Chapter 41: Simple Trick

1167 Words
The fact Hugh can't sense Arion's magic because he had no aptitudes in the field of magic wasn't enough to convince him that he truly had zero affinity of the elemental properties, thinking it's just an excuse for his weakness. Inside another room at the corner of the last lobby is where he guided Arion, the place had various training dummies, a clear space where a mage can freely cast magic, and an accuracy testing board to assess new mages in the Guild. "This is a quick test for you. If you failed, you are dropping as a failure, and if you succeed, then it proves your worth." Hugh was truly dead-serious and have no intention of backing out. The audiences are Welven and the rest of the Magisters. Everyone knew such a pointless and trifling problem can be solved without Arion retaking the assessment test, but they are also aware Hugh is such an obstinate and stubborn person who wouldn't let be swayed by mere words. "Hey Welven, now that I take a serious look at his Magical Origin... it's not like he's not giving off the aura of a mage, and more like it's empty." Fey is standing next to him frowning. "No, that should be impossible. All life, even little critters, and monsters have their Magical Origin or the source of mana itself. I found it ridiculous, but there's only one way to prove it out." Welven's quite interested in him, regarding where he really came from and the reason why his Magical Origin is empty. The term mana and the inborn ability of a person, living things, or objects are the same thing that had a Magical Origin. Where the flow of mana streams within a living being, where the current of life is infinite, giving birth to elemental magic spells and wonders. "Hmm..." Yulia's sighing deeply as her eyes were focused on Arion's arms. "Those armaments made out of alloys... aren't powered by magic. They were purely advance weaponry we have never seen before." Adriel was there listening to their conversation together with Lilith, Sarra, and Marget. She doesn't want them to investigate his glorious creations and preferred to hog all the knowledge she can squeeze from him. While Yuna is near the range of the magical barrier constructed to prevent the entire room from blowing up if things go south. "I know you can pass his test, Arion!" Adriel cheered for him. She doesn't want him to lose his privilege as a mage when he's literally just starting out. "Y-You can do it!" Lilith stuttered. Sarra was sweating because Hugh had already revoked countless mages who he deems incompetent. "I'll finish this and get out of here. So, what's the first test?" Arion prepared his mechanical arms and readied himself, keeping his body with the stance of a skilled martial artist. The way he takes the test as some sort of leisurely activity leaves bitterness at his side. Although confidence was what drives him, Hugh strongly considers he can display than what he can see on the outside. "This one's easy. You see that training dummy over there?" Hugh pointed out the three training dummies that were made out of wood and have a strange magical orb atop them. "I dare you to destroy three of them at once. And bear in mind that each training dummy will regenerate if you attack slowly." He also made clear that hitting the dummies one at a time means it's a failure. Things are set afoot, the test has now begun and the first move Arion did is to draw out the Elemental Crossbow he invented. Taking the stance of a bowman he always sees in movies, he extracted a portion of mana coming from the Infinite Core and imbued the element of wind to create an arrow made out of air. Arion has calculated the exact speed, velocity, and force it would take to visualize the perfect trajectory to hit all of the training dummies at once on the first try despite the fact only one of his eyes is working. Through the help of his Mechanical Exoskeleton that strengthens his grip and precision, he pulled his left arm and revealed at least three wind arrows ready for the blow. "I know this is a lame-ass name of skill but... Elemental Crossbow: Windshot!" The wind arrows flew faster than a bullet directly hitting the target. Though Arion's eyes widened when he only destroyed the left training dummy while the one in the middle and right are unarmed, an entirely different shield covers it to protect it from the wind arrows. "You saw that? He extracted the mana from his left eye without using Magical Origin." Welven whispered to Yulia. "I saw it. It's not a work of magic, instead, it is a work of alchemy of the sort." Yulia's seriousness is blatant, although she's quite unsure herself. "That's an advance test for Gold mages and above! Why would you prepare this trivial assessment?" Adriel had enough and decided not to be restricted by fear. Hugh stomped his feet on the ground and the entire place shook for a moment to make everyone silent. "No one dares to stop me. Just bear with it." He flickered his fingers and followed up. "The training dummies have a different elemental barrier and destroying the object will make the other immune to it. I parted this information because you're still a Bronze mage." Now Arion became more fired up since he can test his capabilities while proving he can be a proper mage without actually chanting magic. "Eh? Giving away the details like that in a test feels like I'm cheating, but don't mind if I do!" This time, Arion has yet again concentrated a considerable amount of mana on his left eye and he didn't just take his time creating armament inside Adriel's workshop, he also studied the way elemental attributes react to each other which means there is only one thing that comes to his mind; that is science and chemical reaction and the image of the table of elements displayed right before his very eyes. "What if a very compressed and compact form of fire is then mixed with the wind?" Arion grinned and began extracting further mana. "Huh? What are you talking about?" Hugh never believes in him. "For this simple trick, I call it... Elemental Crossbow: Enhanced Windshot!" Arion visualizes another set of three arrows. He pulled off the trigger zooming on the air and upon coming in contact with the training dummies, all of the objects including the wall to the other side exploded in a massive bang much stronger than a grenade. Everyone in that room was surprised to see the results of the first trial except for Yuna who already knows what he did is simply recreate a phenomenal explosion. "What? This is a cheap trick, why are you all gaping? I still have different arsenals up my sleeves!"
