Here it is,” Nanny's voice echoes out after a few minutes of searching. I felt my heart give way as it was stumped upon.
“What’s the prescription for?” Mark requested not taking his eyes off mine.
“Antidepressants and the other pivarubicin,” She calls out “Why is Nora on antidepressants and hiding it from you?” She inquires.
“Can you please check the pills inside and read out the inscription on them to me?” Mark replied
Sound of a popped cap is heard and pills “one has a C on it and the other has numbers on it.” She explains “I asked you a question, young man.”
“I will explain it to you when I get home, please take the prescriptions with you, thank you.” I responded in pain and hung up. Is this what betrayal and heartbreak feels like, I felt as if I was drowning.
“Buddy, look at me. You will be fine, we will run more tests to know the damage the drugs have done to your body. Hopefully it hasn't done extensive damage.” Mark said he picked up his phone to order for more tests with the blood drawn from me when I arrived.
We went out for some X-rays, MRI and full body check up. It took hours with other doctors helping out. While I allowed numbly, my mind was blank and heart hurting I could only stare at everyone numbly.
By 9 pm, they were through and I saw them going around with a medical ipad with my results on them discussing amongst themselves. Mark was with a particular doctor I don't know with a sad expression on his face.
“Thank you everyone,” Mark said to all of them as they all stepped out of the room I was seated in, leaving him with me.
“What are the damages, can it be cured?” I voiced out coldly, not taking my eyes off the white wall.
“Buddy, I'm very sorry but it can't be cured. You’ve been taking these pills for a very long time and the effects have become permanent.” He whispered bitterly
I swallowed heavily “What damage, Mark? I break down looking at him with tears falling down my cheeks. I fear for death, how will my family feel? Who will console my mom and sister? Will my father go back to managing the companies all by himself?
“You can't make your own child ever Alex, the drugs destroyed your ability to be a father for life buddy.” Mark said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
Before I could respond, I felt a vibration from my suit jacket taking out my phone. I saw my sister's smiley face. I picked up and her sweet voice sings out “You better visit me before you leave London twinnie,” she calls out making me burst into tears
“S..Sh…Sh…She……,” was all I could utter while I sobbed like a child in front of my brother in-law with my sister on the phone, I clutched the phone tightly to my ear as I sobbed uncontrollably.
“Where are you Lux?” She asked shakily
I felt the phone collected from me “He's with me baby,” Mark said
“I will bring him home now.” He said looking at me sadly, still rubbing his hand on my shoulder. He hangs up and pockets my phone
“Let's clean up and be on our way home, what do you say buddy?” He says after giving me a napkin.
After cleaning up, we stepped out of the room to his office where my bodyguards and assistants were looking at me in surprise.
“Is there a problem, Dr. Lewis?” Bastin my head bodyguard asked.
“All is fine Bastin, change of plan I will be sleeping over at my sister's tonight. Eric and co can return to the hotel.” I replied instead looking at my assistants while Mark went into his office to pack up.
We moved towards the underground parking space after he picked up his bag and joined us, as we say at the back of my Rolls Royce La Rose Noire Droptail while his maybach is driven by his driver behind us.
We arrived at Kensington Palace Gardens after forty five minutes drive with Mark not taking his eyes off me as I was deep in thought, why would she do something like this to me? We both wanted kids right? And why was my results always coming out as clean even when it wasn't? Were the doctors in my hospital also involved in this?
“What happened to him, honey?” I heard Lexi’s voice from beside me.
I noticed the door on my side was opened and my sister was looking at me with pain in her eyes.
“Talk to me Lux, I can feel your pain.” She said placing her hand on my cheek to wipe the tears I didn't know are escaping again. She had tears of her own running down her cheeks, I raised my palm to cup her face cleaning her tears
“Let's get him inside, dear,” I heard Nanny Estephania say from behind her. I stepped out of the car with my sister holding my hand as we walked inside her house, into her sitting room where I took my seat, removed my jacket and loosen my tie and my sister sat beside me with Nanny beside her while Mark stood in front of me. I looked at Mark hoping he understands that I can't talk about it.
“We found out Nora has been poisoning him,” Mark said quietly
“What do you mean by poisoning him?” Lexi shouted angrily, Nora has been her best friend since high school.
Mark explained everything to them while I just kept sobbing like a fool, the only sound that could be heard in the house ware my sobs.
“I’m going to ruin her.” Lexi shouted in tears as she held me “I promise you Lux, she would regret ever introducing herself to me in seventh grade.” Lexi whispered.
My parents heard about the news that night from Lexi and divorce letter was drafted the following day with my parents and lawyers present.
We stayed with my sister for three days trying to pull myself together.
We found out Liam and two other doctors from our hospital branch in Los Angeles were helping her, they were sacked and their license revoked before we went back to my place in BelAir to confront the woman I once cherished and loved.
Lexi went all Godzilla mode on her immediately she stepped her eyes on her while I just sat looking at her with hatred deep in my heart, Nora said it was because she wasn't ready to be a mother and she didn't want me to impregnate someone else that was why she switched my pills, we didn't tell her the damage done.
My parents forced her to sign the divorce papers and no legal implications will be taken which she did. She got a ten percent settlement, nothing else, no property just money and left with a smile on her face and me the damage she inflicted.
Since then, I've been known as the devil, the ruthless businessman, the heartbreaker, the player, the cold hearted bastard, never smiling guy and the monster in children's bedtime books. I grew my companies working non stop and crushing anyone who says No to me.
