Chapter One: The God of War, Soren Haper
Nucus Airport, bustling.
Leaders from various districts and groups in Nucus, Bhtumland lined up in neat formations on both sides, waiting solemnly with a serious expression.
George Montgomery, the mayor of Nucus, was among them, his eyes fixed on the airplane door, eager to see.
This grand scene attracted countless onlookers.
"Hey, why are there so many leaders over there? What's with all the excitement?"
"You haven't seen the news? Mr. Haper is returning to Nucus! Today, all the leaders have gathered to welcome him."
"Really? Soren Haper is the youngest four-star general among the four major military regions. They say he's not even thirty yet! I can't believe I'll get to see him today. What a lucky day!"
But one passenger after another disembarked the plane, and even the flight crew came out, but there was no sign of the general, not even someone in military uniform.
The atmosphere gradually became awkward.
"Could we have missed him? Or did we get the wrong flight?"
Someone said.
The impressive welcoming team glanced at each other and saw helplessness in each other's eyes.
But they still didn't dare to leave.
In the crowd not far away, a young man with a resolute face and deep eyes silently watched it all.
Behind him, a burly man had just hung up the phone.
"Did you find out?"
Owen Mitchell asked.
"Sir, we found out! It... it was Miss Sullivan who leaked the news." The burly man showed great respect towards the young man before him.
Owen Mitchell's mouth twitched, revealing a hint of helplessness.
"Do we need to inform the media about this?"
Lucus Bennett asked.
"No need, let them be. If these people are willing to wait, let them wait."
"Alright." Lucus lowered his head, holding back a smile.
Miss Sullivan was probably the only one who could make Mr. Haper back down...
The two of them got into an ordinary Jeep.
The car left the airport and entered the city half an hour later.
It had been more than ten years since he last returned, and Nucus had undergone significant changes. Bhtumland's economy had prospered, and the once small town had transformed into a modern metropolis, with flourishing scenes everywhere.
But Owen couldn't feel happy when looking at these changes.
A few years ago, the border of Bhtumland was invaded, and he led Bhtumland's soldiers to fight bravely, ultimately achieving victory.
He thought he could rest for a while, but then came the news of Charles' death...
Charles Anderson, the second young master of the Anderson family, was Owen Mitchell's closest friend.
During a crucial battle a year ago, Charles took several bullets for Owen.
After that battle, Charles was permanently disabled and later retired to his hometown.
On the night before he left, the two of them drank and Charles Anderson showed him a photo. In the photo, a young girl was gently leaning against him, smiling brightly.
Charles smiled and said that he would marry her when he returned, and that no matter what, Owen had to come back for the wedding.
"Owen, this is the woman I love the most in my life. For her, I can give up everything..."
"Owen, I won't hide it from you! The main reason why I joined the army was to earn my grandmother's respect..."
"When I was a child, my grandmother despised me for being timid and weak, always inferior to my elder brother. In order to prove my bravery, I secretly signed up for the army without my family knowing, and later I finally achieved meritorious deeds..."
"I happily showed my military honors to my grandmother, hoping to make her happy as well. But I didn't expect her to slap me and scold me, asking what was the point of doing these meaningless things? She said that no matter how great I became, I would never be as good as Edward in her eyes!"
"Edward is my elder brother, the half-brother with the same father but different mother..."
"At that moment, I realized that my grandmother despised not my cowardice, but my background..."
"My mother's status was lowly, and in my grandmother's eyes, such a status could never stand out in the Anderson family... Owen, do you think some people are born with a mistake? Like me..."
"But I don't blame my grandmother, nor do I blame my elder brother. Even though my grandmother has never praised me, and my elder brother has never shown me a good face..."
"After all, they are the people closest to me in this world..."
This was the last time they met.
Several days after Charles left, he sent Owen a wedding invitation, with a photo inside of him and the beloved girl in a wedding dress.
On the back of the photo, a line was written, asking Owen to come no matter what.
Owen was ready to go.
However, just one day later, news of Charles Anderson's death suddenly arrived!
Charles was dead!
Owen was shocked and immediately sent people to inquire about the news.
According to the information obtained, Charles' eyes were gouged out, and the cause of death was unknown.
And the woman who was supposed to marry Charles, she seemed completely unaffected, and was even ready to marry Charles' brother, Edward Anderson!
