Three months. One fake engagement. One ruthless billionaire. Falling in love was never part of the deal.

The last person Serena Bloom expects to find waiting in a luxury hotel penthouse is Luca Ferraro, the billionaire CEO about to acquire the company where she has spent two years building her career. But when her boss storms in accusing her of leaking confidential financial audits to Luca, Serena finds herself at the centre of a scandal she had nothing to do with.

Luca recognizes a setup when he sees one. He kisses Serena in front of the cameras and announces that she’s his girlfriend. But a girlfriend isn’t enough to convince the public their relationship is genuine, so Luca raises the stakes. Suddenly, Serena isn’t just his girlfriend. She’s his future wife.

Cold, calculating, and accustomed to getting what he wants, Luca Ferraro has no use for love. Serena Bloom may be sweet and shy, but she’s determined to build a life on her own terms and refuses to bend to a man simply because he has money and power. Neither is looking for love, but their fake engagement might just change that.

After losing her job, she finds herself working for the man she’s pretending to love and sharing a roof with the man who makes her pulse race as easily as he tests her patience.

Their arrangement has rules and an expiration date, but as their fake romance deepens, she begins to see the man behind his ruthless reputation, and Luca discovers that Serena has become far more than a convenient solution to his problems.

Just as their original three months draw to a close, an unexpected turn of events gives them a convenient excuse to extend the engagement for another three. Neither is ready to admit that the extra time is exactly what they secretly want.

When Serena’s disgraced former boss asks to meet and apologize for what he did to her, she has little reason to suspect a trap. But the meeting leaves her framed once again, this time for stealing Luca’s confidential acquisition files. And unlike before, there’s evidence against her.

Luca believes she has betrayed him, and no matter how desperately she insists she’s innocent, he refuses to listen. It breaks Serena’s heart that the man she trusted most is the one who condemns her when she needs his faith the most.

Determined to clear her name, Serena investigates the accusations herself, uncovers the scheme, and exposes the people who set her up. But by the time Luca discovers the truth, his mistrust may have cost him the woman he loves.

Luca must confront his fear of commitment and his mistrust, and the damage he caused by refusing to trust Serena.

Serena must decide whether she can trust him again after he abandoned her when she needed him most.

