Chapter 1
"So if you are available, I'd gladly have you start tomorrow and you can pop in later today, just before closing time and Veronica here," pointing to the girl currently manning the bar, who looked over at me and smiled, "will show the ropes and how to get started before you come i tomorrow, just so you have an idea."
"Yes, that's perfect thank you. I was going we could make provisions. I know its early and I haven't started, but I'm a first year and I'll need some time off for exams, practicals and assignments, sir."
"Oh dear you can call me Sal and don't worry. We can definitely work around your timetable as long as you can give me ample time to prepare the roster. Rosters are done week before the month ends so that should you need a shift swap ahead of time, we can have that done before it officially goes up."
"Thank you so much si-, I mean Sal. What time do you need me to come in later? Is 4 okay?"
"Veronica, is 4 okay for you to work with Terra today?
"Yeah Sal. That will be good, it's rush hour and I'll definitely need the help. Just come in, grab an apron and get behind the counter."
And that was how I got my job at the Baron Barroks as a barista. A week after moving out from my orphanage. The only home I've known, I was brought there as a new born and never, year in-year out, got adopted, but I got over realizing that no onw would after my 10th birthday when I was the only child from the original kids at the home when I was young. I threw my energy into my school work with hopes of getting out of the city and living a life for myself that would be filled with all the things I loved.
It's been 2 weeks since I started working at the Baron Barroks and there's been this guy that comes in twice everyday, and I write Lenny on his drink. To prove just how much of a regular he is, Veronica, never waited for me to give her his order and started pulling on the levers to fill the cup, and pooped the lid and flashed him a smile as she placed the cup on the counter. He took his drink thanked us and headed to the same window seat I saw him go to everyday since I started working here. I've only ever spoken to him twice when he was outside of the shop, having problems with his car, when I was done with my shift and when the café had it's monthly super rush "Get Double For Less" Day, when he asked to buy me a drink and I had to decline, because I was still working my shift.
He is a student like me and we go to the same college, but are enrolled for different majors. Lenny Harris has lived here all his life and has a passion for studying the bloodline of nobility and the descendants of thrones thought to be lost. He's helped find 3 lost bloodlines to 3 different royal families and monarchs around the world and based his thesis for his studies on it and currently has the nobels of the Duraunt family looking for the only child their prince had out of wedlock as his wife was barren and they passed away tragically in a freak accident a week ago visiting an allied deity. He's late for his end of day cup today by 10 minutes ( don't ask me why I'm counting, I don't know either, but he is late) and walks in the shop looking panicked and a little disorientated as he makes his way to me to place his order, which I've already done.
"Two Hazelnut, double shot cappuccinos please, foam, not froth please Terra."
He opened his wallet and paid for his order cash as I wrote "Lenny +1" on his cup and had Veronica pour up his order. He didn't even wait to ask how my day was or to get his change as Veronica placed the orders on the counter, he took them and walked out without another word as I watched him pass the cups to someone inside the car before opening the driver's side door, getting in and driving off. I helped Veronica clean and lock up as I had drama session after shift today and she offered to drop me off at the theatre on her way home.
I walked into the theatre and slid into the usual seats for the performing arts students, we took up rows "So, if you are available, I'd gladly have you start tomorrow and you can pop in later today, just before closing time and Veronica here," pointing to the girl currently manning the bar, who looked over at me and smiled, "will show the ropes and how to get started before you come I tomorrow, just so you have an idea."

I walked into the theatre and slid into the usual seats for the performing arts students, we took up rows 2-7 on the center set of seats and the directors, writers, designers etc., took up the first row and the grips and stage assistance took up the rows behind us or like today's case were already on stage for the briefing we had before each session and run through. Alex, our director stood up to address us, with his mic already attached and ready for our session. We started with the distribution of the new scripts and had to go through monologues so we could audition for the roles and start sorting out the costumes that will be needed as well as the measurements for the ones that still need to be made. Our play is already scheduled to be performed in 8 months and considering this is an original screenplay, we need every second for possible changes that the writer may want to see done in the play.
