Twisted (Book 1)

The morning was quiet just like every other, I could hear the birds chirping outside my window, pulling the covers over my head, and tucking my knees to my chest to try to get more sleep. I had stayed up fairly late working on an art piece that was due to the palace later in the afternoon. Just as I was beginning to drift back to sleep I felt this sudden weight on me, letting out a grunt as the blanket was ripped off "sissyyyyy wake uppppp" my little brother Ace sang. I smiled and wrapped my arms around him "Come here you!" I said as I began tickling him. Ace was only 5, he had the same snow white hair as me but his eyes were an icy blue, unlike my magenta eyes he got his from our Mother where I got mine from our Father Ace squealed and giggled "Stopppp lemmmeee goooo! Genesis lemme goooo!" He thrashed and giggled while I tickled him mercilessly. Just as I was about to let him go our Mother burst into the room, her icy blue eyes wide like she had just seen something truly horrid and her normally tan skin was pale as snow. "what's the matter mother? You look like you've seen a ghost." It was difficult to keep myself calm, witnessing how terrified she looked, her tall slender frame moved towards us as she scooped Ace into her arms "We need to get to the safe house, they've penetrated the wall. There's not much time your Father and his men are being sent to the forefront to hold them off." Our father was the strongest magic welder in the kingdom aside from the Royal family, it's what gave us such a high standing and him the Title of Grand Duke. We had been staying in our home inside of the walls instead of the usual country house with our land and village, the Kingdom of Galor was proving to be nothing in comparison to its neighbor Talon. The last safe place was inside the palace walls and now those had been penetrated. "Just grab what you need Genesis, and meet us outside post haste" and with that she walked out of my room, I heard her footsteps fade down the stairs as I got up and threw some clothes and paints into a bag along with my hair brush. I could smell smoke as I walked down the stairs tying my wavy white hair into a loose braid, something felt wrong as I made my way towards the wooden oak door, I heard a scream come from the otherside; causing me to bolt towards the door however when I grabbed the handle it was hot to the touch making me wince and let out a yelp of pain. Moving back from the door grasping my hand that was writhing in pain, the feeling of dread started to sink in more. I could hear the sound of crackling and the smell of smoke grew louder, now I understood what was happening they were setting the buildings on fire! The only way out would be to crash through the window, and risk being cut; which was definitely a better alternative to burning alive. "C'mon Gen you can do this" I whispered to myself while staring at the window towards the back of our house, before running full speed and flinging myself through it using my arms to cover my face. The sound of the shattering glass filled the air, I didn't stop running however my arms and legs were cut but my face was fine I rushed towards the front of our home. The sound of men talking and laughing made me halt in my tracks I could also hear faint raspy breathing, mixed with sobs "look at the way her burnt body writhes" one man chuckled, and my heart completely dropped into my stomach; as I heard the other man say "Yeah just a shame the kid didn't scream nearly as much." I wanted to puke these men were disgusting how could they talk about other living beings like that? The air around me went ice cold once the realization of whom it was the men were talking about. No it can't be.. Gods please, please don't let it be them, please don't let me be right, I peeked the corner being careful as to not let them see me. There was tall and slender enough to be my Mother's, her arms were wrapped around another burnt figure, and I knew it was Ace by the patches of white hair left on his head. "These were meant to be the strongest family in this kingdom? what a joke no wonder they've been so easy to run through." The man's words made my blood boil I could feel the air around me begin to chill, as ice slowly crept up my arms I let out a scream rounding the corner and running full speed towards the men. My arm was covered in a thick layer of ice that came to a point at the end of my hands, I caught one of the men from behind shoving my arm through his chest aiming right where I knew his heart was. Ace and Mother didn't have any powers of course they were weak compared to these guys, the man's blood dripped down my arm as his body went lifeless, I pulled my arm out kicking his back to hasten the action. "You're next" I said smirking at the other man, he was much taller than me, he was muscular and had a scar above his left eye which was brown his other eye was covered by a patch, no hair but a full beard and he was wearing armor. Unlike his partner who was wearing a robe "You f*****g b***h, you killed my magic user!" his voice was gruff as he spat the words out "Now I'm gonna kill you nice and slow, make sure to fully avenge him." his words made chills run down my spine, but I kept my composure "you can try but something tells me, you're useless without your little buddy." He smirked while drawing his sword, I shifted the ice around my arm into a pair of twin swords "You're wrong he was paired with me to keep me on a chain, fuckin dumbass." I scoffed and rolled my eyes "like I give a s**t" Walking towards him calmly if I'm going to beat this guy I have to knock him down, I learned everything I knew from my Father. I wanted to be part of the guard when I was little but women weren't allowed to. The man raised his sword and widened his stance, little did he know my swords were just for show, I grinned at him as a trail of ice led from me to him holding his feet in place, slowly creeping up his calf. I wanted him to suffer the way they made my Mother and little brother suffer, I wanted him to beg me for his life before I completely shelled him in ice. "What the hell is this?" he grunted trying to break his feet from the ice, "You can do more than just make objects with your ice?!" he looked shocked; although it wasn't surprising the only other person in our kingdom who could do this was the King. My grin grew wider "see you had it all wrong, I'm the one getting revenge, and you're going to be the one suffering a slow and painful death." The ice had crept up to his neck "Hey now we can talk about this, why don't you just let me go, I'll never hurt anyone again I swear!" his voice was trembling from the cold and fear. "Hmm you promise?" I asked tilting my head "YES,YES IS PROMISE! LET ME GO!" He yelled with a trembling voice, my smile faded into a pout"aww too bad I can't trust you." Turning on my heels to face away from him I walked away leaving him a frozen statue. I finally let the grief hit me as I reached an alleyway, falling to my knees covering my mouth to muffle the sobs that escaped.
