Chapter 3

1070 Words
It was my first day of college. I was so nervous that I was sweating like a pig. I was planning on waking up at around six thirty in the morning, but my plan went in the gutter when I drank caffeine. The thing was, we three got along so well that we drank coffee around five times. I had to literally drag Sarah from bed to the washroom so that she'd wake up. God, she was one heavy girl! I was running extremely late for my first lecture when my mother chose to call me from India at that very moment. So, as a result, I was almost running around my campus trying to figure out the way towards my class. I was holding my books in one hand and my cell phone in the other hand. "Haan maa! I informed uncle that I arrived safely. He is planning on coming to pick me up on Friday to throw me a welcome party." "By the way, your brother wants to talk to you." Now, you should know one thing about me. I hate my brother but unfortunately, I also love him. People who have siblings will get this. It is the story of every house. Doesn't matter whether you live in India or in the UK. You pretty much fight on a daily basis. To top that off, my dear brother was not there when I was leaving India. He didn't even call me! He had some nerve trying to talk to me. But unfortunately, before I could decline the offer, the phone was handed over to my brother already. "Hi, fatso! How are you?" I heard a manly voice say. In response, I said, "Kutta! Main tujhe ek din maarne w ali hun. How dare you talk to me!?" "Why? What did I do?" Now I was really mad. "Oh! Sorry, sir. I should apologize because I am mad at you." I continued sarcastically, "It was so wrong of me to expect my brother's company on my way to the airport! I am so sorry!" We started fighting like crazy. Well, at least I did. He just continued laughing! What a jerk... While cussing at him in Hindi, I was trying to put my flick behind my hair. Bit failed miserably. I hated long hair. But since mother liked it, I kept it long. But they were truly a hassle. I was running, yelling and trying to get comfortable all at once. So I decided to hang up the phone saying I was getting late and would call them back later. I was busy as I was trying to handle all my stuff when I heard Scott yell, "Hey, Avani!" I turn around and saw the most good looking guy I had ever seen looking back at me. No, it was not Scott. He was probably his friend. They both were wearing our college jersey. I remembered Scott telling me that he was on the rugby team. I found it really cool as my school did not have many sports because of space limitation. "Hi!" I replied. "You are going to be at the party tonight right?" Scott asked, to which I simply shrugged, "Sure. Is it at eight? I will be there." I smiled as I watched Scott making a happy face. With this said, I went on my way and began to worry whether I would be able to reach on time or not. I had chosen Psychology as my major. Thankfully, I reached the class just in nick of time and was grateful for my sprinting skills. The lecture began and I became engrossed in my studies. Later during lunch, I located Sarah sitting with a few people. When she saw me, she waved frantically motioning me to come over. I went and sat beside her and that's when I saw that, that same person who was with Scott a while ago was there. God should not allow such humans to exist! In an attempt of not getting caught, I diverted my eyes and started talking with Sarah. She introduced me to everyone. "Guys this is Avani. And she is from India." she continued, "This is Samantha, Victor, Theodore-" "Do NOT call me that!" I saw the same guy saying that with fuming eyes. To this, Sarah only laughed and made more fun of his name. "And you know Scott." We had our lunch while we talked and then headed towards our classes. I was about to enter my class when I felt someone grabbing my arm. I turned around and saw Theodore looking at me. "Hey. Do you need something?" I asked. "No. I just wanted to ask what language were you speaking earlier?" he asked. "Excuse me?" "You know, when you were going to your class in the morning... at that time, you were attending a call right? What language was it?" "Oh! That! That was Hindi. Why what's wrong?" "Nothing really. Thanks, see you at the party." With this said, he left me there standing and wondering how can someone's voice be SO good. I mean, god should be fair by at least giving such handsome people a croaky voice. I shrugged mentally telling myself to not fall for him. Because even if I do, I won't stand a chance. Plus, my intention of coming here was not this. It was to study really well and get a job so that get independent as quickly as possible. As the day, came to an end I went into my dorm room where I found Sarah searching something in MY closet. "What are you doing?" I asked trying to grab her attention. Without looking back, she said, "I am looking for an outfit that will not make you look like a complete nerd. But I am failing miserably. You have literally nothing good to wear." "Um... thanks?" "Shut up! Urghh! It seems that you, my dear friend need some help." After around two hours she finally decided on what I should wear. My black jeans and a yellow Top. Whereas, she decided to wear a dress. How did these girls have the courage to wear dresses in such a cold weather? We put on our overcoat and decided to leave. When we went out of the building, we found Scott and Victor waiting for us. We exchanged greetings and left for our little rendezvous.
