after I destroy this kingdom... once the chosen pillars die, that is." What he uttered is a complete mystery. It's not a matter of being smart or intelligent, and rather Arion had no idea what was going on anymore. "I have no idea what are you talking about, but no matter what you do, I won't let you bring down Althas!" Arion prepared his guard, ready to strike down his opponent. Later, the Field Boar laughed hysterically, gradually shapeshifting into an enormous beast resembling a nine-tailed fox. This beast's fur is glossy white, his claws were meant for pouncing in a cone shape and most of all, such aura depicts the idea of death itself. "I am one of the chosen hailing from Ancient Greece as the most skilled hunter surpassing the demi-god, Heracles... and I level up based on monsters that I devour, and I can also take their form." He is not kidding around. "Quite unexpected. But hear this, I shall not falter!" Arion feared him and yet he faced him head-on. "This nine-tailed fox is a mythical monster that can drain the mana of any mage... let us see if you can stand a chance!" He roared the terror of his voice and the time itself resumed once again. An ordeal bestowed by heaven, Arion promised to protect his companions even at the cost of his life, and he shall do it no matter what method he would resort to.