The Wrong Room
Serena “You have five seconds to explain why you’re in my suite, or I call security.” The voice cuts through the dark like a freshly honed blade. It’s low and unhurried, with a faint, velvet roll underneath that slides down the back of my neck and settles like a heavy hand. The temperature in the room plummets five degrees in an instant. My breath hitches. I’m frozen in the dark foyer, the keycard clutched tight in my fist. Someone is in my room. Panic surges, but survival instinct kicks in faster. My free hand drops, sweeping down the length of my silver gown and hitching up the silk so it won't trip me. My fingers find the ankle strap of my stiletto, snapping it loose with a single, desperate yank. I bring the shoe up in my grip, the narrow silver heel pointing outward as an improvised dagger, the only line of defense I have. If some psycho thinks I’m going down without a fight, he’s dead wrong. “Stay back,” I say, trying to project strength, though my voice cracks cleanly down the middle. “I mean it.” A beat of complete silence follows. Then, laced with a terrifying hint of amusement: “Four.” I don’t even see him move. One second there’s only dark, and the next, an iron grip closes around my wrist, snatching my arm mid-strike. The pressure is sharp enough that my fingers spring open, sending the heel tumbling to the floor, the metallic clatter echoing loudly through the quiet room. Before I can even register the pain, his free hand grabs my front shoulder and drives me straight back. My spine slams hard against the unyielding wall beside the door, rattling my ribs and knocking every last drop of air from my lungs. Before I can bounce off the plaster, he closes the distance completely, pinning me flat between the cold wall and the suffocating, solid heat of his chest. All the air leaves me in a rush, and before I can drag any back in, his hand leaves my shoulder and wraps around my throat. His palm is searingly hot and rough, his long fingers spanning the entire front of my neck as if it were sculpted specifically for his grip. His thumb settles directly over my pulse point and stays, feeling it stutter and race uncontrollably. Panic explodes in my chest, hot and blinding. My hands fly up instantly, my fingers scrambling frantically to pull at the vice around my neck. But my hands feel laughably tiny against his. His hand is enormous, calloused, and lined with thick, hard veins that pulse with terrifying power against my knuckles. I claw desperately at his wrist, but it’s like clawing at a steel cable wrapped in skin. He doesn’t budge an inch. “Three,” he murmurs, leaning in close enough that I feel the dark heat of his breath brush against my cheek. “I’m not...” The words come out as a raw, strangled thread of sound, my chest burning for oxygen. “I’m not a thief...” “Two.” “Room 1402!” I rasp. My trembling fingers force the plastic keycard up into the tight space between our bodies, holding it out like a white flag. A weak sliver of moonlight catches the metallic edge of the card, giving off a pale, golden sheen in the shadow right beneath his jaw. “I have the key,” I breathe, my chest heaving against his. “Look!” He stops counting. Slowly, the crushing pressure on my windpipe eases. He drops his hand from my throat, though he doesn’t step back. He stays hovering inches from me, his massive frame blocking out the dark room and trapping me in his suffocating heat. Air floods back into me, and I slide a few inches down the wall, my hand flying to my neck as I draw in a ragged, burning gulp of air. My skin stings where his fingers were, my throat throbbing, my entire body trembling from the sheer surge of adrenaline. It still feels like his fingers are there, a hot, phantom collar holding me in place. My head is spinning. The worst part is that I can’t tell how much of the tremor is terror, and how much is something far more dangerous. He reaches over my shoulder toward the wall. For a terrifying second, I flinch, thinking he’s reaching for me again, but his knuckles strike a switch, and light floods the foyer with warm amber luminescence. I blink rapidly, my pupils contracting as my vision adjusts to the sudden brightness. When my eyes finally focus on him, my breath catches all over again. He’s towering over me, six-two at the very least, forced to angle his head down just to look at me. Up close, under the lights, he is staggering, far more gorgeous in person than any camera could ever capture. His white dress shirt is unbuttoned at the throat, the sleeves shoved up to his elbows over forearms corded with muscle and thick veins. Dark hair is pushed back in artful ruin, as if he’s spent the night dragging his hands through it. His jawline is sharp enough to cut glass, framing a cruel, beautiful mouth. And his eyes. They are a deep, molten obsidian, framed by dark lashes, intense, calculating, and holding the flat, predatory patience of a man who has never once in his life been afraid. I know that face. Everyone in my industry does. It’s on the cover of every major business magazine. Luca Ferraro. The multi-billionaire CEO of Ferraro Capital. The corporate predator who has been quietly buying up Pendelton Media’s debt, piece by piece, until the company I’ve bled for is one signature away from being swallowed whole. As I stare up at him, his dark eyes track my gaze before dropping to the dark red flush blooming across my throat. For a fraction of a second, something unreadable flickers in the depths of his eyes, a flash of primal, possessive satisfaction that makes my blood run hot. He turns slightly and presses the card to the interior scanner panel. The lock beeps quietly. “A working keycard,” Luca murmurs. The low gravel of his voice drips with dark silk authority, cutting straight through the haze in my brain and dragging me out of my daze. When he turns back to face me, the cold suspicion in his expression has mutated into something far darker, heavy with a dangerous curiosity that makes my stomach plummet. He steps right back into my space, crowding me until his broad chest nearly brushes the silver silk of my gown. The sudden proximity hits me like a wave. His scent rolls over me, rich cedarwood, dark espresso, and expensive bourbon laced with the raw, addictive heat of his skin. It fills my lungs, thick and utterly intoxicating, making my head spin and my breath hitch in my throat. He raises the gold card between two long fingers, his gaze locking onto mine with ruthless intensity. “How did you get this?” “This is my suite,” I choke out, my brain trailing several steps behind reality under the intoxicating fog of his presence. “1402. It says so on the card.” “This is 1402. It’s the penthouse.” He slowly flips the card over, his sharp eyes never breaking contact. “It is my suite.” My gaze flickers past his broad shoulder, taking in the room for the very first time, and reality hits me like a splash of freezing water. The foyer alone expands into a cavernous, double-height