Chapter 8: The Simple Life

2215 Words
Genesis   I woke up to the warm sun shining through the window of my precious little home. It had been almost a month living in the pack and life was pretty basic. I woke up, showered, got dressed and ready for the day, made decaf coffee, made a small breakfast or sometimes I would eat with the pack, read for a couple of hours, attend a lecture over the internet, eat lunch, workout, work in the garden and attend to the front yard and then eat dinner either at home or at the packhouse. Sometimes I would nap. It was simple and I loved it. There wasn’t any drama. I was not being concerned with any pack affairs. Every now and then when I napped I would drift back to that time with my mystery man. It was always as if I was watching myself acting in a movie. It never felt real. I would wake up and have to masturbate to give myself relief. I always wondered who he was. Did he ever think of me? Did he ever search for me?   I checked in with my family a couple of times since I first arrived. I let them know that no one is mean to me here. Everything is just basic. They were all happy and relieved to hear it. I let them know my daily routine and that I was following what I had set out to do. Life was good and even better with my belly swelling with life. Until they informed me of what had been going on back home.   News of the Alpha I was intended to marry had been murdered. His Beta had narrowly escaped and the Gamma had his eyes ripped out and could no longer see my parents had exclaimed. I was shocked and gasped at the horror they had filled me in on. The pack Beta and Gamma went on about two very old vampires that had been researching our family and their primary focus was me. I was stunned. I couldn’t speak. I was petrified. What could vampires possibly want with me? I reassured them I was fine and was going to be hypervigilant from now on. They let me know they would be speaking with the council to see who the vampires are and what their motives are in seeking information about me. The call ended with ‘I love you’ between all of us. I hung up the phone and my overthinking got the better of me.   I couldn’t shake the information told to me by my parents. My attention immediately went to my stomach. Did it have something to do with my mystery man? Before I even had the chance to get up my doorbell rang interrupting my thoughts. I went into a full-blown panic mode. I was about to kick whoever’s ass was on the other side of the door. I was letting out a full-on growl. “WHO IS IT?!”   “It’s Esteban! Genesis! Are you okay?!” Esteban, the Gamma kicked open the door and I held true to my promise to myself and immediately attacked.   CRACK! THUD!   “OOouuf!” I knocked the wind out of Esteban and sent him flying into the couch horizontally. Then I focused on whoever else was coming in. Wolves kept coming and flying as if they all turned into mystical creatures. Moans and groans were coming from anyone that had approached me.   “STOP! NOW!” The Alpha roared. I stopped in mid-swing. He rushed over to me to look me over. “What happened? Who hurt you? Are you hurt? Genesis! Look at me and answer me! Are you hurt?” He cupped my chin to look into his eyes and I instantly felt safe. The Luna stepped in and hugged me out of the Alpha’s grasp.   “Oh, honey! Are you okay?” Her hands felt like a soothing lavender and chamomile hot tea coursing through my energy and I was instantly relaxed. “Tell us, Genesis. What is going on and why did you beat up half of our warriors?”   I looked around and twenty wolves including the Gamma were laid out on the floor and furniture. Esteban got up and rubbed the back of his neck and then broke his nose back into place. He smiled at me with blood rushing down. The Luna placed her hands on either side of his face to heal him instantly. The other warriors got up and got in line. I instantly felt foolish and guilt-stricken. “I am very sorry Alpha and Luna. I was on the phone a few minutes ago and received some news that only your ears should be hearing. Before I had a chance to come to the packhouse and request a meeting with you the doorbell rang and I thought I was in imminent danger and went into fight mode. I didn’t think. I’m so sorry. I didn’t….mean….to…” I broke out into sobs realizing what I had just done. I might have given away who I was to this pack. Sure the Alpha and Luna knew who I was, but no one else and I could have just blown it. I couldn’t stop crying.   “You’re okay Genesis. Hey little wolf, look at me.” The Alpha’s voice was gentle when he spoke to me. I looked up at him and he had a soft smile on his face and the Luna did too, but hers came with sad eyes. “You and your baby are safe okay? At least we know you can hold your own, but please don’t go rushing into danger and put your pup at risk okay? Now, chin up. Esteban is going to carry you to my office. Seeing the display here I would say we definitely have some things to discuss. You are not in trouble. I will have the carpenters come here and get things fixed for you to come home.” He looked up and all around my home and then back at Esteban and then me. “From now on until further notice Esteban is going to be your bodyguard.” I nodded. Esteban scooped me up like a bride and carried me to the office.   