Chapter 1 - Who Are You? (1)
"You crazy b*tch! Get out of our house right now!"
On a cloudy night, in a room full of white, a girl with black hair opened her eyes.
Small beads of sweat wet her body while she was panting, searching for air.
Her throat closed up, and her lungs seemed to be on fire. Panic clawed at her chest as she struggled to breathe, the ECG machine beside her beeping with the frantic rhythm of her heart.
In a couple of minutes, a nurse opened her wards and checked on her. The nurse called the doctor who was in charge for that night.
"Miss? Miss? Can you hear me?"
The doctor tried to hold her body to calm her down.
Seeing no response from her, he looked at the nurse and told her to bring him a plastic bag.
He took the plastic bag from the nurse and put it in front of her mouth.
"Miss, listen to me. Control your breath first."
The girl seems to have heard the instructions.
"Good, good. Now follow me. Breathe in, breathe out."
She followed the instructions immediately and after five minutes, she finally could breathe again.
"Where.. am I?"
The girl asked the doctor after she calmed down.
"Miss Eva, you are taken to our Center Hospital after you got into an accident. Do you remember?"
Hearing the explanation from the doctor, Eva started to remember the thing that happened before.
She ran through the red light and a car hit her.
"Um.. I remember."
"Good. After the accident, you got a slight concussion in your head and a broken hand. As you can see, you have a cast on your left hand."
Eva felt weird in her left hand before, so that was because of the cast.
"The accident is not big but is not small either. After a week of stay, you can get discharged from the hospital."
All the hairs in Eva's body shivered when she realized what happened.
She was... Hospitalized.
Shit. That was bad!
Eva looked at the doctor with puppy eyes and said, "But doc, I can't leave my work and I will be fired if I'm absent through the whole week. Can I be discharged right now?"
"What? Right now?"
"Yes, can I?"
"No, you must stay for a week in case something arises after the accident.",
Eva violently shook her head and trembled, "No, no, no. I can't stay here. Please doc, I swear to come on time in all my appointments!'
"But..."
"Please..."
"Haah... Alright. But you have to sign some documents for you to leave."
"Thank you so much! I will sign it right now."
"But miss.. This is in the middle of the night, are you sure you want to get discharged right now?"
"Couldn't be more sure than this!"
"Okay then.. Nurse, please help this miss for the discharge."
The nurse brought a lot of documents for her to sign. She quickly signed the documents and prepared to leave.
"Alright miss. You can get discharged now. Please be careful on your way home."
With that, the nurse got out of her ward. Eva searched her phone and quickly dialed a number.
"Um.. Hello. Who is this?"
Hearing the hoarse sound from the phone, Eva answered, "Hey, Jane. It's me, Eva."
"Wait..." Jane opened her eyes and looked at her phone. It said 1 AM in the morning.
"Girl, it's 1 AM. Why the heck are you calling me?"
"Uuhh... Sorry to wake you up, but.. can you pick me up?"
Jane frowned, "Pick you up? What do you mean?"
"Um.. I'll tell you, but please pick me up at the Center Hospital?"
"What? Are you sick?"
"I can't talk much right now. I'll be waiting at the lobby alright?"
"Hey..."
Before Jane could ask for more, Eva hung up the phone.
Eva looked through her ward. She cautiously walked out of her room.
Before she could reach the door, a thunder sound startled her.
Her body trembled and her breathing got short.
"It's okay. It's okay. Calm down."
She tried to calm her down.
Surprisingly, nothing weird came after she got out of her room.
She walked through the nurse desk and saw two nurses including the one who helped her.
She walked to the lift. In a minute, the lift door opened. She got in and just before the door closed, a woman with red heels got in.
Eva didn't mind that and soon, the lift went down.
Eva suddenly felt cold. Eva looked up and she was still on the 5th floor.
That's weird.
Eva pushed the button to the first floor again and it didn't budge.
Her heart started to beat faster.
She looked at the weird woman beside her and finally took a notice beside her red shoes.
The woman's body was wet. Eva started to hear the sound of dropped water from her clothes. Suddenly Eva smelled something rotten, like a rotten body and in that moment, she knew exactly what happened!
Her heart pounded like a drumbeat in her chest, each throb echoing in her ears. Panic gnawed at her, a sharp, cold pain that seemed to freeze her blood.
She closed her eyes and ears. She chanted a prayer in her heart.
The air grew heavy and thick, filled with a sickly rotten scent that made her gag. She felt the woman's presence behind her, a cold, wet touch brushing against her hair.
"He......"
The eerie sound heard by Eva. The woman touch her hair as she screamed, "HELPP!!!"
Eva was afraid beyond anything and she replied back, "NO! NO! NO! GO AWAYYYY!!!!"
A hand touched her shoulder and Eva quickly screamed loudly.
"Oh my god! Miss.. are you okay?"
Eva heard that and she looked in the direction of the sound.
She found a security uncle looking at her, confused.
"I... I'm okay."
She looked around and found that the woman was already gone.
"You sure miss? You stand still inside the lift for quite some time."
Eva's face got pale.