living room anchored by floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the skyline. Italian marble stretches out beneath my bare feet, polished so fine it reflects the ambient light. A sprawling leather sofa, bespoke modern art hanging on dark wood-paneled walls, a private mahogany bar stocked with crystal decanters... A cold realization settles heavy in my stomach. There is absolutely no way this is my room. Pendelton Media is hemorrhaging money, standing on the absolute precipice of insolvency, and I am a junior analyst who spent her first six months fighting over cab receipts. Arthur would have booked me a broom closet by the ice machine before he ever put me up in a place like this. “The front desk must have made a mistake...” “The front desk doesn’t issue keys to this floor.” His voice drops into an eerie, quiet calm that is infinitely more terrifying than if he had shouted. “This is my private floor. The entire fourteenth level is leased exclusively under my name. You don’t just stumble into a penthouse suite with a programmed keycard.” He leans down, invading my personal space until I am entirely enveloped by his shadow and heat. “So I will ask you one more time: how did you get this?” “My boss’s assistant,” I stammer, my breath catching in my chest. His eyes narrow into tight, dangerous slits, weighing my breathless panic against the impossibility of a security breach in his private domain. My mind scrambles back through the blurred disaster of my evening, trying to make it make sense. Ten minutes ago, I was downstairs in the grand ballroom, suffocating in this silver dress while my boss, Arthur, paraded me from one corporate shark to another like a prized pony. He loves calling me his ‘brilliant little analyst’, code for the employee who works eighty hours a week so he can take all the credit and drink top-shelf scotch on the company tab. He’d handed me three glasses of champagne before his assistant slipped me this card, whispering that Room 1402 was reserved so I could catch twenty minutes of rest before our midnight panel. I’m not even staying at this hotel; I couldn’t afford a single night at the Grand Hyatt on my salary. “I’m not a thief,” I rasp, lifting my hands, palms open in a gesture of total surrender. “I’m here with my company for the event downstairs.” “What company?” Luca demands, his tone dropping an octave, heavy and unyielding. “Pendelton Media,” I whisper, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs under his suffocating scrutiny. “I’m... I’m a junior financial analyst. My name is Serena. Serena Bloom.” He stands impassive, his sharp features utterly still as his eyes dissect my face. He tracks the tremor in my lower lip, the quick, erratic rise and fall of my chest, the frantic pulse beating wildly in my throat. “An analyst for the very company I’m devouring, with a working keycard on the night before my company’s biggest corporate acquisition,” he says softly, his tone dropping into something lethal and terrifyingly intimate. Slowly, his hand comes up. The back of his knuckles grazes my jawline before his thumb catches my chin, tilting my face up to force my eyes into his. “That makes you either remarkably stupid, Serena... or an exceptionally dangerous little spy.” He leans in until his lips are brushed against the shell of my ear, his voice dropping to a whisper as his native tongue takes over. “Sei capitata nelle mani sbagliate, piccola. O forse in quelle giuste.” The language drips from his tongue, rough and smooth at once. I don't speak a word of Italian, but I know it when I hear it. I've watched Letters to Juliet four times and cried at the same scene every single time, but I’ve never heard the language sound like this. The low, dangerous cadence curls deep in my stomach and makes my knees go weak. Heat floods places that have no business responding right now. My body, the absolute traitor, leans fractionally toward him instead of pulling away, my breath hitching not from fear, but from the sudden, overwhelming pull of him. “I’m not a spy,” I manage to choke out, my voice shaking. “Mm.” Luca drawls softly, a ghost of a dark smirk touching his cruel lips. “That’s exactly what a proper spy would say. Nobody suspects a girl who looks like you of coming up here to do damage.” He thinks I'm gorgeous, the thought flashes wildly through my head before I can stop it. He thinks I'm a temptation. God, pull yourself together, Serena, I curse myself instantly, digging my nails into my palms. You are literally being held hostage against a wall by a corporate shark, and you're flustered because he thinks you're pretty? You i***t. His dark eyes lock onto mine with ruthless intensity, his thumb remaining firmly anchored on my chin. “Here is my theory, Serena.” The way my name rolls off his tongue, heavy, dark, and accented, makes a fresh shiver run straight down my spine. “Pendelton is losing everything, and it’s only a matter of time before I gut the company entirely,” he murmurs, his face inches from mine. “So your boss sends his gorgeous little analyst up here to plant a wire, steal files, or drag me into a scandal that stalls tomorrow's buyout in court. A pitiful attempt at revenge, if you ask me.” The floor feels like it tilts beneath my feet. “No!” I gasp, shaking my head as best I can within his grip. “No! That’s not... I didn’t know this was your room! I would never...” Before I can finish the sentence, the heavy electronic lock at the foyer door clicks loudly. The door swings wide open. A barrage of blinding white camera flashes detonates in the foyer, lighting up the hall like lightning strikes. Excited chatter and shouting journalists spill across the threshold, followed immediately by a familiar, booming voice. “There she is!” Arthur, my boss, steps into the foyer, flanked by hotel security and a crowd of eager paparazzi with lenses raised. He points a finger directly at me, his face twisted into a display of rehearsed, dramatic outrage. “I caught her!” Arthur yells to the press, his voice echoing off the high ceiling. “Serena Bloom! She’s been leaking internal financial audits from Pendelton Media for months, feeding our classified data directly to Ferraro!” The cameras flash furiously, catching me frozen against the wall with my shoes off, my hair messily pulled, and my silver dress disheveled. “She’s been having a secret affair with him!” Arthur continues, turning to the press as the shutters click in a rhythmic frenzy. “That’s how Ferraro Capital managed to undercut our market value and force us into bankruptcy! She sold us out to her lover!” The flashes keep coming, blinding and endless. I stand there pinned to the wall, one shoe missing, dark bruises blooming on my throat, and Luca’s hand still holding my jaw captive in full view of twenty news cameras. I look at the cameras, then up at the dangerous, unreadable face of the billionaire holding me, and realize with sickening clarity exactly what this picture looks like. Fuck.
