“No Mads, you came home.” Byron’s words tight yet full of relief, he clung to Madison holding her so close that nothing could pass between then. Worried she might just disappear once more, he could not bring himself to release her. Minutes passing quickly, Madison eventually became quite uncomfortable as she pulled away to sit down. Reluctantly lifting her slightly, Byron placed Madison back on the edge of the bed. Watching her intensely, so many questions formed in his head. it was hard to navigate, what should he say, what should he ask first? “How are you feeling?” Waiting a little while with no response, Byron added softly. “You have been out for a while?”
Eye’s slightly burning with the lights shooting down, Madison looked around the room before settling her eyes back on Byron. Her heart still racing from her nightmare and then her new surroundings, Madison took the few moments to centre herself. Her body lighter than it had been in years, she stood from the bed as she combed through her most recent memories. Everything blurred and vague, one face remained clear in her mind. Flopping back on the edge of the bed. “Darius.” The name rolling off her tongue with ease, Madison could not quite recall what happened to the young boy. Her heart and mind sure she was supposed to protect him, a panic set in in not knowing what happened.
“Who’s Darius?” Bryon’s voice projecting louder then he intended it to, he knew the darkness filling his chest was jealously. Was he who she had been with all this time?
Madison’s head nodding her soft quite voice sounded. “yes, Darius… was there a little boy. A little wolf with me? Is he here? Is he okay?”
Her questions shooting out one after the other, Byron was caught off guard by her line of questioning as he took a moment to let what she was asking sink in. Immediately happy that it was a child and not a man, another question swiftly popped into his mind as his assumptions ran wild. “Mads you came by yourself… we searched the surrounding woods and the direction you came from for miles. There was nothing, there is nothing.”
Byron’s answer making Madison worry even more so, she considered the possibility that she left him behind. Thinking harder as he asked her another question, she cursed herself inwardly as a pain developed in her mind.
Swallowing hard, Byron asked unable to stop himself, “Is Darius your… child?” Forcing the last word out, Byron’s chest clenched awaiting a response. Madison had been gone a long time, obviously many things had transpired in that time, and not all pleasant. Processing the words in her mind Madison almost choked pulling her hands from Byron’s covering her mouth. His body instantly beside her, Byron placed an arm around her, slowly rubbing her back soothingly.
Trying to stop the coughing fit, Madison failed as it led to dry reaching. Leaning into Byron’s body, Madison’s diaphragm violently lurched on repeat as she attempted to breath.
The door bursting open, a male doctor rushed forward to Madison’s side as Byron spoke. Unable to catch what Byron was saying, the doctor reached for Madison causing panic to flood her body. Being an unfamiliar male Madison all but cowered into Byron’s body as her throat made a horrific noise that frightened even Byron sending him closer still.
The doctor freezing in place at Madison’s reaction to his presence and attempted touch, he slowly backed up as Byron completely surround her with his arms while pulling her onto his lap. “Okay, it’s okay. Shhhh Mads it’s just me, breathe… just breathe for me.” The coughing slowly subsiding, Byron rocked back and forth as he nodded his head at the door indicating for the doctor to leave.
All but scrambling for the door, the doctor rushed out informing his Alpha’s and their mother immediately of Madison’s awakening. Not a minute later bodies of all three rushed in breathless not stopping for a second as they piled into the room pulling the door close behind them. The doctor looking at the door amazed at just how quickly everyone arrived, he did not dare enter or go near the entrance.
Concerned already about the fear Madison displayed from him, he would be content to keep his position in the medical centre at the current rate. Never before had he ever felt so on edge concerning a patient. Previous to her showing up, as one of the younger physicians, he had yet to meet the family of the Alpha’s. He had heard their sister died, but had been much loved. The whole pack was shaken when she ran, and then again when it was reported she died. Watching the door, he sat on the bench outside in case he was needed while contemplating who could have made such an error.
Her room suddenly extremely full of comforting and familiar scents, the sensation was overwhelming her now very clear senses. Experiencing fear for the first time in a long while undulled, it brought back so many memories from the beginning. The start was the worst, the hardest part. The drugs she took the only things that made it manageable, and forgettable. Realizing already that she had many blank spots in her memory, the reminder of Darius was blow.
The pills being her go to for years now, it was odd that the thought of taking something to help was almost nauseating. The fear slightly dissipating by the protection of Byron’s body surrounding her and the new scents, Madison took a deep breaths trying to calm herself. Pulling ever so slowly out from Byron’s chest, Madison eyes slowly turned peering out to meet the familiar scent of her family.
Bright blue eyes reflecting her own burning through her. The three sets grew closer by the second, it was almost like a dream. The dreams she had at the beginning, the dreams she had every night when they came to rescue her from the hell that was her life.
