“Your animal form is a domesticated dog?” I raise my eyebrows, turning to look Luke in the face. “Your parents must have loved that.” He turns away. “It is. I’m pretty sure they’ve never forgiven me.” I lay my hand on his cheek, turning him back to me. “There’s nothing to forgive. You get to choose your path. Your career. You get to shape your life. It’s terrible that they tried to control how you shape your literal body.” He lowers his eyelids, and when he raises them, tortured vulnerability haunts the warm brown depths.
