Chapter Thirty-OneThe wide hallways outside the courtrooms were furnished with marble benches that ran the length of each wall; places where people gathered to wait for their cases, where witnesses who couldn't enter until called sat nervously, where lawyers got a last minute look at their files before hearings, or waited nervously while juries deliberated the fate of their clients and passed judgment on the results of two or three years of work. As soon as the jury began deliberations, Scott and Sarah joined John, Angie and Margo, all of whom waited outside.
