Anabelle
“So you are saying there are other witches living here in this forest?” I asked her as we walked through the rocks by the side of the river. I was extra careful not to slip and fall. My pregnancy mattered more than anything to me.
“I told you we were banished into the forest, did I not? Everyone had no choice but to build their family here and use our magic to protect ourselves. I just built my place away from them a little bit because I love the peace and quietness”, Martha said. Despite being old, she was more graceful on the rocks than I was. It showed that she had crossed it countless times.
We kept walking for five minutes before stopping at a waterfall. I was amazed to see a waterfall here because I never thought there was one.
“We are here” Martha said.
“Here? but there's no one here…” I was saying when the words jammed in my mouth. The waterfall had cleared up and a beautiful village was revealed. These were like Martha's cottage house, clustered together. There were about 25 houses and in each house were families doing their thing. Children played around, the smell of cooking serenaded the air and magic spells being casted could be seen almost everywhere. It was just like a wolf pack except it was for witches.
“Welcome to the Witches hallow” Martha said with a proud smile. I knew it was well deserved because it was not easy to survive so many years in such a harsh forest. There were a strong kind, probably in match with the wolves in my books and they deserved to be treat fairly too.
“Wow!” I said while still looking around. No one would be able to see this place until the witches wanted them to see it, it was how they were able to sustain themselves for so many years. I for one had been in the forest for weeks and I never saw a trace of them.
“Old Martha, who is she? Why did you bring a stranger here when you are quite aware of the dangers of leaking out our location” A man came up to us and asked with a frown. His complaints brought the attention of the other witches and a crowd slowly started to form. They all looked at me with sharp gazes as if I was the enemy and they couldn't wait to attack, I couldn't even blame them, leaving in such a place does that to you.
“She smells like a wolf too. Old Martha, this is too careless, even for you” another witch said. The crowd began to grumble at each other, I felt weird that they were discussing about me while I was in front of them.
“Calm down everybody, I'm not fool. This girl here, her name is Anabelle and she's one of us. She's the daughter of Late Alpha king Eric and Luna Unna” Martha explained.
Shocking gasps ran across the crowd, almost all of them looked at me with shocked faces, the glare that they had on before disappearing without a trace.
“How are you sure she not an imposter? For all we know she's supposed to be dead” the first man asked. He was still giving me the nasty eye, I could already tell that he didn't like me.
“Frank, I was one of the founders of this place so I know how hard we struggled to survive here. I won't bring anyone to ruin it” Martha persisted. I felt warm at heart that she was defending me even when she actually just knew me yesterday.
“But she is still a half wolf and that man is her uncle, what if…”
“I'm sorry to cut in but there's no what if, that man is dead to me and no longer my uncle” I said with my voice not wavering in the slightest. I mean what I said with all of my being. All the while that he and his wife maltreated me, I kept quiet and endured because he was still family but taking my parents from me… that was last straw. My Wolf and I have been itching to go back and sink my teeth into his neck ever since the truth was revealed, but I restrained myself because it wasn't logical. My main priority was the unborn baby in my womb and my second priority was to take my revenge of my uncle. I didn't care if it took days or years, he was going to pay no matter what.
My reply shut the man called ‘Frank’ up but I could still see his distrusting eyes, I was forced to look away because I didn't know what to do about it again.
“You have heard from the horse's mouth. If you're still in doubt then I am willing to take responsibility for any repercussions that may arise from letting her join us” Martha said and a red small light came out from her mouth to which she captured in a tiny bag. Her actions caused an uproar from the crowd, I couldn't understand what was going on so I took advantage of my heightened werewolf hearing abilities to pick out their discussions.
“Oh no, she made a witch swear. One of the ten most powerful spells”
“A witch swear? I have never heard of that before…”
“It's also one of the ancient spells and you are still learning, so it's understandable that you don't know of it. It is said that whatever statement is sealed by the spell carries grievous punishment that can even mean death. No one can survive the spell, absolutely no one”
“What was old Martha thinking when she casted such a spell? To put such trust on this half-wolf girl is crazy”
…
I looked at the old woman with side eyes, why would she cast such a spell? She only knew me as her best friend's child who she last saw as a baby. I was an adult now and a completely different person, myself I don't even put this much trust in me.
Or was there something she wasn't telling me?