I got looks from everyone, but I didn’t care. I was scared and afraid for my baby. Once we got to the office Esteban put me down. He looked at me with a worried smile. “I’m sorry for …” He put his hand up to silence me.   “Don’t. Genesis, I’ve never seen someone so scared before in my life. You turned into a hurricane and were only protecting yourself and your baby. It’s understandable. I want to know how to help you and what on earth have you so damn spooked?” Esteban pulled me into a hug. He let me go to sit down. Lance arrived a moment later.   “My apologies everyone. My mate went into labor and ummm….well, we welcomed in a baby boy!” Lance had an ear-to-ear grin and was as prideful as a new father ought to be. My heart smiled. I was happy for him. We all gave him our congratulations. He took a seat.   “So, everyone we are meeting here because Genesis received some rather alarming news. What is about to be said in this office doesn’t leave anyone’s mouth. If any of you leak any of the information out it will be punishable by death because this is life-threatening to Genesis and her unborn child. Everyone understands?” The Alpha looked around the room. His Luna, Beta, and Gamma nodded in unison and understood. All eyes turned on me. “Gentlemen, please let me introduce you to Princess Persephone.” Lance and Esteban gave me a shocked look and both of their mouths dropped. “You know her as Genesis Williams and you can both close your mouths now. We will continue to treat her the same, speak to her the same and address her as Genesis. The rest of the world thinks she is dead. She has come to our pack for sanctuary. She wants to continue her studies and live in solitude during her pregnancy. Leaking this information out under any circumstances puts her, her baby, and your pack in danger.”   “I’m sorry if I’ve become a burden to you all. I didn’t mean to bring about any danger to any of you. I was on the phone with my family when they told me that the Alpha I was promised to was recently murdered. His Beta was able to save their Gamma. Their Gamma’s eyes had been ripped out and is now blind. I was told two very old vampires were looking up my family and focusing on me.” I started to cry. Everyone in the office started to growl in anger.   “No one and I mean no one is going to hurt you Genesis or your baby. No one is going to come close or they’ll DIE!” The Alpha’s voice boomed. I flinched at the tone of his voice.   Lance’s father instinct kicked in. “We will get the warriors ready as well as our artillery.”   Esteban’s demeanor towards me changed. “Your Highness, I will protect you with my life.” He kneeled and got down on his knees in front of me. I immediately backed up into the wall as they all did the same.   “No. No. No. Please don’t do that. I’m nobody. I’m just like you. I just want to live my life. I want to raise my child and get my Ph.D. Eventually, I will re-enter the court, but for now, I need everything to be stress-free. I want to continue training in martial arts. I want to be able to create art. I know it doesn’t sound becoming, but I found my mate prior to being introduced to the Alpha I was promised to. I had dodged my guards and left the castle for a few days and that’s when I met him. I was in California on the Central Coast when it happened. The problem is we don’t know who each other is. We, uh… never got to introductions or contact information. It just kind of happened. We mated and I …. Well, I snuck out of my room and ditched him. I flew back home and upon my arrival, I declared I wanted a different life, I didn’t want their Alpha they had chosen for me and later I discovered I was pregnant. At the same time so did my parents. The rest is kind of history.” Saying it aloud to these people I trusted made me feel ashamed and I looked down avoiding their stares.   “Thank you for enlightening us and telling us the truth. You shouldn’t feel shameful. You found your mate. That’s a great thing. The Goddess always pairs us up with someone she deems worthy. I’m just curious to know if you mated with one of these elder vampires. I mean it's all speculation at this point, but we shouldn’t dismiss it. Them looking you up was difficult to do which I’m sure flagged every known paranormal around including the Alpha that you were supposed to have married. You being announced as dead probably made him think you were murdered; therefore, would point him in the direction of whoever was looking into your family and your information. Elder vampires don’t kill at random so we can easily assume the Alpha was a prick and said something he shouldn’t have.” Esteban said with conviction and shrugged his shoulders. I looked wide-eyed. It never occurred to me that my mate was a different species of paranormal. A vampire?  “What do you think Alpha?”   “I think you may be onto something Esteban. Let’s do our own footwork by keeping our pack safe. Let’s put our feelers out there to see if any of our neighboring packs heard about the recent murder and what they are coming up with.” The Alpha sat down at his desk. “I’ll start making some calls. Esteban, my Luna, please make sure Genesis eats and then gets some much-needed rest. Have her checked out at the pack hospital just in case. Lance, we will send over a few of the Omegas to attend to you and your mate. Please let us know if you need anything else brother.” Lance nodded and left. The others escorted me out of the office. The Alpha was on the phone already with an allied pack.