For Charles' death, the Anderson family gave the reason that he coveted his sister-in-law's beauty, but when he couldn't obtain her, he got drunk and had a car accident, resulting in blindness and ultimately committed suicide out of shame and rage!
But, how could such a lame excuse deceive Owen?
Even though it had been almost a year since Charles’ death, Owen Mitchell still couldn't let go of it!
Returning this time, he was determined to uncover the truth and give his life and death brother justice!"Sir, Charles Anderson's older brother, Edward Anderson, is getting married in ten days. The Anderson family is very lively today," Lucus whispered.
"Is that so?"
Owen's gaze turned cold as he touched the jade ring on his index finger, a gift from Charles before he left.
"Since it's a grand wedding, I naturally have to pay a visit... to the Anderson family!"
...
As the head of the four major families in Nucus, the Anderson family had an overwhelming presence in the real estate industry in Nucus.
In terms of power and wealth, no other family in Nucus could compare.
Ten days later, it would be the day of Edward Anderson's grand wedding, a day of great joy for the whole city.
Starting from today, the Anderson family was bustling with activity.
"It's really lively!"
The jeep stopped in front of the most luxurious villa in the city center.
As soon as Owen and Lucus got out of the car, they saw four or five people gathered at the door of the Anderson family, hanging lanterns and putting up signs.
Inside the villa, bursts of laughter could be heard from time to time.
"Charles's body is not cold yet, but they are celebrating... " Owen's voice was calm, but a hint of coldness radiated from him, fierce and domineering!
"Sir, should I go and bring out the main people in charge of the Anderson family one by one for you to interrogate?" Lucus Bennett suggested in a low voice.
Owen shook his head lightly, "Lucus, do you know when people are most afraid?"
After thinking for a moment, Lucus replied, "When facing death?"
Owen narrowed his eyes, "No, it's when they want to die but can't!"
After saying that, he took the lead and walked towards the Anderson family!
Lucus followed, taking a deep breath.
It seems that the master intends to take action personally...
"What are you guys standing there for? Hurry up and give a hand. This is the signboard sent by the city mayor. Hang it up quickly!"
"Be careful, this lantern was personally selected by the old lady. If you break it, you're done for."
At the entrance of the villa, the Anderson family's butler, Franklin, was calmly directing his subordinates.
When he turned his head, he saw two people walking briskly towards the villa.
"Hey, what are you guys doing? This is the Anderson family, not the market." franklin took two steps forward and blocked Owen and Lucus.
"It's busy inside. If you break something casually, do you have the money to compensate? Get out of here!"
Seeing that they were dressed casually, Franklin was not polite in his speech.
"Insolent... "
Lucus glared at Franklin, about to make a move, but was stopped by Owen.
"I am Owen Mitchell, here to see an old friend at the Anderson family."
"Owen Mitchell? Never heard of you!" franklin andersondisdainfully glanced at him, "Get lost. With your countryside background, you can still have friends at the Anderson family? Are you crazy?"
Owen ignored him and walked straight inside.
And behind him, Lucus stepped forward, like a towering mountain, pressing in front of Franklin, making him unable to move.
"You should be grateful. Today, the master doesn't want to go on a killing spree."
After saying that, he turned around and followed Owen through the gate.
"You! Well, you dare to cause trouble at the Anderson family? Do you want to die?!"
Franklin was furious, chasing after them and scolding.
At this moment, a crisp voice sounded.
"Franklin, is everything ready outside? The dishes are all set, we can start the feast when grandmother comes out."
A young woman walked out of the villa, wearing a red knee-length skirt, with light makeup, looking dignified and beautiful.
"What... is going on?" Seeing the scene at the door, she was stunned.
"Madam, these two boys said they came to find someone at the Anderson family and wanted to force their way in!"
Franklin quickly ran up to the woman, slightly bowing and showing great respect.
"Is that so?" The woman looked at Owen Mitchell up and down, then shook her head lightly, "There's something going on at home these days, no visitors are allowed. Please leave!"
After saying that, she turned and walked inside.
"You are Isabella Campbelle?" Owen slowly spoke, his gaze like sharp knives, piercing the woman.
"Who are you?" Isabella turned around, feeling surprised.
Owen didn't answer, his gaze gradually turning cold.
The person in front of him was exactly the same as the one Charles Anderson showed him in the photo.
