Chapter 11

1039 Words
Anabelle “Okay, I can do this… I can do this” I said before taking a deep breath. Just like Old Martha said, magic was within me, if only I could pull it out. It's been a week since Martha saved my life from that dreadful feral wolf and introduced me to the witches hallow. My wounds are almost healed, all thanks to the old woman's healing potion. Today was my first day of training and I was quite excited. I had never thought I could be a witch. If someone had told me this a month ago, I would have laughed hard. But here I was, training to wake my witchside. I wasn't the only one training, but I was the oldest. Of course, there was an older group where the real training took place but despite my begging, Martha insisted I start with the bare basics and that included training with the children. “The secret of magic lies within you, it involves your creativity, how well you can imagine and bring to life. Now I want you to relax and focus your magic into the pebble below you and lift it up” The young female witch instructor had said. She demonstrated by tapping lightly on a pebble and it suddenly raised itself in the air. The children, myself included, exclaimed “Wow” to see such a sight. “Go on, it's your turn” she had also urged, with a friendly smile. That was where I was, trying to summon the magic within me and it was a lot harder than I thought. Five whole hours had passed but nothing happened. I was tired, angry and seriously beginning to think that I wasn't a witch. “How are you doing my dear?” I heard Martha walking up to us, me and the instructor. The instructor, Lydia, was also quite patient and nice to me but even with her lot of encouragement, I still couldn't help but feel frustrated and weak. “Martha, thank the goddess that you are here. I don't think I'm a witch, you must have made a mistake”, I complained to her bitterly. The children who were learning with me had all brought out their magic in two or three hours, but I haven't even seen a spark. I was frustrated and sad. My mood now compared to when I started was like two opposite poles. Martha smiled and said “Relax, remember you are not a full witch, so don't compare yourself to others. I believe in you because you are Unna's daughter” she caressed my cheeks lovingly before nodding at me to continue. One look into the woman's eyes, I could see the unwavering trust she had for me. I didn't understand what she meant by Unna's daughter but I was warmed by her encouragement so I decided to give it another try… one last try. I sat back down in front of the pebble with crossed legs and I closed my eyes with only the pebble on my mind. I put away even distractions and worries that burdened my heart. My mate, my pregnancy, my uncle, my parents, even witches… I let go of everything and just thought of the pebble. I heard some noisy feet walking by, I thought they were just passing but they just stopped and began talking to each other. “Look at her, a little half witch wants to feel among, how ridiculous” a familiar male voice said, it was frank, the guy that was against me from earlier today. “I still don't trust her, she thinks being a witch is as easy as turning into a rabid dog that eats raw meat all day” another added and the others laughed. “My eyes are on her, any slight mistake she makes, council would be on her in seconds”, Frank said. “What about old Martha's swear?” someone asked. “I don't care, she has only herself to blame for trusting a wolf so she should be ready to accept the consequences. She's old anyway, she can die for all I care”, Frank answered, and the others laughed again. I was livid! My body was trembling in anger and something inside of me was ignited. How dare he? I wasn't even angry about what they said about me, I was used to being mocked by people in my pack, so that wasn't even a big deal. What I was angry about was that they roped in old Martha as well. That woman was the sweetest and nicest person I have ever met. She was like a mother I never had so for them to have the guts to mock her, I wanted to… I opened my eyes and quickly located where the group was standing. It was quite far away from me, I could only hear them because of my heightened werewolf abilities. But Martha was completely oblivious to it. “Frankkkk!!!” I yelled to get his attention. He turned to look at me with irritation in his eyes, “What?” he asked with a curt tone. “Watch out” was the only thing I said after that before about ten pebbles were raised up from the ground and flew towards the group with speed. They didn't expect such an attack from me so they were caught off guard. They were seconds too late from blocking it so the pebbles hit them one by one in the face. Each of them winced and screamed while I looked at my hands in surprise. I could feel the magic pulsing in them compared to before, the power had a full tingling sensation that felt like everything was possible as long as you could imagine it. My wolf purred within me as well. She could feel the changes going on in my body. I had successfully unlocked my witch powers. I felt truly happy. Martha was right. Everyone that saw what happened was shocked, all except Martha. She just had a knowing smile on her lips as she said, “This is truly Unna's daughter, no doubt at all”
