3. Unexpected Visitor

1143 Words
I only slept for 2hrs which for me is a long stretch of sleep. I decided to do some servailence and retrieve some food since everyone that left took most of it. My Wolf was restless the entire time, but I only saw humans. Not a single pack member nor any Rogues. 'What is your problem sage?' I asked her internally. The only response I recived was some crazy feeling of wanting to shift and wag her tail around crazy. She buzzed with intense excitement and I became wary. What's worse the closer we got to the Den, the worse it got. I texted the others and hadn't recived a response. Then I smelled it. The forest. I have given up on finding my mate, but it was the only assumption I could come up with. The only thing I wanted to know though was how and who? Was it a rogue that wandered apon my scent? A pack member from a nearby pack? I had given up on the idea of a Mate years ago. I'm not mate material really. I've been through too much. I've seen too much. I'm always watching my back and I'm sure my past will catch up with me. I'm just not going to drag someone who was 'fated' to me, through all that. So I prepared myself. I'm going to see my mate. I'm going to reject them and we will both move on from it. Sage snarled at me. She wanted her mate. 'Sage we will reject them.' I ordered. 'If they are my mate I want them.' she said stubbornly. 'Well once they see who we are and what we have done they will not want us. Might as well save all the extra bullshit and get it over with.' she turned tail at me. My Wolf had some issues but we have almost always been on the same page. So to not have her backing me felt strange. I shook of the feeling setting myself in determination to just handle this like I handle everything else. As I approached the den I noticed a black SUV in front. This is not good. Before I went further I took a turn moving out of sight. I pulled put my phone and dialed Evan. It went straight to voicemail. "Shit." I cussed to myself. Alright pull it together. Time to do my thing. I lifted myself high and began walking again. This time with purpose. When I got to the door an armed man stood in front of the door. Despite the heat he wore a black suit and by the tags in his left ear I now know why I'm not being answered. This is the Royal gaurd. The scent that came from inside drew me in but I fought it. I gave the gaurd a hard look. "I'm Katerina, this is where I'm staying. Let me in." the gaurd said nothing and ignored me. Sage had grown impatient and I let her fury show behind my eyes. "Move." I said in a low threatening tone. He looked at me and his eyes glassed over I could tell he was mind linking. Something I haven't done in thirteen years. Without waiting for him to receive a response from the inside I took matters into my own hands. I grabbed the first thing I noticed on him, his pistol. Shoving him out of my way c*****g it and pointing it at his head. Finally he put his hands up surrendering. "Could have just moved." I told him as opened the door taking the weapon with me. What I found inside I didn't know how to handle. The last thing I had expected was to see the Alpha king sitting at the table with the others sitting awkwardly. Then the world stopped. I'm walking through a forest. Everything is green and the sun peaks through in places. The sent hits me and it's like when the forest gets thicker. The coolness coming through the heavy air. I realize the Alpha king stood also seeming to realize what is happening. "Go to your rooms." I ordered to the others in the room, before anyone could notice what was conspiring between us. "Kat, I think-" "I said go Evan." I interrupted. They each left the room hesitantly wanting to protect me. Only I didn't need protecting. I can handle myself just fine. We stood in silence for a moment before I walked over to the table and put the pistol down, still loaded but pointing away from the King. "Why are you here?" I broke the silence. I couldn't tell what he was thinking but he was quiet so maybe he's deep in thought. He seemed to realize I was waiting for an answer and snapped out of his daze. "I came here looking for you actually." I raised an eyebrow at him expectantly. "I wanted to hire you." I looked to see if he is seirious. If I were not so in control of my expressions my jaw would have hit the floor. "But now I can see I was drawn here for other reasons." A small smile graced his lips and curiosity shown in his eyes. "I think you'll find you only came here to hire me." I decided to take a seat and prop my hands on the table waiting. "No. I'm not looking to hire now. You are coming back with me." He approached me and I stood back up defensive. "I'm not going anywhere with you." my voice is low. He stopped taking in my defensive form. His head turned to the side in question. "Don't you feel it?" yes I do feel it. Like invisible strings encouraging me to get closer. No way I'd tell him that though. "I'm not sure what you are talking about, your highness. Respectfully if you are not going to hire me, leave." His presence made me uncomfortable yet comfortable all at once. I wanted the rejection. His face grew angry and he took several steps to me. It took everything not to back up and cower beneath his gaze. Instead I held his gaze and stood rooted. "Being stubborn and rude will not get you far with me. Possibly locked beneath my bed, if you aren't careful." I didn't ask what he meant by that. "You are coming with us." "Wether I want to or not." I stated dryly. He looked angrier. "You are lucky pup. You can bring the others. Pack your things. We leave for the palace now." with that he turned and walked out after picking up the weapon left on the table. 'Well that was terrifying.' I thought. 'Its your own fault! What are you thinking!?' I ignored her rolling my eyes. I went and got the others ready for the trip.
